Anyone see this 1967 film? It's about a pop singer that makes it big and is manipulated by the church and government who want to turn him into a messianic leader. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privilege_(film)This film was the basis for one of the videos by a current band I've always enjoyed, Sloan. All four members write and sing, some consider them the Canadian Beatles. Also note the Rolling Stones homage at the end of the video.

All four members write and sing, some consider them the Canadian Beatles. Also note the Rolling Stones homage at the end of the video. lynn howell next door neighbor of roky erickson: the guys i liked them all except tommy. tomy was just you know like clementine. they were too weird. tommy really wanted to be some prophet thats what he really wanted to be but he was smart enough to pull that one off. george kinney member of the band the golden dawn: in austin they didnt take tommmy too seriously. they should have. even the old austin hippies tommy was way too far out for them. they didnt like that. tommy made you feel as uncomfortable as shit. ( to paul drummon the interviewerand author of eye mind) you talked to him did you feel uncomfortable? if you search forn lynn howell austin youll come to a john ike walton interview. you should read it all. the end is very interesting. he talks about playing the fillmore (or was it the avalon) and it being terrible. roky was in a bad way. jiw saw later a poster for the next week and it was the pink floyd. it seemed absured to him along with the art which h wae unfamiiar with. pinknfloyd. like a pinko. long hair. one name that sticks out in my mind is owsley-stein. this was later when a lot of people in SF took a massive dose of LSD in the late 60s. phil lesh describes this in his autobiography. its a bit of a mytery because robert hunter mentins in his emaisnto terence mckenna that around the same time he took a very high very pure dose whichnwould inspire the lyric for working mans dead andnamerican beauty. this is another important bit. moby grape the great society quicksilver messenger service these group opened for the elevators whenntheelevators travelled to SF. chet helms was an austin native and around this time comanaged either the fillmore or the avalon along with bill graham. its interesting to note tht the beatles played thir final show of their finalntour inn sannfrancisco.d i might be wrong and i thinkni am because the electric koolaid acid test describes a performance at the cownpalace not candlestick park. in some very imporant ways it doesnt matter. i have seen a video of pinknfloydnorganist talking about syd detuning his guitar for a few songs in SF either to pss people off or as the result of too much acid. maybe both. it seemed like that might have happened a lot. the elevators were there for 3 - 4 months.jiw claims roky and tommy took acid 3 times a day everyday. imagine this for a moment. in the booklet to the easter everywhere cd it mentions in passing how IA had replacement elevators and there were times when the band billed as the elevators werent relrly the elevators but session men playing their songs. im all dressed up in my monkey suit pretending to be something im not. ive always felt there was something absurd about a band like led zeppelin. just from my perspective. jimmy page wss a session man and said he played a lot of yhe 60s yarage rogk guitars uncredited. thats a fascinating idea. couple yhis with those early doors like promotional photos its gives me a weird view into how the rock music machine works. thrres also a woneerful bit about one hit wondrr managers and the bahamas in the intrview. but its talking about IA. 1967 parable of the arable land. mayo thompson eearing a motorcycle policemans uniform.
