I hear cover versions of Beatle songs on the intercom at work, or as some may refer to as Muzak, or even in the lame O tv ads using Beatle music lately. No matter how talented the artist or group is, the music just isn't the same as the real thing.
Perhaps it was the time in which we lived, the timing of the Beatles on the scene, and the passion and talent they put into their music, nobody can reproduce it in a way that's close to the Beatles. Not that it's a newsflash. But alot of the material they wrote and performed were so complex and sophisticated, that it just doesn't seem to bring that magic that the Beatles had accomplished.
Knowing now about PID/PWR, it's especially true that the post 1966 material doesn't have the same passion that was put into it, of course, because the central people in the setting are deceased, and the feelings they felt when they wrote their songs,as well as what they put into the songs, just doesn't radiate from imitators. It's unfair to think anyone could record this music with the same impact or passion.
There are musicians who can create songs that can be reproduced by later artists and can be performed with passion and entertainment. But it's fascinating that the music of the Beatles are unique for them and them alone.
Other great songwriters have written and performed their own songs, and other artists were successful at making hits, like Dylan's songs by the Byrds, or Hendrix, among others.
It was as if the Beatles' music was designed for them alone to be given for the generations. Anyone else trying to perform it just pales in comparison. It's as if a mystical force was behind their music and was only for them. As if anyone else who would try to record it, would not have any success with it. ALmost like a curse to anyone who dared.
Just a curious observance by one who grew up with Beatles' music and also hearing others attempt the songs. Just isn't the same.
