I know that this has been discussed before. An odd thing happened within the past few days. My husband found this album in both cassette format & in CD format. I played the CD last night. I was listening to Brain Damage & chills went down my spine. That song has always left an impression on me. I believe that album has clues on it concerning Paul's death. Others have stated certain clues that I don't agree with. I do know that Bill/Faul was interviewed concerning the bit before Great Gig in the Sky concerning Death. They found that his thoughts on the subject weren't interesting enough to put on their album.
’and I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, i Don’t mind. why should I be frightened of dying? There’s no reason for it, you’ve gotta go sometime.’ ’i never said I was frightened of dying.’
Brain Damage (Waters) 3:50
The lunatic is on the grass. The lunatic is on the grass. Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs. Got to keep the loonies on the path.
The lunatic is in the hall. The lunatics are in my hall. The paper holds their folded faces to the floor And every day the paper boy brings more.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon And if there is no room upon the hill And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
The lunatic is in my head. The lunatic is in my head You raise the blade, you make the change You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane. You lock the door And throw away the key There's someone in my head but it's not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear You shout and no one seems to hear. And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
"I can't think of anything to say except... I think it's marvelous! HaHaHa!"

The lunatic is on the grass. The lunatic is on the grass. The Fool On The Hill? Remembering the many good times with Paul and the gang? Maybe keep the loonies on the path means simply keeping the Beatles going... Lennon trying to let everyone know of this tragedy but noone picks up on it. The changing music of the Beatles.

That last part about the band playing different, or "not quite right" reminds me of George's It's Only a Northern Song.... It makes sense....how many know/knew about this game of death/replacements?

I've seen the "lunatic" lines interpreted to mean that JPM is still alive, but mentally ill and in a hospital.
There's also this possible reference:
"Find me in my field of grass, Mother Nature's son, Swaying daisies sing a lazy song For everyone"
"The lunatic is on the grass. The lunatic is on the grass. Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs. Got to keep the loonies on the path. "
"The clouds will be a daisy chain So let me see you smile again Dear Prudence ..."

There's also this possible reference: "Find me in my field of grass, Mother Nature's son, Swaying daisies sing a lazy song For everyone" "The lunatic is on the grass. The lunatic is on the grass. Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs. Got to keep the loonies on the path. " "The clouds will be a daisy chain So let me see you smile again Dear Prudence ..." Suggesting that they found James Paul in a mentally snapped condition, and why announce he's dead if he's alive? If it wasn't true, of course they didn't report it. Duh. But he'd have been immediately sedated, and put under observation, waiting to see if and when he'd recover. Maybe he was treated in France by french specialist, say at Louis Pasteur or one of the others. Hence the sudden, unpublicized convergence in Paris by the others. Like John leaving the shoot---kind of odd, really. Sure directors can make allowances and change shoot schedules, but they usually don't. Seems to me that if John needed a break, he'd have gone to England. But its like Neil had to come get him, to interrupt things suddenly. How often did this happen? And why Paris? And yet, "Paul" and Mal go to Africa in around October, just after his work on "Love in the Open Air"----though Geo Martin continues to work on the orchestrations........ Paul seems not the least but concerned or involved with that project--mentions of it our scarce, etc, yet subsequent works (from 1967 on) are frequently expounded. But that would make sense IF........ "Paul's" (William's) appearance becomes more and more Paul-like as time goes on---as if the realization is coming on--"This is not over yet-----we better keep honing the look." And Paul remains under supervision perhaps? For quite some time? Yet John sneaks in (or did he?) the "I buried Paul" bit into SFF; and Ringo appears to mouth "Brian's dead--and so is Paul" in MMT during "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling". (near the end of the song, right before he crosses his eyes and throws his head back.) Both messages"Paul is dead." If they was not true, then these messages were NOT intended for the public to catch. Leading to----the clues were put in for a select audience. Well, why tell that someone is dead, and target it specifically for people who would pick up on the message, i.e., intelligence personal of OTHER countries....... You would spoon feed dis-info to an adversary in order to spych I mean psych them out of harming that person, as if you felt there was an adversarial threat to the person from this covert enemy. And when the public asks what you were doing, you have to deny it, and you are telling the truth in a way, because it doesn't behoove the public to know, and the message WAS NEVER MEANT FOR THE PUBLIC IN THE FIRST PLACE. And this is why the Beatles have always maintained the air of plausible denial, in the style of military intelligence tactics, because that was the way to keep unwanted public curiosity out of the situation. The only interest is in clues is for the effect they have on the "adversary." That is probably the biggest security issue of all. As far as the public reaction and bust-out in 1969, it was a secondary operation put into effect to quell overt questioning. Once the spill happenned, it was largely a matter of diverting and reframing the story and the components of it (as shown in the media) in order to allow thereal work of the covert part to go on without distortion. That the reports and claims of what occured got distorted I do not doubt, and it follows logically that most of the distortions and exagerations of PID were born from the improvisations of crisis control! So, after four decades, the compensational accounting of who, what, which, when, and how have multiplied into the spider's matrix. One wonders wryly if they have progressed to using software to keep track of the "working scenario!" If Apple Corps uses it and Apple Computers designed it, lol, they could code name it "Apples." To keep it distinct from "Oranges" I guess. It is not a happy thought----to consider James Paul as suffering mental or emotional limitations. But I suspect that many people today are challenged to a greater or lesser degree in this area. Time and treatment can help, though sadly, we know not always. Certainly Paul would have been having the best, most cutting edge, care that money can buy during this time. And thank God he would not have had to deal with a cruelk and insensitive public, or even undue fascination and interference. Even people who mean well can be a problem in this kind of thing. Also, remember the theoretical "adversary"? Hopefully, they were kept at bay, apprehended, or at least frustrated. And who would have been the main one to make this good thing possible? Paul McCartney, of course. All of this just a little more suppositions. But if I were Perry Mason, judging from the length of this post, the jury would have already fallen asleep.

luvleerita, it seems that quite a few people knew about it & felt that it was wrong. I'm sure that other musical groups who knew the boys personally also put clues in their songs. For them, it was personal !
Doc, that is very well thought out. However, I feel that if Paul was in a compromised state for a time, he eventually died. I don't think that Paul lived past the 1960's.

Well.. ya know.. Perry never had to make a closing argument; (there may have been one or two exceptions) he of course solved the mystery before the closing credits. He was a Mason after all..

However, I feel that if Paul was in a compromised state for a time, he eventually died. I don't think that Paul lived past the 1960's.Well, you may be right. Again, we simply don't have concrete indicators on any of this. Plenty of "hints" or small "tells", which are by their nature, subjective things. My gut feeling I continue to have, when I log on and look every night, (see how I flagrantly admit it) is that someone died, and someone else is alive. ? Aside from Sir Paul, of whom we can find 874,239 photos from at least 1966. So we know from that time photographically about his evolution etc. I intuit that there is another "Paul", an unseen vocal replacement, and then James Paul. I "feel" that one of them remains alive today. One of them has passed on. I know this makes little sense; and it's all I can explain about my gut feelings. It feels like one person is being memorialized (discreetly), and another is more or less living in seclusion. And then there is Faul out there big as life in your face plastered in every magazine and on the telly nearly every day. Not to mention every time I walk in any kind of retail outlet that has piped in music in the PA, (notice I did not say "Musak")I am treated to either "Let it Be" "Listen to What the Man Said", or "Jet" or even "Helen Wheels", which is nearly always followed up by that prating shill for Columbia Records, Billy Joel, belting out "She's Got a Way" , "Only the Good Die Young", "Pressure", "Allentown", or "My Life". And I would not want it any other way.

Heh, the supermarket downtown.. it's gotten so I wonder which Bill song will be playing when I walk in. No joke, and OK, not each and every time I admit, but it's enough to be sorta freaky.. Talk about wide influence, he's already a policeman, fireman, weatherman, musician, singer, songwriter, actor, producer, mogul, and activist. The only thing he hasn't done yet (to my knowledge) as a celebrity is "The Hollywood Squares", and I'm confident that day is coming. Paul Lynde watch out. Hey, Paul could be "the secret square!" But hey, wouldn't an all british rocker week be cool on that show? Lessee, we need nine: David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart Elton John, Mick Jagger w/ Keith Richards, Ringo Starr Annie Lenox, Cliff Richard, Pete Townshend Peter Noone, Peter Gabriel, so many more...... Or, how about a "all replacement" edition one week? Only stars and celebs who have been, hehe, alledgedly (according to to some researchers here) been supplanted by look-a-likes? Doris Day, BB King, Macca Sylvie, Mia Farrow, Faye Dunawaywith, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, and Courtney Cox Arquette I am picturing it in my mind. [3 minutes passes like an eternity as DocRob's expression goes from bemused ponderment to a flat, detached stare. He begins to yawn.] Ho, I'm back. Sounds pretty dull, OK. Well! Moving on. No offence to those nine people, most of whom are vastly interesting all by themselves. But sadly, the "Hollywood Squares" is better left alone in one's memory, esp, the original series. Jojo, what in the ehther could influence the Musak selection? Isn't it pre-ordained? Can mysterious influences come into play? ( I may have to pose this question to Jan---his area, really, of discernment.] I seem to remember this quote from Macca in Russia, "It isn't going to rain. I know these things." ! He should write another book, "How to Win Friends and Influence Everything."

I too have wondered about "Vocal" Faul, one that is not Bill, and definitely not JPM. And where is he today? Good question....if there was indeed any vocal "stand ins" what becomes of them when the charade is over? Or at least when his tenure of "replacing" is over?
Is there some mad scientist responsible for this...someone who came up with the idea to replace James Paul Mc Cartney, and was doing some strange experiment by taking Paul prospects and using them as "Fauls"?
This does sound like something on Bad Sci Fi Theatre shown in the middle of the night on some obscure network, but one wonders if there is some isolated island, some undisclosed location, perhaps some sort of secret camp/prison where perspective Fauls who were surgically altered, or psychologically brainwashed, but didn't fully "transform". Perhaps somewhere in the process they didn't fully become the Faul they planned so they are this strange creature living in a guarded place. Perhaps not just for Faul's but other celebrity transformations/replacements that didn't quite work out. Maybe even a place where "dud" celebrities are sent, and the general public are told these people died. Perhaps these famous people who have all died from lung cancer not so long ago, but around the same time.....
Yes, just another one of those wild ideas flung out there. Not trying to detract from things that have been documented or presented with visible proof of it's existence. Just a theory, strange and unusual yes, but this adds to the legend surrounding this PID/PWR setting. Because as big as this entire thing is, yet buried under by information agents/spin doctors and their garbage, we add to the mystique about this.
We contribute things that we are serious about, and we contribute far fetched things just to add a little spice. Perhaps we get carried away with the ridiculous, but we have been disturbed by what our eyes have seen and ears have heard. I think it's such a heavy subject that once in a while we need to allow some escapism with some bizarre ideas.
Why do we need this escapism? Perhaps we are all looking for what's on the "dark side of the moon"..so to speak. We have seen the part of the moon that faces us, but what is on the other side?
We see a group that captivated us, we listened to their music. We saw an "image" of this band. We were given a "product" and took it as we saw it and as it was presented to us. What was on the dark side of this band? The image we first had of the Beatles were lovable mop tops. But what lurked behind them? The mystery of JPM's death, his replacement, the remaining Beatles...the people associated with the Beatles are so fascinating to us. Or else we wouldn't be here discussing these things. Now if it be as fans, or just those who are intrigued by it all, we are interested in the dark side that has been hidden from us.
We are curious creatures trying to make sense of it all and hoping this charade would be concluded at some future date.
We know that all things hidden will one day be revealed...they always do.
I enjoy threads that causes us to pause and think about things that have occurred and have been pointed out by other posts. It's not just sitting while one person feeds us information, we all bring something to the table, no matter how short, or how long it is. We all have something to say and am glad there's a place where we can bring them.
Whether someone responds to it or not, isn't the point, but just having the place to communicate what one is feeling or thinking, or wanting to share, it's something I hope that we continue to have the ability to do.
There may be a day when the opportunity to have a forum may be shut down. We will lose the ability to communicate. So we should make the most of the time we have.
Life is very short, and there's no time for fussing and fighting....
We need to ask the questions and give our ideas/evidence.
I have to wonder whether the musicians of that time felt a pressure on themselves since this happened to one famous musician, and possibly many others, it could happen to them? Not only the pressure of writing music, recording it, and that it is marketable...but trying to be part of some sinister plot to subvert the youth...did deep inside many of these artists end up drug induced lives or alcoholics...that either ruined their careers or end their lives....
How many have been destroyed by that system?
Many of those people had tragic childhoods, many have experienced traumatic things in their youth that led them into music...and fame...and untimely deaths....
Maybe the dark side of the moon is the place where these souls end up...so to speak. Not literally, but metaphorically. A place where we would like them to escape to and get away from the entrapments of rock and roll fame, fortune and fallout....

Well, luvleerita, as surely as you are a student of perplexed-ology, of which I am flattered and amazed, though frightened for you as well, I really enjoyed your concept of the musicians meeting on "the Far Side". We do it here every night...... Like the "Island of Broken Toys" from the tv "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer", a place where the infirmed, mentally, the misfits, the (*wahhhh*) rejects, the (sniffel, cry, *sob*) rejected, the infirm, the unclean. The wildebeast! Where all these, and others can comiserate. And find health and a place to grow. Let the healing begin. And healing starts with medication and Bailey's Irish Creme works as well as anything else, so, off to the kitchen I go for my pour-scription. Luvlee, luvlee post, luvleerita.

lili, you read my frickin' mind. I was listening to Dark Side of the Moon this weekend and had the exact same epiphany concerning Brain Damage. It really works well with the "mentally exhausted Paul" theory (and supported by songs such as Ruby Tuesday and Fool on the Hill).
Consider that Pink Floyd was indeed part of the inner circle of the Beatles, and that one of the only documented Paul McCartney appearances in the fall of 1966 before the Mal Evans home movie was at the party for It magazine where The Pink Floyd played.
Amazing. I was just coming here to post this theory, and you already beat me to it. Jinx!
The lunatic is in my head. The lunatic is in my head You raise the blade, you make the change You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
Meaning: The constant need for Paul lookalikes and fill-ins, i.e. Fauls and vocal impersonators, until Paul feels he can come back.
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
This reminds me of a lyric from How Kind of You. "How kind of you to think of me when I was out of sorts. It really meant a lot to be in someone else's thoughts... someone else's mind..." Meaning not that there's someone literally in Paul's mind, but that someone is thinking like him and acting like him.

I know that it's being discussed here that Dear Prudence was written about Mia's sister. However, I have been told by more than one source that John used to call Paul Pru. It was because he thought that Paul's hoity toity attitude made him seem like a prude. We all know that Paul was anything but, at least when it came to women. ;DDear Prudence Lyrics Send The Beatles polyphonic ringtone to your cell phone Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day The sun is up, the sky is blue It's beautiful and so are you Dear Prudence won't you come out to play Dear Prudence open up your eyes Dear Prudence see the sunny skies The wind is low the birds will sing that you are part of everything Dear Prudence won't you open up your eyes? Look around round Look around round round Look around Dear Prudence let me see you smile Dear Prudence like a little child The clouds will be a daisy chain So let me see you smile again Dear Prudence won't you let me see you smile? I have a sneaking suspicion that John wrote this song about Paul. It is no secret that Paul was unhappy for at least a year prior to his disappearance & replacement. I think that John was trying to tell Paul that he should open his eyes & see how good he has it. I'm sure that Paul felt otherwise.
