WASHINGTON: Sir Paul McCartney spent a day begging for alms in London in disguise. According to Femalefirst, he donned a fake beard and dark glasses and took his guitar to central London. "It was for a film thing and it was something I'd always wanted to do So I scruffed myself up a bit, put on a false beard and shades, and went down to Leicester Square tube station It was really cool," he was quoted as saying. "A couple of people came up and said, 'Is it you?' but I just said, 'Oh, no'. But I got a few shillings and I thought, 'This doesn't feel right' So I gave it to charity ," he added.

www.gigwise.com/news.asp?contentid=7028Paul McCartney Reveals New Album Title by Scott Colothan on 7/4/2005
Sir Paul McCartney has announced that his new album will be called ‘Chaos and Creation in the Backyard’.
The album is the follow-up to 2001’s ‘Driving Rain’ and is scheduled for release this autumn.
Fresh from wowing crowds at Live 8 with his Beatles medley over the weekend, Macca quashed rumours that it would be a double album, telling Radio 1: "I have two albums worth going at once."
As ananova reports, the legendary Beatles frontman has been working with Nigel Godrich on the album – famed for his work with Radiohead, Travis and the recent Live Aid single.
Macca is set to debut the album to audiences when he kicks off a lengthy North American tour in Florida on September 16.

tinyurl.com/b9gjlMcCARTNEY CHALLENGED BY NEW ALBUM'S PRODUCER SIR PAUL McCARTNEY battled with maverick producer NIGEL GODRICH over his new solo album, because the former RADIOHEAD mogul refused to refrain from criticising him.
McCartney appeared at the London Live 8 gig on Saturday (02JUL05) fresh from the studio where he and Godrich have been working on CHAOS AND CREATION IN THE BACKYARD - the former BEATLE's first studio release in four years.
Godrich was recommended by former Beatles producer SIR GEORGE MARTIN - and the singer has found his no-nonsense attitude refreshing.
The pop legend says, "People get a little sycophantic around me, but Nigel was the opposite.
"He'd dismiss my rough demos out of hand if he didn't like them. He was quite cheeky. He took me out of my comfort zone and really tested me. There were awkward moments but we never came to blows." 05/07/2005 01:55 e

Confusion over McCartney show LAGUNA BEACH, California: Was Paul McCartney supposed to play at a concert benefiting victims of the Bluebird Canyon landslide?
An event organiser claims the former Beatle promised to perform over the weekend, but the entertainer's publicist, Paul Freundlich, said on Wednesday that McCartney never planned to appear.
The confusion started when organiser Andy Alison said he delivered a flower basket and an invitation to McCartney at his music label, Capitol Records, on June 23.
The real estate agent heard that McCartney and his wife had stayed at the Montage Resort & Spa in Laguna Beach and were familiar with the area. Also, McCartney's post-Beatles band, Wings, had a song called "Bluebird."
City officials said they were under the impression McCartney wished to help the victims when a city employee received a call from a man who said he worked for Capitol Records. The man never called back, City Manager Ken Frank said.

McCartney wants to get the best out of himself. It's easy to get self-indulgent, and even "too safe" if everyone around you tells you "yes, that was marvelous" to every artistic choice you make. Macca exists in that tier of rock performers where seldom other people dare express reservations or criticisms to your face. At this career phase, It'd be easy for anyone to be lackadaisical. I see why Godrich was his choice.
And, away from the rock and roll recording world, professional actors are known to say, "Never direct yourself; always strive to give the director your best work. "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17)
As far as dressing down to hit the streets as a beggar-----maybe there was something he needed to know, or needed to feel from the experience.
As far as the press? Well, maybe he likes press a lot, someone made that point. Who knows? I can't say that isn't so. But, I can observe, that the press seems to write about him even when he buys a set of guitar strings or gets a haircut. Or has dinner and a glass of wine or two. It's like, the press hound him, too.
On another point, I find the title of the new album intriguing. ‘Chaos and Creation in the Backyard’. Like, creative forces and destructive forces are very close to everybody's personal life. And they can operate side by side. Even if they are out of sight, not in the frontyard.......Almost a reminder to the listener to stay tuned into what goes on right around them.
But, always, the little things we see written:
"Macca quashed rumours that it would be a double album"........!......."but he has two albums worth going at once"..........?
........but, I musn't take Scott Colothan out of context. I presume that means he has made enough material to release two CD's, but he plans to release only one CD's worth for the time being. So, there may be yet even one more macca album down the pike..............

The title "Chaos and creation in the backyard" reminds me of a quote by Timothy Leary which was used as an intro tape on the 1998 TOOL tour:
"Think for yourself Question authority
Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.
Think for yourself. Question authority."
I think it points to the idea that only when we realize that the authorities also don't have a clue, we can become free to create the world we want to live in. As long as we believe people outside of ourselves have all the answers and will protect us we have excuses to remain passive , so we are being lived instead of really living.
"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation"-Oscar Wilde
"Think for yourself, Question reality...and especially freaks like Leary and Valis"-Jan

"Chaos & Creation in the Backyard" reminds me of the story on how JPM was planning to make his garden into a representation of the tarot deck... never got the chance apparently.

A Beatles cover band comprised of backing members of Bill's apres Beatles group.. OK, that's different. I almost want to see them more than Bill.. www.dailyherald.com/news/kanestory.asp?id=75642Arcada rocks way back
Wings members, Beatles tribute fill seats for return
By Mark Foster Daily Herald Correspondent Posted Thursday, July 21, 2005
It was a hot night Wednesday at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, in more ways that one.
Beatles tribute band American English and members of Paul McCartney’s other band, Wings, rocked the 1926 theater building to its foundation.
Some buzz was generated earlier in the day that McCartney might make an appearance to join his old bandmates. Although that didn’t come to fruition, audience members twisted and shouted their appreciation, even as they sweated in a theater that had lost its power and air-conditioning earlier in the day.
The concert was the first event at the Arcada since Chicago-based Onesti Entertainment Corp. took over management of the theater. The outfit demonstrated its ability to put paying customers in nearly all 900 seats.
Ron Onesti, president of the company, stood on the stage and thanked audience members for coming to the show and putting up with the heat.
Beatles cover band American English fills the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles Wednesday night at the first concert since the theater came under new ownership.
“The popcorn was popping in the concession stand and the machine wasn’t even on,” Onesti quipped.
American English, one of many acts in Onesti’s stable of entertainment, proved extremely popular with the crowd composed primarily of baby boomers.
After American English’s 18-song set, original Wings members Denny Laine, Howie Casey, Steve Howard and Thaddeus Richard joined the group to play a few Beatles tunes before delving into Wings numbers.
Wings was co-founded by Paul and Linda McCartney and Laine, who also was an original member of The Moody Blues.
“Original band members of Wings have come from across the nation and England for this show,” Onesti said earlier this week.
Onesti told the audience he plans to stage more live musical events at the theater.
American English started the concert attired in the trim black suits of the Beatles’ early mop top era, blazing through favorites including “I Saw Her Standing There,” “Please, Please Me,” “Help!” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.”
As Paul, John, George and Ringo, the band members played their parts to the hilt, with plenty of banter among themselves and the signature Beatles bow at the end of each number.
As the show progressed into the psychedelic era, the band members changed into the colorful costumes of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, ending the first set with “A Day in the Life.”

I guess it shows that he still want's to do things differently. I think it's maybe a little unusual. I guess it's something that will get him in the news, but maybe he really enjoyed doing it. I read an article online..or somewhere, that Sting did the same thing once. I think it was an article he did with Bob Geldof for Q Magazine. People recognised him as well. It seems kinda eccentric. Or is that just how it's supposed to look? Anyways, it's harmless. I think his next CD's gonna be really good. It sounds that way.

Showed up in my Google news clipping email, only because it has the "McCartney" keyword, but still interesting, never heard of this guy before: www.nme.com/news/113110.htmLONG JOHN BALDRY 1941-2005
British blues man LONG JOHN BALDRY has died aged 64.
The singer had been fighting a chest infection for four months and passed away yesterday (July 22) at Vancouver General Hospital in British Columbia, Canada, BBC News reports.
Baldry had a single number one hit in 1967 with ’Let The Heartaches Begin’, but had been sighted as a strong influence on Eric Clapton, and was friends with Sir Paul McCartney.
A pioneer of British rock n roll, Baldry performed during the early days at the Cavern in Liverpool before going on to work with the likes of Rod Stewart and Elton John, both of whom appeared on his solo album ’It Ain't Easy’.
Emigrating to Canada in 1991, Baldry became know for his voice over work and in 1998 won a Grammy nomination for his Disney narration.
He continued to record solo albums, and also played the voice of Sonic The Hedgehog’s nemesis Dr Robotnik in the video game.

This is too funny, you have to wonder if this is for real: tinyurl.com/cw5vzSCISSOR SISTER PAYS TRIBUTE TO McCARTNEY
SCISSOR SISTERS frontman JAKE SHEARS was so touched by a dream he had about SIR PAUL McCARTNEY he felt inspired to write a new song.
The LAURA singer saw such vivid images of himself sitting down to pen a new track with the legendary ex-BEATLE, he couldn't shake the desire to capture the song still ringing in his head for posterity.
A source says, "Jake had a strong feeling about it and Paul inspired a great new track. He was so excited to meet Paul at (the London leg of) Live 8 that he told him to listen out for the music." 27/07/2005 01:27

www.nme.com/news/113159.htmMACCA TEAMS UP WITH RADIOHEAD MAN PAUL McCARTNEY found working with RADIOHEAD producer NIGEL GODRICH reminded him of his glory years in THE BEATLES. Godrich, who, as well as working on the classic 'OK Computer', is famous for producing the likes of Beck and Travis, has produced McCartney's first studio album in four years, 'Chaos And Creation In The Back Yard', due out on September 12. McCartney told NME.COM how during the album sessions that followed last year's triumphant Glastonbury headline slot, Godrich forced him to work harder and challenged him in a way similar to when he was working with his old bandmates John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. He said: "It was more like working with a band than a producer…It's pretty hard to live up to John and George. Working in a band like The Beatles we had four votes, so if Ringo didn't like something John and I brought in he got to vote it out. Which I suppose is very democratic. And in the same way Nigel had that same vote." He continued: "I've produced a lot of records, been on a lot of Beatles records, Wings records, on my own, I've had a lot of hits. He said 'I just want to make a great album, and for the album to be you', Once we got in the studio, and we're playing head to head on a couple of songs that I thought as good and he didn't, I thought of immediately firing him. I just thought, 'I don't have to take this'. But the point is, 'This is why you're working with him'." As the relationship developed, McCartney started to take Godrich's advice on board. He continued: "He'd be like 'Look, I've got to tell you that I don't like this', and I said 'What don't you like about it?'. He'd say 'You've done better than that'. In the end I started to value that more, it's what I need. We kept the standard up that way, but we had our moments." But he's been pretty careful overall from what I can tell. How many people could really pull this off for so long? If the truth ever really does come out in the open...Bill should get an Oscar. I noticed that Bill mentioned it by saying that he'd been on a lot of Beatles records..that sounds like an odd way to say it. It does seem like something "slipped" at that moment. Then add to that, the comment he made on the taped acceptance of the award on the Grammys. Then add the little clue in Rinse the Raindrops. Seems to me, he's tryin' to push the boundries a little with the ol'clues. He seems to really enjoy this whole clue thing.

He seems to really enjoy this whole clue thing. That's what I'm wondering. Maybe he's decided nobody can ever prove it, and anybody who takes it seriously will be laughed at..he could be getting a little teensy bit lazy about letting his guard down. Most people think it's a hoax. I wonder if anybody would even take him seriously if he admitted it openly and outright..just speculating. Or maybe it's just unintentional and he's just not being careful.
