LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Paul McCartney will be the featured performer in the next Super Bowl halftime show and organizers promised there won't be any breast baring this time.
[...]
This will be McCartney's second Super Bowl appearance. He provided a memorable pregame Super Bowl performance in 2002, the first Super Bowl after the Sept. 11 attacks.
"There's nothing bigger then being asked to perform at the Super Bowl," former Beatle McCartney said in a statement. "We're looking forward to rocking the millions at home and in the stadium."
Watched by more than 144 million viewers in the United States last year, the Super Bowl is the nation's highest-rated TV program and the most-watched single-day sporting event. The game will be broadcast in more than 200 countries worldwide.

This is his perfect chance to announce to the world: "I'm not the real Paul!" Hey, anything's possible now that the Red Sox have won the World Series. ;D

Everyone would think he was kidding around. And pop open another brewski.
Hey, don't mind if I do.
Actually, I think he is "a" Paul McCartney. He became a Macca. That's the hurdle--getting used to the idea that somehow, there have been TWO. 4 years apiece.

I don't remember him playing at a superbowl. I just remember him sitting in the broadcast booth with Terry Bradshaw & them singing She Loves You or something like a couple of drunken-idiot-sailors.
I just don't get these holy-er-than-all-of-you americans at all. It must be just terrible to get the family together to enjoy this display of organized violence & then be forced to see a boobie for 2 seconds. Oh the horror.! These kids are supposed to be learning about violent aggression.!
Maybe I'm just a weirdo, but that makes no sense to me what-so-ever.

Good point, EB. I think I will record the Super Bowl halftime show this year(Lord knows what I missed last hear to see if Faul leaves any clues. Heck, with Ringo putting up 3 fingers for a peace sign on The American Music Awards and Faul leaving clues on "Driving Rain", I would say that this is a definite possiblity.

Alright. Way to go FP! There's somebody else around here who knows as little about football as I do! Yeah, when it comes to sports, I don't know squat. I'm just not really a sports person.

Yeah, when it comes to sports, I don't know squat. I'm just not really a sports person. Ya, me neither. it's a total mystery to my little alien brain. I'm constantly amazed at the lenghts people will go to watch a bunch of guys chase a ball around. ...And I'm from the same high school that's got a movie out about it's football! (Friday Night Lights) Haven't seen the movie yet. 1970 when I was goin' there, it was all-out war between the hippies & the state champion football players! Big fun! ....'cept some hippies got the crap beat out of'em. Too bad that's not in the movie. Now what was this thread about? ...oh ya... superbowl... Looks like I'll have to interrupt the no-football party long enough to see if Faul blurts out any clues.

homepage.mac.com/paul_mccartney/macca_report/news.htmSUPER BOWL SET LIST SPOILER!!!! Paul rehearsed "Drive My Car," "Get Back," "Live and Let Die" and "Hey Jude" (shortened version) McCartney still may surprise fans on Sunday with his final set list. The band is playing live. No lip-synching! No tape delay. Paul will wear a red shirt, black jeans and a black jacket (which he will remove after "Get Back"). "Live and Let Die" will be loaded with fireworks and special effects. _____________________________________________ If we're looking for clues, then does the set list and actions on stage tell a story? Drive My Car--the Beatles song where Paul sang lead. Get Back--presumeably about Linda's husband Joseph and then a transvestite. Then Faul's wardrobe modification--a red shirt with a five-pointed star. Live and Let Die--One has life, another death. And the fireworks extravaganza. Hey Jude--The conventional explaination is it's about separation and divorce.

Wow, he sure looked old. Older than 62.
But that Hey Jude laser show was a pretty slick production.

Well, he couldn't sing Paul's part at all, really. He did his songs well enough for a 67-yr old guy, though Dobbs knows what pitch machines they may have had hooked up.
Live & Let Die - Sir Martin & Sir MCCARTNEY's showy message to the Fab Three to shut up and stop bitching about dead Paul already. Has always been a big production with fireworks, tonight proving no exception.
Hey Jude -- faux-Paul & Yoko's song to Lennon to play Judas to Paul's Christ, to forget about giving the game away and submit wholly to Ono. Interestingly has always brought the audience along (& concomittantly identifying themselves with the words).

Hey Jude yeah, I superimposed that David Frost show video with the camera just feet from his face on top of this one in my mind's eye. Agree that Drive My Car doesn't sound right, and Hey Jude sounds like the same guy, just tired and worn out.

Ha-ha! People actually called the FCC to complain that Faul's halftime performance was boring! (Actually, if you look what everyone is saying, it's the general concensus all around.)
Anyway, I thought the Wings band played very well. There are some really top-notch musicians like Brian Ray and Rusty Anderson (both excellent guitarists). Though, I agree with everyone on how Faul sounded. That old familiar voice, only more worn, on the late Beatle songs, while Drive My Car was definitely lacking.
