hi all! i dunno if any of you have read Portnoy's Complaint by Phillip Roth, but i just finished and i noticed that there are a couple odd PID-similarities, which may or may not be relevant. well, here goes: 1. there's a paragraph that talks about jayne mansfield dying in a car crash. in the Beatles Anthology series, there's also a segment which goes on about jayne mansfield in some movie she was in. it always seemed unnecessary and irrelevant to be in that documentary, but maybe they were simply trying to make a point about her car crash or something to that effect. 2. on page #227 the main character, Portnoy, is embarrassed to tell his Jewish parents about his "goyim" girlfriend, and so he uses the name "Bill Campbell" as a code name, calling his girlfriend this name to keep from getting in trouble by his parents. so essentially Bill is a code name for a person that the main character doesn't want anyone to know about. 3. on page 247 Portnoy mentions the name "Broad Street," like Bill's movie, "give my regards to broad street.'' so yea...not sure if any of this is relevant but i thought i'd clue y'all in peace

I think Jayne Mansfield was decapitated in the car crash, and also there were rumors she had become a follower of Anton Lavey. Her birth name was Vera Jayne Palmer. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portnoy's_Complaint "The central female character of Portnoy's Complaint, Mary Jane Reed (aka "The Monkey") is a caricature of Roth's first wife, Margaret Martinson."Everybody's got something to hide.... And there was that Beatles' song "What's the new Mary Jane?" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What's_The_New_Mary_Jane ------------------------- More Jayne Mansfield material: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jayne_Mansfield"On May 3, 1956, Mansfield signed a long-term contract with 20th-Century Fox. She then played a straight dramatic role (albeit as a stripper) in The Wayward Bus in 1957." "Mansfield reprised her role of Rita Marlowe in the 1957 movie version of 'Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?' " "Jimi Hendrix played bass and lead guitar for Mansfield in 1965 on two songs, 'As The Clouds Drift By' and 'Suey', released together on two sides. According to Hendrix historian Steven Roby (Black Gold: The Lost Archives Of Jimi Hendrix, Billboard Books) this collaboration happened because they shared the same manager." "In 1962, Mansfield appeared with Brian Keith in ABC's Follow the Sun dramatic series..." "Rumors that Mansfield was decapitated are untrue, though she did suffer severe head trauma. This urban legend was spawned by the appearance in police photographs of a crashed automobile with its top virtually sheared off, and what resembles a blonde haired head tangled in the car's smashed windshield. It is believed that this was either a wig that Mansfield was wearing or was her actual hair and scalp." You were in a car crash, and you lost your hair.... "The Pink Palace (her mansion) was sold and its subsequent owners have included Ringo Starr, Cass Elliot, and Engelbert Humperdinck. In 2002, Humperdinck sold it to developers, and the house was demolished in November of that year." www.findadeath.com/Deceased/m/Mansfield/dead%20jayne.htm"There are those that say Jayne was involved with the Church of Satan, ran by Anton LaVey, and her death was a result of a curse he put on her. Whatever. A Findadeath.com friend sends us this: 'I believe from all accounts Jayne's association with La Vey was clearly publicity, he was very hot at the time and she knew that, so she used it. They're were rumors of an affair with Jayne but that cannot be proven, after Jayne's death La Vey used his story of the curse to gain validity, it's bullshit and so was he. She did some photo shoots with him, but that was it, she never stopped going to church nor practiced black magic, she never even read the satanic bible he gave her....' " ------------------------------------------ And, on a related note: "If I become a first lieutenant Would you put my photo on your piano? To Maryjane-- Best wishes, Martin." (from Simon and Garfunkel's "Punkey's Dilemna") "What's the new Mary Jane?" (A lieutenant?) (And who perhaps...) Is "Martin" Sir George in those lyrics? Wishing "Mary Jane" best wishes? (There you go IthinkIknow - an example of S&G doing PID.)

Thanks LB . What an interesting lot of info GBZ and LB. It is very commons as writers to include quirky stuff so not sure if he was just using it as a wink to the PID stuff.

Glad I found this blog. I'm always happily surprised. I'm a Beatles fan, especially, of John. I remember the day that they arrived in America. I saw part of the movie about the murder of John last weekend. Wasn't sure if I wanted to watch. I'm a psychologist and wanted to know WHY. I only saw part of it. The character who shot John said that Portnoy's Complaint made him do it. He was obsessed with the book. What a waste.

I hadn't been to the Home page before I registered. I started on the page Portnoy's Complaint before I went to the home page. Now I'm interested in the discussion about the replacement of Paul McCartney

^ If you're interested in knowing more about John's assassination, I recommend Fenton Bresler's book, "The Murder of John Lennon."
Anyway, about this:

There are rather a lot of references to car crashes, are there not? Personally, I think Paul may well have been involved in a car crash, but I don't believe it was an "accident."

just a question, does anyone know what the book is on the Piano? because the photo in the top left corner, of the right page looks a little suspicious.
And i've been out of the loop a little.. did anyone ever come to a conclusion about who the man is at the piano, or is it definately George Martin?

It seems it's George M. And why photos, and not sheet music?

It looks like there may be some writing. One of you clever chaps was able to enhance a similar image recently! I tried but to no avail.

it doesn't really look like sheet music at all. it looks like maybe there's some writing, like hand writing.. But i'm still really suspicious about that picture on the top left. we can clearly make out a head, but i can't really see a body..

I tried but to no avail. there's a thread around here or over at tkin about this, I recall the image on bottom right is someone, probably paul, in a garbage can the left page image is if memory serves, a cut out paper ? constuction sculpture ( that's my perception) and two people looking out of it. there's a better image of it some place.

I'm not sure I'm claiming the similarity was intentional, but this: Reminds me of this: Carry on, my droogs. ;D
