Apologies about the image quality on this, as I Am the Walrus film footage online is a bit scarce, and no one seems to use the original film version. They use the redux version that included movie outtakes, and cut out pivotal scenes which would identify who is who.
In this scene (it occurs around 3.11 in I Am the Walrus) -- you can tell that Ringo is the Hippo. They've switched masks. Why? Because of the pinkie ring he's wearing. Go through the original film and check out who's wearing what on their hands.
John does not wear his wedding ring.
George does not wear his wedding ring (that I can tell) and wears a wristwatch on his left hand.
Paul wears a black strapped wristwatch on his right hand.
Ringo wears his wedding ring, and also a pinkie ring on his right hand.
The Hippo is Ringo. You could say he and Paul maybe did a ring job, but i don't think so. I think they just missed or overlooked this detail. Or as it was a film, maybe never thought anyone would notice. If you look on the cover of the album, the Hippo is wearing the same pinkie ring, but a brown strapped wristwatch. The brown actually looks coloured in or enhanced, and scouring through the movie itself I don't see anyone with a brown strapped wristwatch on. It looked like a paint job or manipulation like O.P.D.
What the Youtube versions actually cut out are some key scenes from the original. One being the Hippo in closeup playing bass. The other is longer footage of the Bird, the Rabbit and the Hippo waving their arms on the wall. This lasts a lot longer than implied in any version online.
Will have to break out my VHS version of the movie later on. I don't own the restored DVD for better image quality.
