Having some problems with my computer. For some reason, everytime I put a CD or DVD into the slot, the computer won't read it. Obviously it has worked before as I have listened to CD's and watched and burned DVD's on it. But I don't know why it won't now.... Anyone know what the problem is?

You might want to go into your computer history and go back to settings from a month ago. (Presuming it was working then.) If that doesn't work, it may well be a hardware problem. Jojo is the man to ask.

Why yes I am! ;D
LB does have a real good idea, a great way of cutting to the chase for ruling out the software issue. Now, does it sound like the drive is spinning and trying to read the information, or is it acting dead in the water? The tray may open and close, but the drive may still have other problems. (although it rules out it not getting power)
I had a cd drive act weird on me once, and just for the heck of it I unplugged the ribbon from the drive to the motherboard (both AT the motherboard and the drive itself) and plugged them back in, and for some reason it fixed the problem. Maybe a connection was loose and getting re-connected helped. If you want to try this, first unplug the power (after shutting down) and then gently wiggle the ribbon loose from the drive, follow it down to where it joins the MB, and do the same there, and then plug them back in at both places. I forgot, you will have to take a side panel off the computer, probably just a couple of screws.. Anyway, if this doesn't help, and neither does the reset to a previous state then.. You've just taught yourself part of the process for re-installing a new drive.. Which may be the only option.

A new computer? Oh well. But put tape over the microphone built into the new one if you don't want Big Brother eavesdropping on you.

and that's not all... They can hear you through your cell phone even when it is turned off! Glad I don't have a contract, and won't be buying many minutes!

I think he means he's getting a new CD drive. Need a cell phone for work, otherwise I wouldn't consider it. (they pick up the tab as well) Mine has the capability to be an evesdropping device, according to the information linked in the article below. From: www.travelbygps.com/articles/tracking.phphe increased demand for enhanced 911 (e911) emergency calling capabilities, stimulated by the events of 11 September 2001, has pushed forward GPS tracking technology in cell phones. In theory, they need a warrant to avail themselves of this tool, but of course we all feel much more comfortable when the process is cumbersome, rather than being as simple as pushing a button... Making the temptation to circumvent that bothersome warrant more tempting.. A double edged sword though because while it may help identify their enemies, they may be shocked and dismayed by how many they have.

Thanks for the link, Jo... Now, here are the instructions... Boy, there's a YouTube for everything these days, huh? ;D Various other cell phone hacks demonstrated on neighboring channels... hehe Disclaimer: Tempting as this may be, I would not endorse downloading ANYthing...BTW, do they still need a warrant? Hasn't it come down to "We're in charge, we can do WhateverTF we want?" You know- it's possible this is buried somewhere in the fine print of the contracts... perhaps many have already unwittingly signed their consent for this... who really reads all that stuff... ?

Does anybody know how to take a video/video clip downloaded from limewire and burn it onto a dvd?

Yes.. You mean you want to watch it on your regular DVD player/TV combo? Well, the shortest path is to buy a machine like this that plays the kitchen sink: www.amazon.com/Philips-DVP642-DivX-Certified-Progressive-Scan-Player/dp/B000204SWEOtherwise, it gets complicated, as you have to convert to another format with one program, and then use a DVD authoring program to make a standard DVD that all players recognize. I have an earlier version of the above machine, really makes it easy, as all you have to do is burn the file to the disk and play.

....this sounds complex. I haven't even been able to get to this step. I am still trying to get the video file to burn onto the blank dvd.
