People tend to either forget or never were informed that George Martin is a classically trained pianist. He attended the Guildhall School of Music from 1947-50, where he studied piano and oboe. His oboe teacher was actually Jane Asher's mother Margaret Asher. And in fact, he did play on some of the Beatle's records. More on George: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_MartinHere is video from the Muppet show where Martin plays a tune with Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), and Paddy Moloney (The Chieftains). youtube.com/watch?v=1Fn5gTVyDnM

Garech Browne formed The Chieftains in 1963 and founded Claddagh Records in 1959. The Chieftains often would play at Luggala (the Browne home) and among the many aristocracy, celebrities and musicians that were invited to the parties were the Rolling Stones and Marianne Faithfull. ( See page 66 of this book preview about The Chieftains. Also on page 74 is a brief description of the Chieftains at Abbey Road studios and meeting the Beatles (specifically "Paul McCartney").
Quote from the book, 'The Beatles knew all about The Chieftains music and liked it,' says Moloney. 'They were off the day I was in there, but Paul McCartney came rambling in to see how I was doing and all of a sudden he was talking to me about music. Then John Lennon and Yoko Ono strolled through the studio.'The Chieftains: The Authorized Biography
