I love that song, but never like the movie.Anyway is very weird the words of that song.Something about Paul? Why all the Monkees committed suicide at the beginning of the movie? Lyrics; My, my the clock in the sky is pounding away There's so much to say A face, a voice, an overdub has no choice And it cannot rejoice
Wanting to be, to hear and to see Crying to the sky
But the porpoise is laughing good-bye, good-bye good-bye, good-bye, good-bye
Clicks, clacks Riding the backs of giraffes for laughs is alright for a while The ego sings of castles and kings and things That go with a life of style
Wanting to feel, to know what is real Living is a lie But the porpoise is waiting good-bye, good-bye Good-bye, good-bye, good-bye Good-bye, good-bye, good-bye Good-bye, good-bye, good-bye

It's from "Head" (1968) with Frank Zappa. I may have mentioned that song here before. I' had made a lot of notes about The Porpose Song (monkees' andser to I am the Walrus") in any case.

Head is an LSD soaked film that doesn't make a bit of sense. It isn't supposed to make any sense. So why not have the Monkees commit suicide at the start of the movie instead of at the end of the movie? I don't think that has any significant meaning... it's just tripped out weirdness for weirdness sake. GREAT song too. Head's an excellent cd, but I think The Porpoise Song is one the best tracks on there

Video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cw43gz5KQ90The opening is essentially a flash forward to the movie's end ( Easy Rider did something similar a year later) when the scene is repeated, but it has a double meaning of the "real" monkees being chased off (see the 1967 MMT cartoon chase scene panel that includes a faceless Michael Nesmith character and a giant glass globe spilling water) into a watery mass "suicide" and by implication being replaced with a new set of monkees (fonkees?) for the rest of the film. "Wanting to feel/To know what is real/Living is a lie"
