It's bothered me for quite awhile. Here are photos of Paul, all supposedly taken in 1966: I don't see the third photo as being Paul. I have other photos from that photo session. I will post them when I get the chance. Faul, 1967:

Explanation: They were using doubles for JPM before he disappeared in September 1966. Dino Danelli, Keith Allison, agent X? JPM seems to have been ill and troubled. I'm also wondering if they experimented with using a vocal imposter for him in the studio for some songs before September 1966. "I've Just Seen a Face" sounds rather like Mickey Dolenz.

Faul, 1967: In that Faul 1967 photo, that looks to be from the Faul LSD interview, he has the cornea/iris drooping to one side look of David Bowie (who had the eye permanently injured in a fight when he was a teenager). He seems Bowiesque. I wonder if they were using Bowie as a temporary Faul while they were perfecting the "Bill" Faul. David Bowie would have been 20 years old in 1967.

beatlies, please don't go TKIN! Hey, I always qualify with a "perhaps"-like word unless I'm really certain. There's no harm in thinking aloud and exploring various "what if" scenarios. Did TKIN ever suggest that Bowie impostered JPM? I'm not aware of that being mentioned at TKIN.

You are right about this (thanks, God ;D) Don't think so. My comment was about the fact that on TKIN the replacement is always a Very Important Person and never a Not Important Person.

The key name here is ROBERT WHITAKER. He was the phtotographer for all those 65-66 shoots. HIS ENTIRE OEUVRE IS CURRENTLY ON EXHIBIT IN LONDON. And someone reading this in London, needs to go check it out and report back ASAP.
(Bowie is shorter than Ringo; keep that in mind.)

BOWIE LOOKS LIKE MICK JAGGER Bowie has a lighter, Norman (see Viking-Danish) coloring and features. You know, the more I see these sill Jaggar/Knotts comparisons, what I can see is a similarity of source genetic material. Jaggar has very nearly the same relative "pieces" of the face, but the way they fit together is undeniably, sorry to the late Mr. Knotts, more handsome. But Don was a lot better at portraying a deputy police officer than Mick might have been. I must note; why does Bowie's nose seem more tapered, carved , and aquiline later on than in that early picture? Do we all lose our nose fat after 20? Is that why I had a short bulbous honker when I was 17, but now it looks more narrow, even almost thin toward the top? Am I going to have a pointy, wizardly shaft when I reach my December Years? Oh gawd I hope they have over-the-counter Botox by then.

Even Don Knotts didn't deserve that! [/quote] But Don was a lot better at portraying a deputy police officer than Mick might have been. I messed up the previous post. David Bowie never did and never will look like Mick Jagger. Somebody put a dark brown mop top Beatle hair on David and give him dark contacts and he could be a double......maybe.... Put him on stage with a half a zillion screaming teenieboppers and tell them it's the Beatles, and they may consider he's JPM......10 light years away from the stage? THey screamed so loudly that you couldn't even hear the music. I remember a story that Keith Richards, in the Rolling Stones screaming teenies era, that during the concert he played Popeye the Sailor Man on the guitar, nobody knew the difference... Anything is possible. Maybe Marty Feldman stood in for Ringo....
