I agree. It's good to see you back in the saddle again ;D JoJo, I love that interview. Paul was so nervous. He was chewing on his fingers & just fidging about. Poor guy. I really don't think he enjoyed being interviewed alone.

Welcome, sistermaryabbey! Glad to have you on board here at NIR.
The video was informative; it made me wonder did Paul indeed want to retire early? And William really got JP's mannerisms down to a tee. The language and mannerisms in this clip and the language and mannerisms on the infamous "Fauls on his first appearence outside Abbey Road on the evening of Dec 20, 1966" [or whatever it is we call it] are totally sympatico, mannerisms, meter, mood, etc. Either William practiced a whole bunch or has a definite knack or whatever; point is, he began "performing Paul" rather well early in the game. The Sargent Pepper's period was just the first inning.
So, is this the 7th inning stretch?

It most definitely is the 7th Inning Stretch, Doc. If what some people have theorized is true, then Bill was with the boys all along. As a hanger-on. So, he had ample time to watch all of them & get their mannerisms down. I bet he could imitate them all equally well. He just "lucked out" that it was Paul who kicked the bucket, since he resembled him. I remember reading awhile ao on TKIN that he performed Yesterday for the boys & they were impressed. That could be why he was offered the job so quickly. Paul seemed rather stiff in that interview. I think that he was a rather formal person when in public. I believe that he took his role as the groups' spokesman very seriously. Bill, on the other hand, has delighted in acting like a goof off from day one.

Well, now, daydreamers sometimes merit some interpretation. This occurs to me: from: www.clinicalchild.com/adhd_the_pros.htmOf course, William may not have ADHD and he isn't our child, but, yet, strangely, it may be all about the creative impulse. People with ADHD shift their attention abruptly and at odd times to other things. Is it raining where you live? Anyway, maybe he does, or maybe he does not. I dont know maybe he likes to just twaddle around. Who can say. I know that I certainly do. When does basketball season start, isn't it just around the corner? Speaking of corners, we could have a little section here at NIR devoted to discussions of creative people. Or the planting of hydrangias. Hmm. Just a budding idea that needs time to flower.

Well..If you want to plant the garden, I don't see why not.. I'm working on a side by side of this video and the 1967 BBC interview, but making a page that does that is turning out to be a major pain. It's interesting to watch them playing side by side.. Here is the 1967 video if you want to get started. A trick for playing them both is to open one with Real Player, and one with Windows media player. (Windows MP will open it after complaining it may not be able to)

OK, figured out a trick, one is a Quicktime movie, (the 1967 footage) and the other is real video. The direct link to the Quicktime version of the 1967 video. The 1964 footage link again. Both on this page. Macintosh: Gotta use Safari to get them both to show up on one page, but wow does the system really choke on it, at least on mine. Windows: OK on Internet Explorer, may not work on Firefox/Mozilla unless you have Active X installed. Or you can just download them as separate files.. Anyway, one guy gestures/emphasizes with his left hand, the other with his right, just one thing that stands out as you watch it. Surprisingly, it's the opposite of who you would think.

That's incredible. Notice that Paul is chewing the index finger on his right hand. Bill is trying to imitate this, but is putting his left index finger in his mouth. Wild ! Also, note the difference in their ears. Great job, JoJo !

It's difficult to listen to both conversations at the same time, but if you do, you hear a distinct difference there as well. First, Paul is interested in talking about music, Bill speaks about the hippy/psychedelic movement. Paul talks fast, and his intonation goes up and down. Bill copies this somewhat, but it's much closer to a monotone, and he speaks more slowly and deliberately.
It is like Bill watched the Paul interview, but he copied it as if he were a mirror image.

Thanks DoctorRobert for the welcome.
I think maybe Bill did try hard to sound like Paul at the beginning, but he has since become overconfident and his accent is now all wrong, even his pronounciation of certain words. I have listened to Bill and then to authentic recordings of Paul's voice and they are quite different. Some of the Beatle outtakes are very telling such as the one for 'Rocky Raccoon' where he says "minnie so ta"........such pronounciation is not Paul. Makes me think Bill might have been from Minnesota and moved to Canada.
Also, Bill is overly chit chatty and seems a bit full of himself. Paul wasn't that free flowing with the words.

Maybe Bill left America to join the Canadian "military"....or was it a spy op?

It could very well been a spy op. Wouldn't surprise me at this point.

hmm... this inverview is very telling for the the theory that Paul just dropped out in 1966 and became a ghost writer and such:
...
PAUL: (shakes head and laughs) "No! No, nothing like that. I'd like to... retire."
(laughter)
DAVID FROST: "And when do you think you'll achieve that ambition?"
PAUL: (jokingly) "The way things are going, about a couple of years or so."
(laughter)
...
PAUL: "No. I couldn't care less, really, if we flopped tomorrow. It'd be sad, you know... but it wouldn't really worry me."
DAVID FROST: "Could you go back to doing something else?"
PAUL: "I'd miss doing this. But I think I'd think of something else to do."
DAVID FROST: "What would you like to do?"
PAUL: "Write songs for other people."
DAVID FROST: "Completely different?"
PAUL: "Completely different. Or... retire, you know."

RRD, just because Paul said that doesn't meant that is what happened. It's a shame, because he definitley deserved to have been able to live the life that he envisioned for himself.

obviously it doesn't mean that it did happen, but just that it could have happened.
