I will be seeing The (not so Young) Rascals tonight. If the opportunity presents itself, perhaps I'll ask Dino Danelli if he ever was a Paul substitute! That idea has been floated here before, mostly by GN. The Rascals - It's A Beautiful Morning *LIVE* www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNIhjBZS3sg

OK, here's the deal. I didn't have a chance to meet with Mr. Danelli, but when you see him in the flesh, it becomes apparent that - at best - the most he ever could have been was a Paul decoy. Somebody they would hire to misdirect a crowd of screaming women chasing after the Beatles, maybe. He may have looked a bit like Paul in profile, back in the day, but head-on his jaw is different, and his eyebrows too. People would have caught on very quickly that it wasn't Paul.
I doubt that he was ever called upon to play that role.
He's a heck of a drummer though!

Dino Danelli has always been my favorite drummer of all time with John Bonham. Ringo Starrchild and Keith Moonchild are a close 2nd. I believe Linda once said The Rascals should've been as big as The Beatles in America. (I agree) His hair is usually always parted on the left. Sometimes in the middle. If he was 'Faul', why would they part his hair on the right and make him look less like 'Paul'? Am I seeing two different Dinos? Looking at the chin/jawline.

Based on my scrutiny of him last night, I would say that all of those pictures are the one and only. It's just a matter of the cameras used. He does a thing with his mouth, best shown in the bottom left picture, where it looks like he's getting ready to kiss someone. What would be a dead giveaway (pun intended) though, would be when he started to talk in the New Jersey tough guy style of "dose guys" and so on. No one would mistake him for Paul at that point. His ears are close to his skull, as shown in the top right picture, and not at all like the "open car doors" of JPM.

Rascals take Kirby Center audience back in timecitizensvoice.com/news/rascals-take-kirby-center-audience-back-in-time-1.1588429 By Kristen Gaydos (Staff Writer) Published: November 20, 2013 "Those attending The Rascals show at the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday night might be experiencing some temporal disorientation this morning. The popular 1960s band known for hits like "Good Lovin'" and "Groovin'" took the Kirby Center crowd on a time-traveling adventure Tuesday night with a psychedelic, multimedia extravaganza as they reunited for "The Rascals: Once Upon A Dream" in downtown Wilkes-Barre. The group captured the carefree optimism of the 1960s, with help of 2013's technology, to showcase their biggest hits and deep album cuts. A crowd of about 800 watched as the words rolled "Star Wars" style across a curtain: "Once upon a time, there came a band of brothers who came from a land far, far away - New Jersey." The curtain dropped to reveal The Rascals and their backup singers in black silhouette against the white screen. The lights came up as they dove into "It's Wonderful," off their 1968 album "Once Upon A Dream." Original members keyboardist and vocalist Felix Cavaliere, vocalist Eddie Brigati, drummer Dino Danelli and guitarist Gene Cornish quickly proved the years hadn't changed their signature sound. The high-energy opening continued with "I've Been Lonely Too Long" and "What is the Reason," two songs from the 1967 album "Collections." Steven Van Zandt, well-known guitarist of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, produced the show, which had a critically acclaimed run on Broadway. The show took the audience through the band's formation in Garfield, N.J., and career with archival footage, narration and dramatic film segments. "We were just knock around guys, neighborhood Jersey guys, you know?" Brigati said in an interview. The band members spoke candidly about their past, with the help of actor Vincent Pastore, as they discussed things like how a band called The Beatles opened for them in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1963 and how Brigati almost died in a car accident about a week before their first big gig in the Hamptons. Other highlights included "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore," the clap-along "Come On Up" and their rendition of Smokey Robinson and The Miracles' "Mickey's Monkey" mixed with "Turn on Your Love Light." "The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream" will head back to Broadway in December for a three-week limited run through January 2014. kgaydos@citizensvoice.com, 570-821-2118

The bass player is looking at the fret board, does that mean he's a replacement? Did you just pay money to see The Fascals?! You should go back to the ticket (wilkes)booth and demand a refund.

I don't know who played base for them back in the day. All four of the original members were there the other night. I don't see one in this video that lucy posted. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVhcTF4E_SQ

They didn't have a bass player in the '60s. That was just a set up to the wilkes-booth pun I was wanted to use.

I'm on my way back home, take me back where I come from. (The song is actually called Carry Me Back)Strange, the first thing I thought of was the end of "Cry Baby Cry" on the White Album. Can you take me back where I came from? Can you take me back?....Mr. Danelli wanting back with the Rascals rather than being Paul Mc Cartney.....

The "can you take me back" segment was always my favorite Bealtes song. Their one unlisted track...
