Ok that seems quite possible but i was under the impression that the beatles had very little to do with yellow sub and it was all down to some crazed guy.
The beatles were contracted with ....... to make 3 films 1 was AHDN next was Help! but they never did another one with paul, they did MMT which didn't count, then yellow sub, that wasn't counted either, which is why they did Get Back or Let it Be which it eventually became known as.
Sorry I may have gone slightly off topic but it gives me an excuse to post and perhaps show off a little!

Hmm I'm pretty sure Yellow Sub fulfilled their contract for a third movie, and yes they were happy to allow their music and likenesses to be used, because they saw it as an easy way out of the contract. (so the legend goes) The story continues to say that they turned their noses up at any involvement whatsoever, but as the project progressed, they became interested in increasing degrees, with the end result the cameo.
But anyway, there may be holes in this story, because they were quite interested in doing a western at one point after Help!. (before Sept 1966..)
Seems like there were two Pauls here, someone found it an interesting idea? Doesn't mean it has to be The Beatles themselves.

Another famous YS clue is the sequence where 'Paul' is missing, then appears after a big car crash, to the sound of applause. Then he's handed a bouquet of flowers following his 'performance'. Apparently at least a few people who worked on the movie knew the story.
