This doesn't jump out at you as a clue, so I'm putting it here. Still it could be something, Arnold Layne steals clothes from a clothesline to to get a different "look". First, the lyrics: Arnold Layne by Syd Barrett Arnold Layne had a strange hobby Collecting clothes Moonshine washing line They suit him fine On the wall hung a tall mirror Distorted view, see through baby blue Oh, Arnold Layne It's not the same, takes two to know Two to know, two to know Why can't you see? Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne Now he's caught - a nasty sort of person. They gave him time Doors bang - chain gang - he hates it Oh, Arnold Layne It's not the same, takes two to know Two to know, two to know Why can't you see? Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne Don't do it again And the video: www.jojoplace.org/Shoebox/arnoldlayne1.mpg

I too noticed that they seemed to mimick the Beatles. For example, when they're at the Beach running around or walking together off the dock and over the hill. Anything else one might interpret may be purely subjective, though... Consider the end where one might illustrate that the manikin is lieing on the ground like a corpse and they pick him up, remove the head and carry the him as would pallbearers. Or were they were just acting out a clever way to end the film...

How could that NOT be in some way, allusion to the Beatles?
Seems like these ideas go pretty far back......
But, is someone in prison? Or prison metaphor (they gave him time) and all the women's cothes----just the idea of dressing up glam? or--something else.......

Syd is the one holding the head. There is a rarer alternate video of "Arnold Layne" where Syd shouts the line" Why can't you see" standing in front of a river or bay. Ever wonder why David Gilmour (Syd's replacement) was chosen to be in Faul's Return to the Cavern band? Syd's last public words, the final sentence in a 1971 interview for Rolling Stone: "I am not anybody you think I am."
