I started this one particularly to show that JPM style was even given to other artists to sing.
I've seen about World Without Love, sung by Peter and Gordon, but some may not have known that three other JPM/Lennon songs were recorded by Peter and Gordon. "I don't Want To See You Again",
"Nobody I know" and according to The Sixties PleasureZone, one written under a pseudonym called "Woman". I tried to find the lyrics for "Woman", but the site I found the other Two songs was messed up and you hit the title of the Song "I Don't Want To See You Again" and it showed lyrics to another song .
But my point here is that even in the non Beatle compositions recorded by other artists still reflects the style that was unique of JPM. Bill could not duplicate the sound or style no matter how much he may have been able to sound similar enough to fool the masses.
Here are the lyrics of "I Don't Want Te See You Again" and "Nobody I know". Maybe you know these songs, you can tell they are clearly JPM compositions. The lyrics are haunting because it's JPM through and through at that period of their careers.
I Don't Want To See You Again
I hear that love is planned
How can I understand
When someone says to me,
I don't want to see you again?
Why do I cry at night?
Something wrong could be right.
I hear you say to me,
I don't want to see you again.
as you turned your back to me,
You hid the light of day,
Id idn't have to play,
At being broken hearthed
I know that later on,
after love's been and gone,
I'd still hear someone say, "I don't want to see you again.
As you turned your back on me,
'you hid the light of day.
I didn't have to play at being broken hearted.
I hear that love is planned,
how can I understand,
When someone says to me,'I don't want to see you again?
I don't want to see you again.
Nobody I know
Nobody I know could love me more than you,'
You can give me so much love it seems untrue,
Listen to the bird who sings it to the tree,
And then when you've heard him see if you agree,
Nobody I know could love you more than me.
Ev'rywhere I go the sun comes shining through,
Ev'ryone I know is sure it shines for you,
Even in my dreams I look into your eyes,
Suddenly it seems I've found a paradise,
Ev'rywhere I go the sun comes shining through.
It means so much to be a part of a heart of a wonderful one,
When other lovers are gone we'lllive on,
We'll live on.
Even in my dreams I look into your eyes,
Suddenly it seems I've found a paradise,
Ev'rywhere I go the sun comes shining through,
Nobody I know could love me more than you,
'You can give me such love it seems utnrue,
Listen to the bird who sings it to the tree,
And thenwhen you've heard him see if you agree,
Nobody I know could love you more than me
Nobody I know could love you more than me
If you are familiar with Peter and Gordon music, you can probably hear their harmony.
I had forgotten about "Nobody I Know" but I heard it on an oldies' station that plays really old songs, and this came on. It was a reminder that JPM's talent was clearly unique and not able to be duplicated. Something that was not found after 1967. Even in Bill's best attempts, it just wasn't the same music.
I wonder if there was someone special who inspired these songs? Alot of what they wrote came from their hearts.
World Without Love was a heartfelt song.
I also remember Bad To Me that was recorded by Billy J. Kramer...
Interesting that alot of the songs that were recorded by other artists were about love or love gone wrong.
How Do You Do It by Gerry and the Pacemakers come to mind...
