1. 'Obladi Oblada' is often described as the worst Beatles' song made, so I was wondering, was this Bill's first song with the Beatles that he wrote on his own? Perhaps after writing this, he asked for help from Lennon, in order not to blow his cover. 2. The song, "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite" -- perhaps Bill's last name wasn't Campbell, but Kite? What if it was a party thrown for the new Beatle, perhaps a secret party, and it was an extravagant one too? Or it could be the song about Bill's first birthday with the Beatles. If you listen to the Anthology version of the song, you hear an Army Sergant saying "All right men, let's go, lights out lights out..." I remember seeing a picture here of a guy that looks like Paul McCartney in an Army uniform and it says "Billy Pepper" underneath it... Was Billy in the army before being in the Beatles? 3. Look at Paul McCartney's CD, Standing Stone... is this where the real Paul is buried?

Very interesting post. Can anyone (sorry to ask JoJo! ) perhaps get stills of this? The cover seems very Celtic to me due to the writing, perhaps that's Ireland? I personally don't mind "Obladi Oblada" (I like the bassline in the chorus!) but I have heard that statement before, you may be right with that call.

That was posted here? Sorry I have no idea what you are talking about, but if I knew where that was from, I'd be happy to grab it. Are you sure it said "Billy Pepper"?? Edit: I forgot about ReallyReallyDead's sig: Creative, but his idea alone.. That's a still from the "Pipes of Peace" video, interesting in itself, because Paul (and his double on the German side) meet on a WW1 battlefield.

About Obladi-Oblada, well I have always liked that song. It's one of the better songs from the White Album and the acoustic version on the Anthology might even be better. Maybe some see the lyrics as silly and meaningless but the song definitely has a nice melody.

Perhaps the melody of Obladi Oblada was originally a work in progress of JPM's and Bill added his touch with the "silly love song" lyrics.
I say "work in progress" because it may have been a piece that JPM had worked on, but not recorded or perfected.
Was Bill a Celtic soldier? Maybe the Canadian bit about him is not his native land, but where he relocated in preparation for becoming JPM.....
Just a thought...not something documented elsewhere....

Obladi is an anagram for diablo. Meaningful? Perhaps.

One self-taught "Dylanologist" AJ Weberman thinks it's about Bob Dylan (Desmond) and "THE BAND"
My interpretations of the 1968 song---
"obladi olbada" "Bloody Bob" "Bob Double"?
1966-68 seclusion of Dylan (Fylan?) and Sara (Fara?): "Desmond stay at home and does his pretty face ... in a couple of years they have built a home sweet home ... Desmond and Molly JONES"
On the same album: "Just like Dylan's Mr. Jones ..."

Jones is a very common name in the British Isles. Paul wrote Obladi Oblada before he died. It's his work. Bill added that stupid sh*t about "Desmond stayed at home & did his pretty face". I can guarantee you that if you find the handwritten lyrics by Paul, that line is NOT written there. That was added after he died. I read that he wrote Obladi Oblida because someone had said that to him, & it stuck in his head. This is all IMHO of course.

Bill added that stupid sh*t about "Desmond stayed at home & did his pretty face". The official story to this is that Paul(Bill) accidently sang 'Desmond' when it was supposed to be 'Molly' and when he pointed out to the rest they all said "let's just leave it in for laughs."

Dylan in the early '60s sang a well-known cover of a folk song called "Handsome Molly" .... and in the evening she's a singer with "The Band."
"O bloody Bob?" "O Bob double"
I was also thinking about "Thingumy(B)ob." That was the title of a 1968 British sitcom with a character named "Bob Bridges"with an instrumental titled "Thingumybob" written by "Paul McCartney."
