The famous Dec. 8, 1970 Rolling Stone Jann Wenner-Charlie Brill interview is back in the news for some reason. I this the entire interview? There are two different versions in print. If you read the interview, you will find that it seems like every other page Mr. Brill is saying "I don't remember." Audio excerpts played on this do not appear in either of the interview's print versions ! John Lennon: The Wenner Tapes By: stîpwar on: 06.07.2007 [08:37 ] (104 reads) By coincidence, the John Lennon interview I referred to a few days ago popped up this morning on BBC radio 4. The Vietnam War certainly wasn't over in 1970 when this interview was recorded, but Lennons song of the same name would surely have an influence over next couple of years. Thanks to technology we all now take for granted, the interview is now available on the www - sw (527 bytes) [c] Friday 6 July 2007 9:00-9:45 (Radio 4 FM) An in-depth portrait of John Lennon, told through the audio of Jann Wenner's seminal 1970 New York interview with Lennon for Rolling Stone magazine. Lennon chronicles the Beatles' career and split with painstakingly emotional detail, and holds forth throughout on the subjects of art and politics, his own musical genius, his love for Yoko, drugs, primal therapy and mysticism. www.bbc.co.uk/go/radio4/rhnav/choice/sat/t1/-/radio/aod/radio4_aod.shtml?radio4/wenner_tapes

Oh PLEASE!!! I have met Charlie Brill while working as stage crew on several Star trek conentions. He really is a nice guy, but hardly a method actor, certainly not to the extent that would be required to be a full time stand in replacement for anybody. many of the characters he has played including Arne Darvin are performed very similarly. He runs the full gamut of emotions from A to Aardvark. he has since retired to selling autograph pictures from an acting gig he did for 8 days over 40 years ago. as was teh habit, after the show is done for the day, the crew and the guest stars would hang at the hotel bar till last call. I got to meet many actors, old and young; hacks and thespians. the good, the bad and especially the ugly. (many older actors dont realize that they aren't the 20something hotty they were during the LBJ era.)

Did Charlie ever mention meeting the Beatles in NYC and Miami, or why he had extensive plastic surgery to become a freakish double of John Lennon?

Hi all. Secondlifer is my hubby. I have been trying for YEARS to get him to participate here. He has led a very interesting life, and I believe that he has alot to contribute. About Mr. Brill, my husband did concede that it's possible that he stood in for John for short periods of time. He would be capable of doing that. There is most definitely a strong resemblance between Mr. Brill & John in 1967. I don't know how he got the gig to impersonate John. The Trouble With Tribbles was aired 12/29/67. Paul had been "gone" for over a year by then. I believe that John had a meltdown after what happened to Paul & they had to scramble to find someone who could be used for personal appearances & such. If what beatlies has theorized is true & The Beatles were being used from the very beginning, maybe someone up high noticed that Mr. Brill resembled John when they all did the Sullivan gig together. When it was decided that they needed someone to fill in for John, they might've approached Mr. Brill with an offer that he couldn't refuse. Since he wasn't that well known, or sought out as an actor, he might've been thrilled to get the work. This is all IMHO of course.

And maybe Mr. Brill never stood in for John Lennon.
This Charjohn Brillennon thing is pure speculation, right?

Jarv, most definitely. My husband, who has actually met Mr. Brill & actually had drinks with the man ( Mr. Brill favors Gin & Tonic ), is far from convinced that Mr. Brill had anything to do with any of this. ;D

There is a lot to absorb in these threads, both in pictorial and text information.

Naah, I wasnt doing an interview or playing superspy. Just tippin a few back with him and a few of the autograph whores at the hotel bar. Charlie mentioned following the Beatles on Sullivan, but dint seem especially bittter about it like some people say. He and Mitzy are one of those rare hollywood couples that have been together forever and will probably stay like that. they are just shy of joined at the hip. Mitzy credits their relative mediocrity for this. He has the same height and basic build as John, and might pass as a stuntman (tho Charlie isn't a certified fallguy) or with a bit of makeup he could be a double, but I truly doubt he could do the replacement gig suggested. He could play a good bookkeeper, diamond merchant, nazi hunter, or software engineer, mostly with his same actual personality. John-the-hyperactive-mad- genius-with-a-sketchbook-Lennon, Doubtful.

However, the opening scene of "How I Won The War" is not actually John Lennon but SOMEBODY doubling as him. "Something" came up and John had to be elsewhere...corpse finding perhaps (look at the timeline)...but the film schedule had to continue...if you look at that opening shot John looks a little "different", don't you think?
But was it Charlie Brill? I don't know.

Are the "Tribbles" themselves an allusion towards the Beatles mop top wigs? And at the same time word play on the double/triple thing? The Trouble with Doubles, the Trouble with Tribbles.

Remember that William Campbell was in this episode t(w)oo, and William Schallert who starred in the Patty Duke Show ("identical cousins").

The Trouble with Doubles, the Trouble with Tribbles. Heh that's pretty clever. The Double With Triples. In 1952 Robert Heinlein published a novel about a family that buys a spaceship and goes for a tour of the solar system. While on Mars they acquire a "flatcat," who makes a soft, soothing vibration. They discover that this Martian kitty was born pregnant, and her children are born pregnant, and soon the family is knee-deep in purring Martian flatcats. The cats get into everything and eat all of their supplies. Sound familiar? The novel is called The Rolling Stones. -j

Tri-Bills? The Trouble with Beatles? Did the Fob Fylan song "Like a Rolling Stone" and/or the Rolling Stones (which came first?) take their name from that story? Heinlein also wrote a book, cited by TotalInformation in the Doris Day thread, called Double Star, about dopplgangers.

Amazing. "Like A Rolling Stone" came out after the Stones had become known in the US. I suspect Dylan used that title as a PWR clue. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rolling_Stones_discography UK Studio Albums The Rolling Stones April 16, 1964 UK #1 (51 wks) Decca Records US Studio Albums England's Newest Hitmakers May 30, 1964 US #11 (35 wks) Gold London Records en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Like_a_Rolling_Stone"Like a Rolling Stone is a song by Bob Dylan from his album Highway 61 Revisited. First issued in 1965...." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rolling_Stones"Founding: 1960-1962 Keith Richards and Mick Jagger were classmates at Dartford Maypole County Primary School. In 1960, the two became reacquainted while Richards was attending the Sidcup Art College and Jagger was a student at the London School of Economics. With mutual friend Dick Taylor (later of Pretty Things), they formed the band Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys. Stones founders Brian Jones and pianist Ian Stewart were also active in the nascent London R & B scene; Jones played with the Ramrods and Blues Inc., a band that featured Jagger, Richards and future Stones drummer Charlie Watts. In June 1962 the Stones lineup was Jagger, Richards, Stewart, Jones, Taylor, and drummer Tony Chapman. Taylor left the group, which renamed itself The Rolling Stones, after a Muddy Waters song."
