Last night I went to see Brian Wilson. I was prepared for the worst. Brian, coming out on stage drooling and yelling at phantoms, but no; au contraire! He and the band (about 12 other people) did two and a half hours of sound-perfect renditions of Beach Boy hits. They even did "The Little St. Nick" for Pete's sake, and it was just GREAT!

He did two of them, but I don't know their names, as I don't have the album. He just said they were, so that's how I knew. Whatever they were, they were not bad.

Yeah, wish I could have found the time to go to the Lowell performance, and like I told LB when he alerted me that Brian was nearby, I would have been glad to hear nothing but Smile, beginning to end.
While LB was seeing Brian, I saw Don Henley. Don is OK, great storyteller, performer and backed by a stellar band.

A review of the concert LB went to: www.theweekender.com/music/REVIEW__Wilson_rsquo_s_lush_harmonies_at_the_Kirby_11-12-2009.htmlThat only 887 people turned out in the 1,832-seat venue is not something Northeastern Pennsylvania should be proud of. Wilson is not only a living legend — McCartney has said The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band” was influenced by Wilson’s Beach Boys music, and without Wilson there’d be no modern indie-rock movement — he and his band are also performing at a top level. What a shame, but the economy is a lot to blame too I'd think. Same thing happened at the Henley concert, probably half full. But, we got upgraded from nosebleeds to orchestra seats for free.

Exactly. Same thing happened with the concert here. I had bought a ticket for the nose-bleed seats because it was all I could afford: $26.50. Fortunately they moved us all downstairs, and I had a great seat in row V. Unbelievable! The Kirby Center doesn't promote their concerts the way they should. Probably people didn't even know he was coming.

Brian got the monkey off his back, so to speak, once he finally finished Smile & performed it live for the 1st time... 37 yrs late. He's been just fine ever since. Everyone should own Smile. The Brian Wilson Smile Live dvd is also a must-have. It comes with a documentary that tracks the history of Smile from the 60's to the 1st live performance... then you can put on the next dvd & watch the entire show..... amazing stuff.
