Ilras sent this to me, and tracked down the lyrics, quite interesting: SONGThe lyrics in French: Il a neigé sur Yesterday by Marie Laforêt
Good Bye Hello Good Bye
It snowed on Yesterday The evening when they were left The fog on the sea fell asleep And Yellow Submarine was absorbed And Jude only lives, a cottage with Chelsea John and Paul I believe are only With which it wrote The old Pepper sergeant lost his medals With the last refrain of Hello Good Bye Hello Good Bye
It snowed on Yesterday The evening when they left us Penny Lane today has two children But it rains on the island of Wight in spring. Eleonor Rigby with the four musicians Separately come to see you When they pass to Dublin You to speak about Michele The beautiful one of the tender years Of these words which go so well together
It snowed on Yesterday The evening when they were left Penny Lane it is already far now But never it will not have a white hair. It snowed on Yesterday This year there even in summer By gathering these flowers Lady Madonna trembled But it was not cold It snowed on Yesterday This year there even in summer By gathering these flowers Lady Mac Donald trembled But it was not cold It snowed on Yesterday This year there even in summer By gathering these flowers Lady Madonna trembled But it was not cold It snowed on Yesterday

Does it sound like TWO people went away forever?

Her music career (1960-1970's) intersected with that of the Beatles. Could she be "Michelle" instead of Silvie? This song seems to imply some kind of personal connection to Paul.

Something personal perhaps about:
You to speak about Michele The beautiful one of the tender years Of these words which go so well together
This one says CLUE:
The old Pepper sergeant lost his medals With the last refrain of Hello Good Bye Hello Good Bye
I guess this makes it obvious that this song post dates Pepper.

Hmm well.. none of Sylvie's songs (that I know of) approached 'on the nose' as closely as this one, especially linking it with the mention of "Michelle" in the above song: LINK Marie Laforêt MANCHESTER AND LIVERPOOL
Manchester and Liverpool I am re-examined strolling along the streets In the medium of this crowd Among these thousands of unknown Manchester and Liverpool I from went away in all the lost corners By seeking this beautiful love That close to you I had known
I love you, I love you That I like your voice Who said to me I love you, I love you And me I believed in it so much and more
Manchester is of mood sad Liverpool comes to cry over the sea I do not know any more if I exist The white boats fear the winter Manchester is under the rain And Liverpool is not found any more In the fog of today The love him also was lost
I love you, I love you I listen to your voice Who said to me I love you, I love you And I will never believe in it againManchester et Liverpool Je me revois flânant le long des rues Au milieu de cette foule Parmi ces milliers d'inconnus

Perhaps Mme. Laforet wrote or sang it bin the stead of someone else. Sylvie's thoughts thru her lips?

The translation is always so choppy < sigh >. Well, the references to The Beatles are unmistakeable. Whether she was given that song to sing by Sylvie, who knows ? At least these are blatant clues. I sometimes find it hard putting credence in songs written & sung by others.

Was she around when the real Sylvie was famous, early 1960's? Or was she a counterpart to Fylvie?

Apparently she was singing "Il a Neige sur Yesterday" as late as 1977. cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4828231652It would be helpful to get release dates for these songs. IANSY is credited to a "Paul Mauriat" as writer. Most of SYLVIE & Johnny's interesting songs were credited to a "Georges Aber."...

I found this on the French wikipedia:
It snowed on Yesterday (Words Michel Jourdan /Musique Jean-Claude Petit - Tony Rallo ) [ 03' 16 "] P.1977
They describe the song as a tribute to the Beatles. She was born in 1939.

Tried using my rusty French skills to try to convey the meaning of some of the phrases a little better. Some guesswork involved, a disclaimer..
It snowed on Yesterday The evening when they left The fog on the sea slept And Yellow Submarine was absorbed (or swallowed up) And only Jude lives in a cottage in Chelsea John and Paul I believe are the only ones about which it is written Old Sergeant Pepper lost his medals With the last refrain of Hello Good Bye Hello Good Bye
It snowed on Yesterday The evening when they left us Penny Lane today has two children But it rains on the island of Wight in the spring. Eleonor Rigby with the four musicians Came separately to see you When they pass to Dublin You speak of Michele The beautiful one of tender years Of these words which go so well together So well together
It snowed on Yesterday The evening when they left Penny Lane it is already far away now But she will never have a white hair. It snowed on Yesterday This year even in summer By gathering these flowers Lady Madonna trembled But it was not cold It snowed on Yesterday This year even in summer By gathering these flowers Lady Mac Donald trembled But it was not cold It snowed on Yesterday This year even in summer By gathering these flowers Lady Madonna trembled But it was not cold It snowed on Yesterday

A dirge to the late Paul & Sylvie(aka Michelle) who met their end in southern France.

IANSY is credited to a "Paul Mauriat" as writer. Most of SYLVIE & Johnny's interesting songs were credited to a "Georges Aber."... Didn't the Paul Mauriat orchestra do the song "Love Is Blue" that was a hit in the U.S. in about 1968? If so, the title surely is a reference to "the bluebird" Sylvie. It was an instrumental, but later some cheesy lyrics were sung to it by people like Andy Williams. If I find them, I'll post. www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/1056656/a/Love+Is+Blue.htmHere they are: "Blue, blue, my world is blue, blue is my world now I'm without you Gray, gray, my life is gray, cold is my heart since you went away Red, red, my eyes are red, crying for you alone in my bed Green, green, my jealous heart, I doubted you and now we're apart When we met how the bright sun shone Then love died, now the rainbow is gone Black, black, the nights I've known, longing for you so lost and alone

Reading those lyrics makes my heart hurt. I don't know why. I have no doubt in my mind that Paul & Sylvie were star-crossed lovers. I know that they were driven apart when she was forced to Marry Johnny Hallyday. I have no doubt in my mind that Paul's heart was broken. He tried to recover, but I don't know if he ever did.

I had the same reaction when I read them, Lili. They didn't sound so cornball-y when they weren't being sung by Andy Williams.
