Well, this is a branch off my familiy tree, somehow. Interesting they went to so much trouble to establish this one line of Matthew Strickland. Some folks take this whole geneaology thing real serious. It is interesting, but in the end, I guess its a vanity. Still, it shows that your baby's daddy DOES leave his own markers for generations on down the line. members.aol.com/stricklandquery/dnaproject.htmPS, mods, if this is an innappropriate hot-link, I'll be happy to switch it up however to make it not so. I am not sure how. Explain if needed, and I will do so. Thank you. I don't want to breach the rule.

Interesting site, that was a lot of work. My father is into that as well, turns out I'm decended from Newfie fishermen. Pretty hard life and a hard place to live, so it's no wonder they made the trip to Ellis Island. Here's the way it plays out... We don't want to hot link to pics for reasons we already explained. (surruptitious use of someone's resources) We didn't want to hot link to URL's on the old replaced board because that was supposed to be secret. (or semi-secret anyway) Or as some might say, a "secret society", LOL. Well this new board is hardly a secret, so... I guess there's no reason to worry about it, unless the site owners say on their site that they don't want people to do it. One exception: please don't hot link to 60IF. The less said about that place, the better... Hope that helps and sets it down clearly.

Well, at least one gggggrand uncle back in the dark yesterdays was asked to leave England. Exile to America!!!! His crime?
Fathering too many little children out of wedlock........!!!!!!Can you say, "trailer park?" (No offense toward anyone living in one-----home is what you make of it.)
And then there was the descendant that wanted to put the "turkey" on our family crest. Its on there, all right. Gobble, gobble.
We've had our share of dysfunctionals, alcoholics, and one was even nicknamed "Crazy!"( I see that the apples are still falling close to the trees!) But, there were some real fine people in the family, too. I guess its true that our life is mostly what we strive to make of it as individuals. We do our best and not blame our genes. A "pedigree" ultimately buys you nothing unless maybe you are a Rothschild or a Rockefeller; but, honestly, what could be more awkward than to be a "blacksheep" in a noble family? I'd wanna change my name to "Mud."
Kinda related, somewhere on the net I once found an interesting site about Sir Francis Bacon, his life, his linkage to the royal family, and how he, allegedly being a "bastard", was never given full shrift for his supposed "birthright." I will look for this site and post it. Ever close to the throne, yet ever far, it seems his genius thrived in a tenuous position close to the heads of State. Never receiving full recognition, yet never ignored, the force of his pen and ideas may have influenced the Britain of his day far more than if he had actually received the position in government he so yearned for..............

I come from a long line of hillbillies (honestly)....from the hills of North Carolina and East Tennessee. No idea where "we" came from before that. There is at least "one of everything" in the family....including many alcoholics on both sides, and an unusually high number who never married. for some reason, that made me think of the Eagles' song Get Over It....I especially like the line "I'd like to find your whiny inner child and kick its little a**"

On a slightly-related topic, there's a theory that the U.S. Presidential candidate with the most "blue" blood in his veins always wins the election. Who's likely to win this year? Kerry edges out Bush by being slightly closer to royal blood lines. According to infowars.com, the two Skull & Bones candidates are also distant cousins.

Oy Vey! Maybe that is God's purpose for providing certain challenges----overcoming the inner sourpuss!!! I gotta tell you I tussled with my inner sourpuss earlier today. I was just a little sour for about 30 minutes. I went to lunch, had a private lunch including a little talk with myself and some prayer----and, I got better back at work. Sometimes, one just has to stay aware of it. Eternal vigilance over the whining streak!!!! Not always easy!!!! Can't blame any little chromosomes on that one, I tell you. sorry, I meant:

in the words of John R. Cash.... There once was a musical troupe A pickin' singin' folk group They sang the mountain ballads And the folk songs of our land
They were long on musical ability Folks thought they would go far But political incompatibility led to their downfall
Well, the one on the right was on the left And the one in the middle was on the right And the one on the left was in the middle And the guy in the rear was a Methodist
This musical aggregation toured the entire nation Singing the traditional ballads And the folk songs of our land They performed with great virtuosity And soon they were the rage But political animosity prevailed upon the stage
Well, the one on the right was on the left And the one in the middle was on the right And the one on the left was in the middle And the guy in the rear burned his driver's license
Well the curtain had ascended A hush fell on the crowd As thousands there were gathered to hear The folk songs of our land But they took their politics seriously And that night at the concert hall As the audience watched deliriously They had a free-for-all
Well, the one on the right was on the bottom And the one in the middle was on the top And the one on the left got a broken arm And the guy on his rear, said, "Oh dear"
Now this should be a lesson if you plan to start a folk group Don't go mixin' politics with the folk songs of our land Just work on harmony and diction Play your banjo well And if you have political convictions keep them to yourself
Now, the one on the left works in a bank And the one in the middle drives a truck The one on the right's an all-night deejay And the guy in the rear got drafted ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

It's ok Revolver, but political discussions get into a flame war fast and take all the energy of the board and suck it away to that. Nip it in the bud has to be the policy.

Well, OK with peace pipes I offer this: The genealogy of a political figure should be neutral politically; but how we feel about his administration or whether or not he should be reelected is most definitely political.
So, its a good policy here at PWR to avoid those topics and let everyone enjoy their poitical leanings in peace.
But, I was lending credence to the idea that science is saying now that your chromosomal inheritance, from father to father in long continuous lines, may contain certain identifiable markers. I am sure the science has improvements to make. Right now I guess it works to categorize.
An odd thought---what if they get sophisticated it to the point where they can inject purposefully selected genes into your system---that could gradually remake your appearance into the look of the gene donor? A gene cocktail designed to sieze control of your cell growth and remake you into another image?
Fortunately, that has to be way so far off into the Shocking Future.
