I was reading at www.ukdps.com.uk how a British citizen can legally change his/her name. Under the "Why do people change their name?" category at the website the last reason stated is: Entertainers who want to formally use their stage name. Again, the REAL Paul McCartney's REAL first name was John. Faul's first name is James. If they wanted to slip in someone to do the public fronting for Paul--for whatever reason-- they would have what is known in American political and military circles as plausible deniability.

Actually, Paul's real name is James Paul McCartney. I was told years ago that Faul's name was Kenneth Hogan, but I'm not sure of the reliability of the source of that information. Johnny called him Bill. Whether that was his real name, or just a name given him when he took the job, who knows ?

Mommybird, I respectfully disagree. The story that Paul McCartney's real first name is James came out later in the Beatles' career. In order to get a passport, a British citizen needs an original birth certificate. It is implausible to think that they read Paul's name wrong and issued him a passport with John as the first name and that this wasn't picked up by Paul and the media until years later.

Also, as I said before, the Beatles authorized biography has Paul's first name as John and the 2nd. edition published in 1978 also says his first name is John.

I have the 1st printing of the Davies book, and darned if you aren't correct..Chapter three, first words: Paul was born John Paul McCartney on June 18, 1942, in a private ward of Walton Hospital, Liverpool.....I know copies of the birth certificate have been sold on Ebay, don't know if they are trustworthy... Strange that the 1978 version of the book has the "error". (if it is indeed one)

Nobody bothered that there aren't any birth records in the Lancashire Birth Registry Database for Paul McCartney, James Paul McCartney, John Paul McCartney...?? it's strange there is this McCartny, James... but no mentioning of Paul, John or Mildred. Btw; why did the guy who introduced Paul on the Liverpool Sound concert say something like: and now ladies and gentlemen, Sir Paul Mildred McCartney. strange indeed.

I just found this: Pauls daughter..MICHELLE?!!?!!?! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MaccaTwst9Mar 31, 2002, 07:24 PM ok someone sent this to me via e-mail throu a paul-list e-mailing group...I just wanna know wot you all think about this..i'm like FLIPPING over here..because I love Paul to death..and I don't want another chick saying shes hes daughter just to get his money..those kind Piss mee off!!! i'm like soooo freaking out!! i'm like crying, lol omg i'm pathetic, ok here we go ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ENTER MICHELLE McCARTNEY, THE REJECTED DAUGHTER OF BEATLE PAUL McCARTNEY, AS SHE CELEBRATES IN PARIS THE RELEASE OF HER NEW ALBUM. Paris, France 99933390012/C06 Guitar player and singer MICHELLE McCARTNEY celebrated at the Paris's fashionable night club 'Aux Bains Douches' the release of her new musical album MICHELLE, which is going on the stands this month in the U.S. and in most European countries. The natural daughter of musician PAUL McCARTNEY is picking up her father's career in spite of the fact that the former Beatle has not yet recognized her as his daughter, but has accepted to keep an eye on her and on her musical career. Michelle was born from a romantic relationship of Paul McCartney and the French aristocrat Monique La Vallier. They were respectively 17 and 15 at the age she was conceived. The artist, who makes her home in Paris, defines her music style as Hard Rock with a backdrop of pounding and trash-bag rhythm that began in Hollywood where she spent the last fifteen years of her life playing in underground bands as a left-hand guitarist. She moved back to her native France last year and her new album has some songs she wrote and others Teoni L., Patrick LeFerrier and Zenith Leroy, all growing musicians from the underground beat world of Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. Her last concert in America was at the Hollywood Coconut Teaszer this yearr. Her repertory included guitar playing as well as left handed bass, her titled songs, I WANNA BE YOUR MAN and JOHN LENNON's SCREAM were definitely appreciated, so did MICHELLE, MA BELLE, that she sang almost in tears, evoking the fact that her father wrote it thinking about her. Musically Michelle McCartney has a lot of talent, and even if some of the London and Paris musical papers define her performances as 'needing as lot of improvement', her recent link with MADONNA's composer and mixing-king Patrick Leonard, who was with her in Paris to visit for three weeks to foresee future projects, could lead her career to higher standards. Michelle McCartney was born as Michelle Le Vallier in Paris on April 5, 1961 and her birth certificate states that her father is James-Paul McCartney from England. All of her life as a child Michelle grew up ignoring that she was Paul McCartney's daughter. Her mother just used to say, 'You know, Michelle, your father was a very handsome hippy boy I met when I was a teenager. I became pregnant from our short relationship and when I tried to tell him, he was gone and I never saw him again.' Michelle however discovered who her father was when at age 15, she went to pick up her birth certificate and saw her father's name. As she confronted her mother again, Monique was obliged to tell her the truth, and Michelle tried to make contact with her father without success. Growing up Michelle picked up her father's name and felt the need to embrace her father's career but with anger and frustration in her heart. She saw her father in person only once as she cued up for two hours at Bercy Theatre in Paris on October 14, 1993 after McCartney's concert to have his autograph. When she was finally close to her father, and the late Linda McCartney was next to him, Michelle didn't have the courage of telling him 'Dad, I'm Michelle your daughter'. She just took his autograph and with tears in her eyes kissed his chick. Paul McCartney never knew he had seen his daughter for the very first time. Few months later, returning to Los Angeles Michelle took action as she asked the Los Angeles court to oblige her father to recognize her. When Beatle Paul McCartney was approached years ago and asked why he refused to recognize Michelle as his daughter, he simply declared, 'I have had many women in my life who have tried to impose me with the paternity of their children, I simply refuse to cooperate, and I have to protect myself from these ladies.' When he was asked if he remembered to have had a relation-ship with Michelle's mother Monique Le Vallier, Paul said, 'I don't remember, I was so young!'. Back in 1993, when Michelle asked the Los Angeles Court to oblige Paul McCartney to undergo a blood-test that could prove that he is her father, very cleverly Paul slipped out of the U.S. in time not to be served with the legal papers that would have obliged him to pass the test. In respect of her father's recent loss of his wife Linda, Michelle did not pursue her legal action against Paul McCartney, but was determined to bring back the case both in England and in the U.S. to be recognized. Her attorneys both in the U.K. and in Los Angeles have asked McCartney to keep a law profile with the media until this case is in front of the appropriate court. Paul McCartney was already sued by his other illegitimate daughter, the German born Bettina Llubers in 1986. The case was settled between the two parties by mutual out-of-court agreement. Michelle says that she wouldn't settle with her father for money, and would only be happy and satisfied if Paul recognizes her officially. When Michelle's half-sister Stella McCartney was approached last week in Paris at 'Chloe's Design' in Paris, where she works she declared, 'I don't know this lady and I have nothing to say!' . The same thing was repeated in London, as we tried to approach her other half-sister, pottery designer Heather McCartney and Heather's statement was 'I didn't know I have another sister! However Michelle says that her father made finally an approach to her last summer and they finally met. Though the financial matters have not yet been satisfied to compensate Michelle. Michelle says that the few hours she spent with Paul were the happiest hours of her whole life' She concluded 'My father said that he would keep an eye on my career, and that's all for now.' www.beatlelinks.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-8171.htmlIf this is correct, then Paul was going by the name James Paul McCartney in 1961.
I'm still looking for a copy of the actual birth certificate.

I just found this: Thursday, November 15, 1990 - Page updated at 12:00 AM E-mail article Print view Seen, Heard, Said Seen, Heard, Said -- People By Dave Bowman MOVE 'EM OUT: Patti Davis must need dough, and she isn't letting trifling sentimentality get in the way. Two personal letters written to her by her father, Ronald Reagan, while he was in the White House have come on the market for an asking price of $40,000. New Jersey dealer Gary Zimet, who's handling the sale, said Davis has already got her share of the take from a person who bought them from her and sold them to his client. ``It does take gall to sell these letters while your father is still alive,'' Zimet noted. YOU SAY IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY? While we're talking family treasures, the birth certificate of former Beatle Paul McCartney is up for sale and could fetch in excess of $20,000 at auction, a Houston antiques dealer said yesterday. Gallery owner Ray Simpson told Reuters the document was sold by McCartney's stepmother years ago and brought to the Simpson Auction Gallery by a woman representing an anonymous investor. The item will be sold on consignment. The document states that James Paul McCartney was born June 18, 1942, at 107 Rice Lane in Liverpool, England. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19901115&slug=1104326From the Wikipedia: Children James Paul McCartney (b. 18 June 1942) and Peter Michael McCartney (b. 7 January 1944) were both delivered in the Walton General Hospital in Rice Lane, Liverpool, where Mary had previously worked as a nursing sister in charge of the maternity ward.[47] Mary was welcomed back shortly before she gave birth to Paul by being given a bed in a private ward.[5][48] Jim was not present at the birth as he was fighting a warehouse fire, but arrived at the hospital two hours later.[33][49] As Mary was a Roman Catholic and Jim a Church of England Protestant—who later turned agnostic—their children were baptized Roman Catholic but raised non-denominationally, although Mary had married Jim on the promise that any children would be baptised in the Catholic faith. Although registered on his birth certificate as James Paul McCartney, their first son was known as Paul thereafter.[15] Paul and Michael were not enrolled in Catholic schools, as Jim believed that they leaned too much towards religion instead of education.[5] Paul remembers his mother encouraging her children to use the Queen's English and not the Liverpudlian dialect, which was unusual for the area they lived in.[31][39] Michael remembered that Jim had a temper when he was provoked, and that both Paul and he were hit when they were young, but this is refuted by other members of the family.[50] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_&_Mary_McCartneyThis appears to be an extensive biography of the McCartney family.Maybe someone who lives across the pond can contact Walton General Hospital & find out what their records say.

I checked the Lancashire BMD website that thisone posted the link to and I did not find a record for Paul's brother or Paul's mother, and the only listing I could find for Paul's father was a James McCartney in 1901. His father was supposed to have been born in 1902 so my guess is we've got a faulty database here. Back to square one. And as for citations of Paul's first name, I'll try to find old reference books because there obviously has been some fiddling with the facts.

I found some photos of Michelle McCartney, one which says she is the "alleged illegitamate daughter of Paul McCartney". As interesting as they are, it's unfortunate that they can't be enlarged without paying for it. Michelle McCartney (Rex Features)
