"Paul is Dead" in "Yellow Submarine"?

"Yellow Submarine" is supposed to have its share of fairly-subtle PID clues.

Is there at least one set of clues that's not so subtle?

On iamaphoney's Rotten Apple 49

...which runs 6 minutes and 48 seconds and contains clips from the movie and soundtrack, you can definitely hear the phrase "Paul is dead" three times (maybe four) between 4:42 and 4:54.

This is during the nautical voice section of the song "Yellow Submarine".

But I can only hear that in the Rotten Apple version of the song. I can't hear anything like that on any other track of the song from the movie.

Iamaphoney was accused of dubbing that phrase into his video, and I was inclined to think that he had done so...

...except that on page 92 of R. Gary Patterson's "The Walrus Was Paul" (Simon & Schuster 1998), the author makes reference to the fact that others had reported hearing John Lennon's voice during the same section of the same song saying "Paul is dead" followed by "Dead man, dead man" -- which is not exactly what you hear in RA 49 (nor is that Lennon's voice talking in RA 49).

What's the story here?

Damn, I thought that this thread which I started three weeks ago was also dead -- that it had died in its infancy.

I haven't heard "Paul is queer" - if John says that, he's presumably referring to the Paul that isn't dead. Can you tell me which video you're listening to and the minute and second segment?

I had given up on this thread, but as long as it's been resuscitated for now, I'll repeat my question -- why is it that the phrase "Paul is dead" can be heard fairly clearly on the Rotten Apple video that I linked but (apparently) not on any other "Yellow Submarine" video or audio that one might listen to.

Again, I was inclined to think that Iamaphoney had "cheated" a little by dubbing that phrase in himself, except for the fact that in the Patterson book, there is a reference to that same phrase in the same section of the song. Has there been more than one release of this soundtrack, and has the phrase been cleansed from later editions?

I believe that in the RA version IAAP added his own 'paul is dead' the 'pid' in that version certainly isn't in any of the original takes. I'm sure if you asked him IAAP would tell you he was simply exaggerating (can't think of the right word) what was already there. there is something, something almost inaudible - but they do say something. whether or not it's 'pid' i don't know

I HAVE asked, without receiving a response. Apparently, Mike is the only one that Iamaphoney talks to. As I've said before, apparently John Updike was right when he said that gods do not answer letters.

However, Deceptionist, your explanation is very convincing and quite likely the correct one.

The RA saga IS over, I think.

He hasn't posted anything under RA or even under the name "Iamaphoney" for quite some time -- or more recently, he has posted things under those headings and then pulled them. He occasionally posts under other names -- he has a bunch of them, but it's hard to keep up.

I think that he had some sort of expectation -- from wherever derived -- that something would happen on November 12, 2007 that would cause Sir Paul to "disappear" or something like that. He indicates as much in some of his pre 11/2007 videos.

Something momentous related to this subject matter, and he wanted and expected that his RA series would come to a magnificent close at the same time that the temple fell.

And nothing like that DID happen, and so Iamaphoney was kind of left holding the bag, so to speak.

When that fire in East London broke out in the vicinity of the Eye, he grasped onto that eagerly and briefly made a panoramic picture of the fire into wallpaper for his YouTube website.

But the fire turned out to be a pretty ordinary fire, and the date appears to be only coincidental. Then Heather Mills made noises about being in possession of some sort of secret which would change people's minds about Sir Paul, and I suppose that everyone wondered, well, could it have anything to do with the subject matter at hand?

I wondered that myself but also privately doubted that Sir Paul would be ill-advised enough to share a secret like that with this harpie, and that whole Heather Mills thing went away as well (what did her dark secrets turn out to consist of? Domestic violence and taunts about her handicap. Was anyone seriously surprised that Sir Paul is not a model human being in a private life? I sure wasn't. And Viagra --sheesh! Go impale yourself, Heather!)

But anyway, Iamaphoney made some RA videos about Heather Mills maybe with the hope that she would reveal THE secret, and that whole thing fell by the wayside.

I think that Iamaphoney truly was not prepared for the contingency that nothing would happen in November 2007 and that the rather significant following that he had acquired would say, "Well? Now what?"

But I don't hold it against him. I enjoyed his videos tremendously and made sure not to invest too much emotion in the promise of a November 2007 apocalypse so I'm not too disappointed.

Ironically enough, he's fallen into a sort of post-mortem stage not unlike the one that Sir Paul fell into after the Beatles disbanded where his productions have fallen kind of flat.

The "You Know My Name" productions just don't seem to have the same edge that the RA productions did. And the 4:34 444 2222 production is also nothing special. It's not clear what any of this means.

I'm hopeful that Iamaphoney does get his "edge" back eventually. Perhaps something else will happen to enable him to do that.

I can post a clip (or the entire track) if anyone is interested. I have a lot to say about this subject and the clues. I will be gathering some material in the coming days and post a large amount when I can figure out a way to make it comprehensive enough. To leave you with a taste, Paul is not dead. Neither is John for that matter.

These clues are ancient. However, I have heard take 5 of Yellow Submarine and there does not seem to be an evident case of "Paul is dead". I would very much like to hear this clip, lordspiel.

I'm with Jude. I haven't heard a definite "Paul is queer" or "Paul is dead" in any version (except IAAP's).

see the problem with that song is that there is a literal sea of chatter so to speak - so its hard to pinpoint what any one comment might be saying at any one time.

initially i had thought that you had meant the bit around "aye aye sir" which definitely doesnt say 'paul is dead' or 'paul is queer'.

I too, have heard this one. "Paul, sorrows were forbidden" would make more sense, however, in the context of the Paul is Dead story.

okay, so i had another look and i had a cup of tea...

the sound you refer to is buried amongst a melange of (presumably) 'friends from next door'. the 'paul is dead' that you hear is on the left speaker only.

so i took the left channel, played with the eq to diminish the sound of ringo slightly and had a listen....

the above file is the result at full speed, followed by 90, 80, 70 and finally 60% speed.

that is what i would call john's 'drunken colonel' voice .. a la 'you know my name'. most often this consists of mumbled gibberish. admittedly, at full speed it sounds similar to 'paul is dead'. although when slowed down it appears to have too many syllables and only when slowed to 60% sounds a bit more like "oh, seriously - understandably".

of course, im not saying that it definitely says "oh seriously" just that that is what i hear in place of PID.

i think this is another one of those uber-subjective semi-clues that involve too much head-scratching and varied results depending on the listener. not sure what to make of this one atm

I think the part that lordspiel where lordspiel is hearing "dead" is actually John or Paul saying "Fred" backwards. Listen carefully and you'll hear that it is "derf", not dead, and reverse it and you'll clearly hear "fred".

There is no "paul is dead' phrase in the song. But there IS a "you're dead, you're dead" that occurs immediately after "Pauls a queer".
