The comic strip Doonesbury has been doing a bit this week about "Jimmy Thudpucker" who has just switched record labels, "Burger King Records" to be exact. Read it here. I always suspected this character was based on Sir Paul, and now there can be no doubt.. His "bio" is here. Much like McCartney, he went into hiding for most of the 80's: Indeed, such was his ambivalence about fame that he retired following 1979's "Greatest Hits" Pacific Basin tour. In a move that stunned associates and inspired at least several other musicians, he returned to college, where he majored in English.
Thudpucker emerged from retirement only twice in the '80s, both times for a worthy cause; he issued "Egg Man," a tribute album for murdered pal John Lennon, and in 1985, was lured by Michael Jackson to Quincy Jones' studio to contribute five key words to the legendary "We Are The World" session. Typically, JT followed through on this commitment by traveling to Addis Ababa on behalf of USA for Africa, before returning to family life. This part is weird though, what do you think? Thudpucker burst out of sessionman obscurity and onto the national scene in the late '60s with a heart-stopping performance at Newport...

Wow, I've read Doonesbury for years and I never suspected that Jimmy Thudpucker was a parody of Paul McCartney. I guess the tribute album to John Lennon should've made it obvious, though...

Ha, I no sooner say that JT is a Paul McCartney parody, when this runs in the paper today: Then again, McCartney is put on the table, another way of looking at it..

He looks a lot like a blond, older JPM, or Angela Lansbury.

If that is supposed to be contemporary, he's much too young to be JPM.
