He was 78. Danelli’s death was confirmed by a friend and archivist of the band, Joe Russo, who shared the news to Facebook. According to Russo, Danelli had health issues that began in 2017, citing the “primary challenges” as coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure, among others. “I hope you will all continue to appreciate his talent and send him your love. Thank you for supporting his various endeavors throughout his career,” Russo’s statement read. “You all made it possible for him to live his dream, which was to be a musician and artist. Blessings to you all.” Rascals guitarist Gene Cornish expressed his grief in a statement shared on social media, writing: “He was my brother and the greatest drummer I’ve ever seen. I am devastated at this moment. Rest In Peace Dino I love you brother.” "There has been much speculation here and in other places that Dino could have been used as a Paul McCartney stand-in or replacement.
I have seen no indication that he ever was, but I can understand why people would have considered it. B

That's the first thing I've ever seen with Dino Danelli in it. I have seen his name mentioned in relation to PID but it's not an avenue I felt the need to go down. My only impression of him was that he was very obscure. I didn't know he'd been on Ed Sullivan and that he was an accomplished drummer. The song even sounds familiar, but it's not a band that I remember. I think his inclusion in the PID mythos is just to create noise. He looks like he would have been too busy to stand in for Faul, but what do I know? Every member of The Rascals could have been replaced at some point.
