I know that this has probably been mentioned in passing in various Memory Almost Full threads, but I think this song, much like House of Wax, deserves its own thread.
I had my iTunes on shuffle and this song came up. I'm not particularly crazy about it, and I was about to skip it, but I was doing some summer cleaning at the time and was pretty much barricaded in by boxes, so I just let it go. I think it's the first time I ever really paid a whole lot of attention to the lyrics and they struck me, collectively, as something that might be important to us here at NIR.
I'm usually kind of shy about posting things like this, because my analyses sometimes may seem a bit TOO suspicious, but this really stuck out to me and I'm interested in what you lovely people have to say about it. The stuff next to it is just possible stuff that I thought of when listening to it and then reading the lyrics.
Here are the lyrics (I looked them up and they sound right to me, but let me know if they aren't!):
Teacher said
I had my head in the clouds
They directed (told him what to do as a replacement for JPM, as a director might do)
I suspected
Disconnected (broken up and without Paul, in need of a new Paul to keep them together and popular)
Had it my way (Faul got the part of Paul)
On the street
I had my feet on the ground
Stood corrected
Well protected (anyone on the inside was able to protect him from being outed for not being JPM)
Resurrected (well, obviously, back from the dead.)
Had it my way (again, he got to play Paul)
I've got my feet in the clouds (kind of shady on this one, but maybe it's a reference to Heaven?)
Got my head on the ground (maybe Paul being buried)
I know that I'm not a square
As long as they're not around (because Paul was no longer around and Faul took his place, he instantly became famous and popular and 'not a square')
But I find it very very very very very very hard
Yes I find it very very very very very very hard (I think maybe this parallels the title of Memory Almost Full as in maybe Faul is finding it more and more difficult as he gets even older to keep in this secret and continue to falsely play the part of Paul? I would imagine it'd have to get to him eventually, right?)
Love is fab (Fab is such an odd choice of words here, so I am thinking it could reference the Fab Four, no?)
It's like a stab in the the heart (a stab in the heart would probably kill, so that could be a PID reference. Alternatively, maybe it is talking about how painful it is for him to have to continue to play this part, I don't know.)
Hidden treasure
Made to measure (I don't really have much to say about this, other than that it made me think of Paul's measurements and height and all that versus that of Faul.)
For my pleasure
Had it my way
I've got my feet in the clouds
Got my head on the ground
I know that I'm not a square
As long as they're not around
And I find it very very very very very very hard
And I find it very very very very very very hard
Oh I find it very very very very very very hard
Yes I find it very very very very very very hard
I've got my feet in the clouds
Got my head on the ground
I know that I'm not a square
As long as they're not around
But I find it so hard I find it so hard
I don't know, just some ideas. I'd love to hear what y'all have to say about it.
