AHA!! ;D I had no idea that melatonin could be used recreationally. After all, it's readily available over the counter. It's like saying that there are kids who are injecting Welch's Grape Juice into their veins.

But I can't imagine what thrills melatonin would provide anyone, and I understand that F&L in Las Vegas was set in the early 1970's, which is probably before melatonin was even being produced in laboratories and sold commercially.

I know. The 3-milligram capsules that are sold over-the-counter are simply a benign supplement to what your body already does when the lights are out.

3 milligrams. It's how I sleep at night. I pop one every night. 3mgs. I prefer the chewables, which seem to work faster, but I have trouble finding them of late in 3 mg or in the orange flavor I prefer. Sometimes there is only the mint flavored ones at the local Whole Foods outlet. Within 30 minutes I begin to fade as I look eagerly to lying down in the QS II (Queen-Size Two) and drifting off into a sea of sheets and pillows, setting sail from the Coasts of Consciousness, passing through the Straits of Somnia, the Snoozing Sands, the Theta Tides and the Waves of Nodding, finally making port on the Shores of Sleep in the R.E.M. Islands. The band last night on Deck 9 pool-side was, you might know, ZZzzz Top. I have been a Melatonin junkie Passenger for 10 years. It what keeps me looking so young and fresh looking. Through gauze. From 30 yards. At sundown.

(Just a guess) ... anyone from the UK know? Given that it is readily available over the counter in the United States and has none of the possible side effects that are caused by sleeping pills, I would be amazed if melatonin is not also available in every drug store, every grocery store, and every store specializing in natural health supplements in the UK as well. If you have a serious sleep disorder, you should consult a doctor. Melatonin is not a "silver bullet". But if you just need a little push into dreamland, I'd recommend it.

i wouldn't say i have a sleeping disorder.. not any more. but i've always found it hard to 'turn off' as it were when i put my head on the pillow.
