If you mean the SEARCH function, it hardly works. It no longer bothers to look for four letter words or less, so it's useless for things like PAUL, YOKO, ONO, JOHN, and such. You can't look up "MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR"; only "MAGICAL MYSTERY". Then, there are times when you might want to look for something, and it will say 70 results found, but only show 15 of them. It sometimes shows the rest on another page. Other times not. Then there are times when it will show all of them. So yes, it sucks, and it barely works. See my post below for how to make it work.[/color]

Yeah it's a ghost of its former self. Used to be I could find threads just based on the file name of a pic I posted, ('cause I'd always remember that) but not anymore. I suspect those searches cost Proboards CPU cycles, and they decided to make it as useless as possible.. Sucks for a board with a lot of stuff to search, such as this one.

What about the Search This Thread function?

Searching just one thread isn't what a lot of people need, not enough. However, I did stumble across a workaround.. Instead of searching the entire forum, just search one board at a time, gives the search function much less to digest at once. This way, you can go back 2000 days, and also.. DON'T try for 100 hits, it just gives an error, 50 seems to work.
I was looking for an old thread about Dick Clark, and was able to find it using this method. (thread started five years ago) In other words, search just General, and then just Clues, etc.
Hope this helps.

Well I know how much it can bother people to have a message board cluttered with repeat topics. I do what I can with the search function and with a manual search of certain things to little or no avail.
Therefore, I apologize in advance for if/when I post something that has been discussed before, considering I'm rather new around here.

Here's how to use the Search function here. 1. Click on Search; enter the words you are looking for (more than four letters, or it won't work) 2. Click on "Check all" to uncheck all topics! 3. Click on the sections you think will most likely contain what you're looking for. 4. At the bottom, in the Posted within the last: section, enter 20 for hours, and 2000 for days. 5. For maximum results, choose at least 100. 6. Hit the Search button at the bottom of the page. 7. The search engine will look for a while, and FAIL!Then the following will occur: a. You will lose your connection to this site or b. You will get a message saying that the search took too long, and proboards has been notified. 8. Repeat steps 1 - 6. This time it will usually work. If not, three times is the charm.

Might it be a good idea for these tips to be pinned? I haven't made many posts because I've been poring through past topics. It might cut down on the clutter if all newer members could easily access and utilize this strategy. Here's how to use the Search function here. 1.
