The first song I looked up of Lennon's on sing365 was What You Got and it seems to be about PID. The references in songs after the Beatles are everwhere. What You Got lyrics: Don't wanna be a drag, everybody gotta bag I know you know, 'bout the emperor's clothes
You don't know what you got, until you lose it You don't know what you got, until you lose it You don't know what you got, until you lose it Oh baby, baby, baby gimme one more chance
Well it's Saturday night and I just gotta rip it up Sunday morning I just gotta give it up Come Monday momma and I just gotta run away You know it's such a drag to face another day
You don't know what you got, until you lose it You don't know what you got, until you lose it You don't know what you got, until you lose it Oh baby, baby, baby gimme one more chance
You know the more it change, the more it stays the same You gotta hang on in, you gotta cut the string
You don't know what you got, until you lose it You don't know what you got, until you lose it You don't know, you don't know what you got, until you lose it Oh baby, baby, baby gimme one more chanceNotice the reference to the emperor's clothes.

Yes, I did notice that. There is also this:
It seems to be a deliberate reference to Lady Madonna. The line " You know it's such a drag to face ANOTHER DAY." I think that ANOTHER DAY is a direct reference to BILL !
Those are great clues, thanks DarkHorse !

And wasn't "Another Day" a song Bill had a minor hit with?

yup.. 1971. The song reached #2 on the charts.. bit more than a minor hit i guess.

Well, "minor" in that it's not a big song to most Beatle fans...maybe Bill fans...

It could be John singing from what he believes is the real Paul's perspective, lamenting running away from life as a Beatle.

You say, but John and George are really gone. There is Ringo, there is Dhani, and there is Julian and Sean. And if there is James Paul, it is not too late for "The Beatles: The Next Generation."

If that's the case, then:

Could mean finding out that another person has been replaced !
From the song:

The more it changes the more it stays the same ? It sounds to me like John's making a direct reference to Paul being replaced ! Things might have looked the same, but they sure had changed ! He had no choice but to hang on in & cut his string to Paul !
Doc, don't we all wish that were possible !

Slightly O/T here:
From How Do You Sleep?:
"And since you're gone you're just another day."
Now we know what John was referring to. Bill was just another 'Day' as in just another Doris Day, another double.

That's a great interpretation, DH. I agree with you completely !

Bill was just another 'Day' as in just another Doris Day, another double. Yes, I'd thought of Doris Day in that line for a long tme, and was just about to post that. Consider also, though, that the lines are: "The only thing you done was Yesterday/ and siince you've gone you're just Another Day" --people at the time thought he was making a pun on the recent "McCartney" hit song "Another Day", which may in itself be a pun on Doris Day -- the song is about a young single girl who has a one night stand and lives a dull workaday life. "DAY after DAY alone on a hill/ the man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still ..."

You know, it could've been meant both ways. John was notorious for his use of the double entendre !

Of course, the song "Another Day" could be singing about a portion of Foris's life. Every Day She Takes A Morning Bath S E Wets Her Hair, Wraps A Towel Around Her As She's Heading For The Bedroom Chair, It's Just Another Day. Slipping Into Stockings, Stepping Into Shoes, Dipping In The Pocket Of Her Raincoat. Ah, It's Just Another Day.
At The Office Where The Papers Grow She Takes A Break, Drinks Another Coffee And She Finds It Hard To Stay Awake,
It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du Lt's Just Another Day.
Ay So Sad, So Sad, Sometimes She Feels So Sad. Alone In Her Apartment She'd Dwell, Till The Man Of Her Dreams Comes To Break The Spell.
Ah, Stay, Don't Stand Around And He Comes And He Stays But He Leaves The Next Day, So Sad. Sometimes She Feels So Sad.
As She Posts Another Letter To The Sound Of Five, People Gather 'Round Her And She Finds It Hard To Stay Alive,
It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du It's Just Another Day.
Every Day She Takes A Morning Bath She Wets Her Hair, Wraps A Towel Around Her As She's Heading For The Bedroom Chair, It's Just Another Day.
Slipping Into Stockings, Stepping Into Shoes, Dipping In The Pockets Of Her Raincoat.
Ah, It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du It's Just Another Day.Now we're gonna start reading into any song the has the word day in it... For instance: I remember finding out about you Every day my mind is all around you Looking out from my lonely room, day after day Bring it home, maybe someday soon I give my love to you I remember holding you while you sleep Every day I feel the tears the tears that you weep Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day Bring it home, maybe someday soon I give my love to you ...... Looking out of my lonely room, day after day Bring it home, maybe someday soon I give my love to you I remembert finding out about you Every day my mind is all around you Looking out from my lonely room, day after day Bring it home, maybe someday soon I give my love to you

I had been thinking about the "day after day" song for a long time before you posted that, Skirmisher: the "I remember finding out about you" part is scary. "Day after day" also recalls the beginning of "Fool on the Hill."
"She said she'd always been a dancer She worked at fifteen clubs A DAY and though she thought I knew the answer well I knew but I could not say ..." ---She Came In Through the Bathroom Window
To throw something else in the mix:
"There's Nazis in the bathroom, just below the stairs ..."
---John Lennon, recorded in 1980
"Nobody told me there'd be DAYS like these ... Strange DAYS indeed"

and though she thought I knew the answer well I knew but I could not say ...
I posted the lyrics to Abbey Road under another thread. I believe that this line is a direct reference to the fact that he was hiding something ! That something is the fact that he isn't the REAL Paul McCartney !
