Hi people. New member. Posted this topic on the TKIN forum but there appears to be little traffic on there so put it here as well.
I haven't investigated the PID story as thoroughly as others but one thing has always struck me as unusual. To me it seems obvious that the performer at Shea Stadium '65 is Faul (Billy Campbell, or whoever he is). It's the same person who appears on the Sgt. Pepper album anyway. It surprises me that nobody seems to mention this. Have a look on Youtube and tell me what you think. But don't watch the "Raw" videos because the Beatles' faces have been compressed here, I suppose for obvious reasons.

I've seen no evidence of that at all! 5 - Beatles at Shea Stadium - I Feel Finewww.youtube.com/watch?v=PA9ZijBfYHgIn any case, the person who appears on Sgt Pepper is partially drawn in, if you look carefully. Who knows who that person is? At TKIN beatlepaul said that the person on Sgt. Pepper is a blend of Paul and Faul. In any case, I am guessing you are too young to remember the actual performance, because no one who remembers the real Paul would ever make such a claim, imo. Welcome, btw.

Thank you Letter B and Jude, I appreciate your replies. I understand that there will be some resistance to this idea, particularly by some of the older Beatles fans who may have even witnessed this concert or viewed the later coverage on TV. Certainly this is an iconic performance by the Beatles and people would not like to consider that there may have been a stand-in there.
I still hold the view though, that this is Faul performing. You can tell, IMO, just by looking at his face. I wouldn't make this claim arbitrarily, I've watched most of the other concerts on Youtube and there is nowhere else that I've seen a sustitute for Paul perform live.
This concert is the ideal place to try out a sub. They're only on for half an hour, they're a long way away from the audience and you'd have diffiuculty hearing them above the screams so errors would go unnoticed. They never tried it again though, not live anyway.
Other than the facial differences there are other reasons. Have a look at the lanky figure of Faul as they run out, the uncoordinated wave by Faul to the crowd, similar to his wave I think in the Sgt Pepper video? One way of telling the difference between Paul and Faul is the lack of physical rhythm of Faul and he moves around on stage and plays his bass like Faul, not Paul who had good rhythm.
After the first number, Twist and Shout and when introducing Baby in Black, John throws to Faul who doesn't reply and walks away looking decidedly nervous and John has to direct attention elsewhere. I'd be nervous too performing in front of a crowd like that for the first time! In one shot there's also a nervous-looking Brian Epstein by the stage, hoping they can pull this off.
In the footage from the dressing-room before they go out there's a shot of Faul messing up his hair, a direct mimic of an earlier promotional video for the Beatles where Paul does this. Faul has done his homework, no doubt about that.
I apologise for the fact that I have no links, but my computer skills are limitted, and I'll have to work on that.
