I read this at Macca Central: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sir Paul refuses Brit Award
Sir Paul McCartney knocked back the opportunity to receive an 'Outstanding Contribution To Music Award' at this year's Brit Awards.
The former Beatle refused the award on account of the fact that he believes he is too young to receive it and does not want to be perceived as a washed-up has been.
A spokesperson for the Awards ceremony revealed: "We were absolutely stunned.
"Sir Paul felt that if he accepted the gong, people would assume it was the end of his career when he is feeling more creative than ever."
McCartney, who is 64, released his latest LP 'Chaos and Creation In The Backyard' last year

Would he prefer to be a washed up replacement? I'd hardly call him washed up. He's just released his best CD.. maybe ever! Macca's up for CD Album Of The Year at the Grammys.. which, as you know, I just spoofed (The Spammys). and yes he won. I hope he wins for real next month. Don't you?! ;D

I don't think he's finished by a longshot at all. Oh well... ;D it's his choice. Maybe he's just against the idea of seeming like he's too old to rock and roll - it could just be something that bothers him - that people would think that of him. I dunno...

Vagabond, Bill is older than 64. He's at least 70 ( if you go by some of the clues given by the boys in songs post 1966 ). I think that he very much feels his age. I also believe that he is rather eccentric. He has done alot of drugs in his lifetime. Look at what excessive drug use has done to Ozzie. Bill should consider himself lucky that he hasn't wound up like THAT BTW, I'm glad that you're back Girl, you are just TOO good. Those one liners truly are ZINGERS ! IF Bill does get the grammy for Chaos & Cremation, than the person who HELPED him with it deserves just as much credit : Alt-rock producer Nigel Godrich assists the maestro like he helped Beck on Sea Change, with somewhat lighter but no less gorgeous results that hearken back to Abbey Road. I found that in this short article : Paul McCartney Chaos and Creation in the Backyard Capitol "Looking through the backyard of my life/Time to sweep the fallen leaves away," sings Paul McCartney on his latest disc, and he means it: Gone are the throwaway rockers and wince-inducing ballads, replaced here by the former Beatle driving home his undeniable melodic mastery, overdubbing himself on everything but strings, brass and a few percussion bits. Alt-rock producer Nigel Godrich assists the maestro like he helped Beck on Sea Change, with somewhat lighter but no less gorgeous results that hearken back to Abbey Road. Chaos is the McCartney album for folks who swore they'd never take another chance on another McCartney album. www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/8957262?rnd=1138030148812&has-player=true&version=6.0.12.1212
