kinda sad really.
It's funny that the 'official' story is that because he wasn't a very good drummer.. but those that have heard him play would say that's crap!
Maybe the Beatles said that cause they didn't want to sound rude by saying 'we don't really like him'. Keeping in mind, that he wasn't a friend, he was a guy that they found who had a drum kit at the last minute. Then they met Ringo... they liked him, and as George Harrison said 'with Ringo it clicked'.
Time to get over it Pete!

If I were Pete Best, I still wouldn't be over it. Imagine being kicked out of The Beatles, and then having to watch Beatlemania take off without you. Christ.
Not that I don't love Ringo or think that the band would have been better had Best stayed in it, but I've got to feel for the poor guy.

Ya, well.... I have no doubt that Ringo simply drummed circles around him. I read a quote somewhere that The Beatles never had to record another take because of a mistake by Ringo. Not once. Considering the band in question, I feel sorry for the guy, but hey... those things happen.
hell, I recently broke up my new band by firing the bandleader.! Just took the bass & drum guys & left. Kinda hard to be a bandleader without a band! Those things happen.

I never heard that before about the drum kit. I always thought that Petey was a friend of the boys

Pete Best was the most popular member of the band when he was with the Beatles. Perhaps John was a bit jealous Pete was getting more attention with the females. I remember reading that Pete was the better drummer, but something about his personality crashed with the rest of the band. Maybe the jealousy thing is not too ridiculous. But their "historians" who wrote these bios didn't want them to look bad, but Pete's image a bit tarnished.
My question is, Ringo was in a more popular band than the Beatles with Rory Storme. It seems odd to me that he would leave a popular band for a less popular band. I think there's more to Richard Starkey being part of the Beatles than meets the eye.
Why is he still around? Why was there no threats to his life, as other Beatles were? What is it with Ringo? Something fishy here.

To be fair, depite not being trained as a drummer, Ringo had exceptional timing, rhythm and a unique style that (lets be honest here) is one reason why the Beatles were so fantastic.

I have to agree with LR on this. I've asked the same questions myself.

To be fair, depite not being trained as a drummer, Ringo had exceptional timing, rhythm and a unique style that (lets be honest here) is one reason why the Beatles were so fantastic. Right, and Eyesbleed commented on how when a take during recording was interuppted because of a mistake, it was never due to an error on Ringo's part. I have many boots, and that is quite true. As for the other issue, the fact that he is still around is hardly reason to imply he was somehow involved in some kind of ill intent or protected because he was part of some evil plot. He was in the same boat as the others, obliged to keep it a secret, nothing more.
