Quite a conundrum. Been thinking about this a bit lately. I like the freedom we have now; but the industry is teetering. I like to think that time and natural "resorts" iron out these "transition periods" in "the business model", but business never waits it out to see---they act. I resent the notion that I might have to pay every time I want to hear something--hey, I can do without. At he same time I feel for the artists who work their butts off making a fine product---while owing the record company the advance money back , and little hope to recoup because of rampant piracy. I don't mind it when the big companies start to feel the heat and competition from grass roots indie labels. There should be a "middle class" in the music biz, with moderate prices and wide availability. As opposed to 5 gargantuan corporate labels that charge higher $$$ per title and dictate what we are to listen to. I may just settle for show tunes and string quartets and let 'em keep it. God bless the small labels.
