Joshua M. Greene, the author of Here Comes The Sun, the spiritual and musical journey of George Harrison, describes a conversation he had with George Harrison;
Murray said, '(...)[George] asked me if I remembered the rumour about Paul being dead. People were running around for years playing albums backwards and finding evidence that Paul was dead. He said it even reached a point where he began believing that Paul was dead. He was absolutely amazed how people would study this stuff.

You know, it's entirely possible that Paul was just replaced while they were all off doing their own thing during the latter months of '66 and when they came back there Bill was, doing such a damn good impression that they never even noticed it wasn't him. Until the PID craze of '69, when they started to get a teensy bit suspicious...

Until the PID craze of '69, when started to get a teensy bit suspicious... Late 1968: "John, here's some gibberish that I want you to mutter at the end of "I'm So Tired". And George, why don't you moan Paul's name lugubriously into the microphone at the end of *While My Guitar Gently Weeps*......?
