I was reading the book, THE BEATLES THE FABULOUS STORY OF JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE AND RINGO, and the author Rob Burt was discussing Beatle songs. For STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER, he said: "John based his song around the reality/unreality of a mental institution outside Liverpool." I've heard that Strawberry Fields was an orphanage or a Salvation Army youth hostel, but this is new. Has anybody else heard this interpretation?

You (all) won't believe this, but I was checking other video sharing sites for Beatle films, and I just came across a video on Yahoo titled "News Stories About The Rumor Paul McCartney Had Died in 1966." They had an unidentified news reporter who said that Strawberry Fields was a graveyard on a hillside overlooking Liverpool. That is the first time I had heard that. Just to add-- the news reporter thought that Paul had been close to death, recovered and that the PID material was John's cynical joking.

I'll be more than happy to believe you if you just found the video on a site and posted the link immediately, I'm sure you must have it in your internet history. If not use real player, you can capture online videos and save them to your hard drive.

Let me explain.... I don't have a home computer; I use the local library's computer, so if someone can tell me a no-cost way to provide a link, I will be more than happy to. I'm not going to lecture but if anyone goes to video.yahoo.com, they can find that video.

The Australian reporter in the video DID indicate that Strawberry Field was a cemetery, but he acknowledged that it was *also* a children's home, which is how Lennon described it. In fact, that's how it's always described: beatles.ncf.ca/strawberry_fields_orphanage_closes.htmlI was there (Strawberry Fields) in 1994, and I have no recollection of a cemetetry. Of course, I could have missed it, as the gate was locked and I couldn't see very much, but I do find it odd that this Australian news report is the only place that seems to associate Strawberry Field with a cemetery. Anybody with first hand knowledge of Strawberry Field care to pipe up on this?

I tried to check for mental institutions outside Liverpool, but WHERE outside Liverpool?? There are 11 cemeteries in and near Liverpool and 4 in Lancashire. I tried Google Earth to see if I could find one on a hill, but it's just inconclusive. Somebody live in or near Liverpool?

I was trying to get more information on Liverpool cemeteries, and I happened across www.merseyside.com. In the Quick Intro on the homepage they say: "Strawberry Fields cemetery also lies within the city." I still would like to know where.
