What is Bagism? "What’s Bagism? It’s like...a tag for what we all do, we’re all in a bag ya know, and we realised that we came from two bags - I was in this pop bag going round and round in my little clique, and she was in her little avant-garde clique going round and round, and you’re in your little tele clique and they’re in their...ya know? And we all sort of come out and look at each other every now and then, but we don’t communicate. And we all intellectualize about how there is no barrier between art, music, poetry... but we’re still all - I’m a rock and roller, he’s a poet... So we just came up with the word so you would ask us what bagism is, and we’d say WE’RE ALL IN A BAG BABY!"

The Beatles spent the Summer and Fall of 1966 fending off angry, thickheaded Christians because of John's 'more popular than Jesus' remark; the very next thing they did was make Sgt. Pepper. Given the circumstances, should anyone be surprised to find a wealth of Biblical mockery on Pepper and in subsequent work? -j P.S. That's the baby Lancaster ;D

So we have Lewis Carroll on the cover of Sgt. Pepper, we have at least two songs on Pepper that parody his Looking Glass story, and one of those songs calls the story out by name. The action in Carroll's story takes place on a giant chess board. Alice starts as the White Queen's pawn and moves from square to square until she reaches the eighth square, where she becomes a queen. At the seventh square she meets a knight who wears a peculiar box: `I see you're admiring my little box.' the Knight said in a friendly tone.In the image below, taken from Pepper's inner gatefold photo, you can see that George wears a little box on his uniform: On the front cover of Pepper, George has a "mane" on the back of his head: On the back cover he holds his fingers in an "L" shape, symbolic of the way the knight, or horse, moves on the chessboard. John made a pun about this in Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite when he said, "Henry the Horse dances the waltz." The waltz dance step is "L" shaped. A horse that dances the waltz is a knight on a chess board. If this is not enough to convince you that George plays the role of a knight on Sgt. Pepper, consider this: In 1974, George released an album that is remarkably suggestive of Sgt Pepper, and he called it Darkhorse: The game is chess. To quote John again, "You can learn how to play the game. It's easy. All you need is LOVE." Now consider the movements of the major chess pieces: knight, queen, bishop, and rook. L = Knight, can only waltz O = Queen, able to circle the board V = Bishop, diagonal E = Rook, straight lines -j An Alphabet A is for Parrot which we can plainly see B is for glasses which we can plainly see C is for plastic which we can plainly see D is for Doris E is for binoculars I’ll get in five F is for Ethel who lives next door G is for orange because we love to eat when we can get them because they come from abroad H is for England and (Heather) I is for monkey we see in the tree J is for parrot which we can plainly see K is for shoetop we wear to the ball L is for Land because brown K is for Venezula where the oranges come from N is for Brazil near Venezuela (very near) O is for football which we kick about a bit T is for Tommy who won the war Q is a garden which we can plainly see R is for intestines which hurt when we dance S is for pancake or whole-wheat bread U is for Ethel who lives on the hill P is arab and her sister will V is for meW is for lighter which never lights X is for easter–have one yourself Y is a crooked letter and you can’t straighten it Z is for Apple which we can plainly see This is my story both humble and true Take it to pieces and mend it with glue

IXI just discovered that the Greek name of Jesus Christ is spelled IhsouV CristoV. This means that his initials are the Greek letters " I" (iota) and " X" (chi). His monogram, or "sign," is formed from the superimposed first initials ("I" and "X") of his name. The initials of his name also happen to be Greek Numerals. The Attic Greek Numeral "I" has a value of "1" and the Numeral "X" has a value of "1,000." The product of the two numerals is therefore = 1000 units. If the circle holding his sign is assigned a circumference of 1,000 units, the diameter of the circle by calculation is 318 units, which is the gematria value of Helios ('hlioV), the Sun. This is just one of the many examples you will find in this book of how the Greeks used gematria to equate Jesus Christ with the Sun. The sign of Jesus Christ has decorated Christian religious objects and churches throughout the world from the 1st century to the present. www.jesus8880.com/chapters/gematria/ix-sign.htm Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun.

All of it, or just what P(D) posted in the reply above yours?
He's just saying that the lines that converge over Faul's heart that Feeble Simpleton drew correspond to the intersecting "I" and "X" that is a symbol for the name of Jesus Christ. The implication, then, is that Faul is standing in the place of Jesus Christ.
The 12 degree angles of the red and black lines are defined by the alignment of the cors anglais instrument that Faul holds with the lettering on the drum, the B and P, while the yellow line is perpendicular to the bottom of the picture.

I spent quite some time reading this interesting thread and a few thoughts occurred to me. I haven't read many of the threads here so apologies if I'm going over old ground, or stating the obvious, or missing it. "O = Queen, able to circle the board" A rook can "circle" the board, can't it? (Albeit in a rectangular fashion.) As can a bishop. As can a knight. But the queen can move in all directions, which you might conceivably choose to represent as a circle. "Lions are warriors, while the word uni-corn means one-heart." Eh? Is that word play? Surely: unicorn = uni+corn = one+horn (just as cor anglais = english horn (it's a bit like a unicorn's horn too, well all the unicorns I've seen)) Is the point of iameye's "two paths" posts something to do with the words "CLUB" and "BAND" on the bottom of the drum? Probably not. But anyway... club = attack/fight (and it's in the Liston half) band = join together (and it's in the Temple Dors half) two paths Also "club" associates with "lonely"; "band" associates with "hearts". And "club" associates with "BEAT"; "band" associates with "LiES PAUL?". Or maybe it was just that the band hearts Les Paul? The Mad Hatter with his shoes off and the 10 shillings and 6 pence ticket on his hat; the band begins at ten to six; McCartney's bloody shoes by the I Am The Walrus drum kit. But also... place a clock showing ten to six on the Pepper drum... The little hand is pointing to the start of BAND, the big hand is pointing to the start of the band. (It doesn't work with a digital clock.) And having written that down thinking I'd just come up with it myself, I've suddenly got a sudden rush of deja vu. How many decades ago did I read that somewhere? Oh well. Incidentally, am I the only one who wants to just reach in there and put that bloody drum straight? Because of broken links and the like (e.g. laziness), I'm not sure if it's been raised, but Harry Nilsson's "Mr Richard's Favorite Song" also quotes The Walrus And The Carpenter with reference to the relationship between a pop star and his fans. (Regardless of PID, any Beatles fans who haven't heard at least Harry Nilsson's first couple of albums really should rectify that problem.) TY with bottom-right obscured = TV (with bottom-right obscured). Sometimes when you're looking through a glass onion you miss the bigger picture. If you needed someone to point out that the Soul in Rubber Soul is a pun on Sole then what hope is there? Why would anyone call an album Rubber Soul without meaning it to be a pun on Rubber Sole? That's not to say it couldn't also be a cryptic clue for gumshoe (detective) - especially with those elongated faces there waiting to be explained - but soul/sole is hardly a revelation. Speaking of Revelation, it's had a fair amount of attention here. But it's just a (probably) drug-fuelled stream of imagery-laden nonsense. Who'd go picking through stuff like that trying to find truth...? (Joke.) The raw shot of the Pepper cover (I can't find a high quality scan - www.fab4art.com/sgt_pepper_shoot.htm) clearly shows that the actual flower display (in the dirt) was a bit rough and ready and would have had to have been touched up. The other shots taken on the day were never touched up, and show it too. The "S" in particular was very messy. So there was possibly scope for some playing around when the picture was spruced up. Incidentally, when you look at the full shot on that page there's a weird red splodge dripping down the right hand side, and beyond it a slightly disturbing looking waxwork or mannequin with its head obscured. It would have been a bit eerie to be in that room I think. That page also identifies a still of Timothy Carey in The Killing as one of the obscured cut-outs. He's behind George's head. His gun from the still wasn't included but if it had been it would have been pointing at, whom exactly? Well, OK, it might be Ringo actually. I'm not sure. According to the Wikipedia entry for I Am The Walrus, Lennon said, "The words "Element'ry penguin" meant that it's naïve to just go around chanting Hare Krishna or putting all your faith in one idol. In those days I was writing obscurely, a la Dylan." So "elementary penguin singing Hare Krishna - man you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allen Poe" sounds to me like he's comparing the herd mentality and the mob mentality. When a bunch of people get together in the name of some ideology or cause - however good or benign, it usually ends badly. Because they're still just people. Something like that. And looking up... I noticed I was late. Ta-ta.

So you're "the late" bunyan, Paul? Interesting post. Welcome. Always good to get fresh perspectives here. Some of what you've written about has been covered in depth here. Some has been covered in dirt. I hear your ox is a blue meanie! You have many contacts Among the lumberjacks To get you facts When someone attacks your imagination But nobody has any respect Anyway they already expect you To all give a check To tax-deductible charity organizations. You've been with the professors And they've all liked your looks With great lawyers you have Discussed lepers and crooks You've been through all of F. Scott Fitzgerald's books You're very well read It's well known.
But something is happening here And you don't know what it is Do you, Mister Jones ?But you will! ;D

Funnily enough I was thinking of the other Bunyan. (There isn't a Ringo Bunyan is there? We'll be here all day.) I don't know why, other than it rhymes with onion. Which I suspect would not suffice as an explanation in many other places.
Regardless of that, I do frequently feel just like Dylan's Mister Jones.
So thank you, and Hello. Ta-ra.

"The time has come," the Walrus said, "to speak of other things." Like a fallen star who works in a bar where Yesterday is King. The fans all come for an hour or so, they still remember his fame, But the time has come the Walrus said, to call your fans by name. Scat out . . . they had to be in by One

Aren't bunyans things you get on your toes? As long as I'm not getting on your tits... (*thinks* international readership... potentially offensive colloquialism... better explain... don't bother...) I really didn't need to see that foot. Unless it's a clue... Looking through the bent back... tootsies? Little piggies? I bet the whole White Album's in that picture.
