youtube.com/watch?v=Here we see composer John Cage talking about how he adopted the Lennon-Ono diet. Does anyone actually know what the rules were in this diet besides the refusal of animal fats? (BTW, wasn't Cage also a major influence on Revolution 9?)

(BTW, wasn't Cage also a major influence on Revolution 9?) Macrobiotics! In my opinion it sucks. The food has no flavor and the people who eat it look sickly and thin. No fruit, no spice, no salt. But if it works for you, go for it. Personally I don't buy it. I'm sure it's better than eating candy and pork rinds... this link will tell you how: macrobiotics.co.uk/also "Macrobiotics emphasizes locally grown whole grain cereals, pulses (legumes), vegetables, seaweed, fermented soy products and fruit, combined into meals according to the principle of balance (known as yin and yang). Dietary recommendations include whole grains, such as brown rice, and other whole-grain products, such as buckwheat pasta (soba); a variety of cooked and raw vegetables; beans and bean products, such as tofu, tempeh and miso; ; mild natural seasonings; fish; nuts and seeds; mild (non-stimulating) beverages, such as bancha twig tea; and fruit. Nightshade vegetables, including tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant; also spinach, beets and avocados are forbidden (or used sparingly) in macrobiotic cooking, as they are considered extremely yin.[3] Some macrobiotic practitioners also discourage the use of nightshades due to the alkaloid solanine, thought to affect calcium balance" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macrobiotic_diet

I'm doing alot of rethinking about what I eat and drink.
The main problem is, being in college, who has time to mess with fresh fruit and veggies? I usually just stick with preservative riddled canned vegetables.
I've become addicted to tea and colas. I tried to go a week without a Mountain Dew, and I couldn't do it. I felt like crap and then I went and bought another case.
My friend keeps telling me that people would actually be better off drinking tap water than bottled water because much of bottled water actually comes from the local supply, and can have a higher risk of bacteria or chemical contaminants.
It just really bothers me how we can't buy ANYTHING without all this junk in it. I was looking at my bread... Not only is it not really whole grain, but the brown coloring (which Pumpernickel bread is famous for) is fake as well! They use caramel coloring for it now.
I wouldn't put it past them to start putting High Fructose Corn Syrup in the water as well....

It really is tough, MY. Do you have a car and a store near campus? Or some bus system that will take you there? I rarely eat the campus food because I am severely sketched out by it. I always feel nasty after eating it. I know it is a really big pain to have to avoid on-campus food and all that, but I make a lot of stuff pre-prepared when I have time, pop it in the fridge, and then it's ready for me whenever I want it without me having to put forth a lot of effort. That said, I'm severely addicted to coffee; that is one of my biiiiig weaknesses!

Dude I have been trying to get off the high fructose corn syrup too but they put it in EVERYTHING!!!!! It is in things you never dreamed it would be in, and I am trying to avoid MODIFIED FOOD STARCH and MSG they put MSG in EVEYTHING now too! I drink SPRING water not just rebottled tap water, and your friend is wrong because tap water has flouride and drugs that people flush down the toilet. I can't even stay off these food additives for a week, I'm going to try it again starting today, one stressed out day I went to the store and bought all the high fructose I could find and binged and I felt aweful, speaking of fruit you just reminded me I have fresh strawberries in the fridge! ( how do ya think they get such great color? )

Unless those strawberries are organic, strawberries are one of the most polluted fruits out there. Average fruit is tainted, yes? Overage fruit too. It's chemical leverage. Grove ramen, if you will. Four delicious servings blended into this post! (Five if you count Veracruz.) -j

I think Macrobiotics can be very healthy - just hard for westerners to stick to. No sugar, alcohol, caffeine, lot's of brown rice and veggies. Actually they do allow salt as long as it's from the sea.

My main problems are with sugar and caffeine.
I eat alot of rice, but it's Japanese "sticky" rice, not brown. And I only use sea salt. Plus, you can't have potatoes on the diet... dunno how I'd handle that.

It's just that I think people who are on that diet look sickly. Just my opinion...

I had great success with Atkins... I lived on souvlaki and caesar salad, never got tired of it, plus by eating fresh garlic and onions every day I never got sick either, since both are a natural antibiotic. No, I don't stink, I take care of myself. An added benefit of this diet was that my migraines and arthritis disappeared completely, when I used to have to take Advil almost daily. Eliminating starch and sugar will usually cause one to lose weight. Sugar inhibits the fat-burning process. But lately I have become somewhat of a fanatic about unprocessed, natural foods... of course I know there's really no such thing out there these days, but... it has to be better than the rest of the garbage we consume. I make everything from scratch, well now after reading this thread I know I'll finally need to invest in a breadmaker! I made gravy one day, and I used soya sauce to brown it... I'd had it for a long time before I started eating this way, and I didn't realize it wasn't "pure" ;D When I tasted my gravy, I could immediately detect the artificial caramel in the soya sauce, something I would have never noticed before... I hated it. But it's cool that my tastebuds are alive! I'm so happy! Now a typical breakfast for me would be some kind of cooked cereal with raisins boiled up first so they're nice n' tender, topped with a little cream and a bit of agave syrup, toasted wheat germ and chopped walnuts. Mmmm... can't wait till breakfast! This article took me by surprise, although I suppose I should expect no less: The FDA and... cherries. www.naturalnews.com/019366.htmlWith everything that's going on behind the scenes today, we really need to do everything we can to protect ourselves... I'm starting to wish I owned my own land somewhere so I could grow my own food...
