Who wrote those lyrics?, what's the real meaning of this song? Two Of Us Lennon/McCartney
Two of us riding nowhere spending someone's hard earned pay You and me Sunday driving Not arriving on our way back home We're on our way back home We're on our way home We're going home
Two of us sending postcards writing letters on my wall You and me burning matches lifting latches on our way back home We're on our way back home We're on our way home We're going home
You and I have memories longer that that road that stretches out ahead
Two of us wearing raincoats standing solo in the sun You and me chasing paper getting nowhere on our way back home We're on our way back home We're on our way home We're going home
You and I have memories longer that that road that stretches out ahead
Two of us wearing raincoats standing solo in the sun You and me chasing paper getting nowhere on our way back home We're on our way back home We're on our way home We're going home We're going home

Good question to ask MCIII.
It could have been partially written by JPM before he died and then the important parts added and finished by John.
Bill could have also added lyrics. We don't know how much he was involved in general. But my vote still goes to John.

Bill told to journalist Ray Coleman that "Two Of Us" was for Linda Eastman, his recent girlfriend, but the lyrics are more in the John style, you know, a song with more than one meaning.
If the song was wrote by Bill, he made a remarcable mistake in this line ---"You and I have memories Longer than the road that stretches out ahead", that doesn't work for Paul and Linda in 1969, when they known each other for only a couple of years and had been romantically involved for a much shorter time, but it fits if was for Bill and Linda and tey be romantically involved before James Paul die.

And that's a good point. We sure have been discovering how much Bill lies lately on this forum. Well he has to, so no fault of his own.
Anyway, I think John wrote it about Paul.

It isn't his fault because he has to." Yes, I agree. Everybody needs to rest, particularly when they become tired. Are you saying that Bill is in need of a break from the limelight? We all need time away from it all sometimes.

Or maybe JPM wrote it for John in 66?

You and I have memories Longer than the road that stretches out ahead
There's the theory that Billy and Linda knew each other for years and she may've been his girlfriend but he had to drop her for a while when he took on Paul's identity. In this scenario, the lyrics would fit.
However, I'm inclined to think this was written by John (a clue song), and it's about about Paul and Brian.
You and me Sunday driving Not arriving on our way back home...

Or maybe JPM wrote it for John in 66? That's was my first impresion TI, but see this lines of two songs and compare it: "Two of us wearing raincoats/Standing solo in the sun...." (two of us) "Can you hear me, that when it rains and shines/It's just a state of mind..." (rain) Isn't it a pure Lennon paradox? And the line "standing solo" (solo is the spanish for alone, is one of the team out of the scene? And how about "burning matches" i'm remember one legend where Paul was charged to set fire a German cinema in the Hamburgo days. (I think isee in a film called "The Birth of The Beatles" or something like this)

This line has always bothered me. Who's hard earned pay are they talking about ? Paul's Then, it's John who wrote at least those lyrics about him & Bill ! John could've very well written that in reference to what happened to Paul & Brian. I agree with McCIII. I think John wrote that song. I also think that it was about any number of things. I don't think that it was about Bill & Linda. John's tribute to his relationship with Paul

I just don't think that during Get Back/Let It Be that Lennon was very apt to giving Faulguy more songs.
Who's hard earned pay are they talking about ?
The fans' ...?

It does seem more "Lennonesque" than Faulish. John's way with words and imagery were unique and something that JPM didn't have. JPM had a special touch, but not the way John did. One that jumps to mind right now is John's wording in "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds".
The idea that it's about Bill and Linda is one of Bill's "faulterations". Bill's version of what was..doesn't always fit other stories about the band.

T.I., I guess if John did write part of the song before Paul was killed it would be about the "fans". I agree with Rita. Bill has done many "faul"terations of Beatle history. Another "clue for you all" :
