I heard Paul say (I think on the creepy q/a part of the memory almost full site) that the band went on tour and only played the 11 songs they knew. This makes no sense from a touring musician's point of view. When you are on the road, you have time to "talk-through" songs in the bus, plus you have soundchecks and motel rooms. What's weird to me is that John lennon said on his live toronto album "we're going to play the songs we know." That makes sense because John was fronting an all-star backup band for one show.
I I am thinking maybe faul lacked the experience of playing in hamburg, and this is a reflection of that? Regarding early touring, faul also tells a story of the van slipping off the road, but they got a ride from a truck? What happened to the equipment? And how did they get Mal and the others into one truck? If they road in the back, wouldn't that have been part of the story since it was winter?
