www.itsonlyrocknroll.com/catphotos/29688_ss.jpgmysterious "looking glass" photo of Lennon by mysterious photog Robert Whitaker (butcher coveer, Process pics etc)... 1965 www.itsonlyrocknroll.com/catalog/auction_item.php?forcepa=1&unid=296881965. Robert Whitaker's first exposure to the Beatles was during the group's concert stop in Melbourne, Australia, in June 1964; the transplanted Brit had been running a freelance studio in Melbourne, and upon witnessing the excitement generated by the Beatles, was persuaded by Brian Epstein to become NEMS' staff photographer. Whitaker became fast friends with the Beatles, especially John Lennon. Numerous Whitaker photos, particulary the infamous "Butcher" cover photo, are among the most instantly recognizable images taken of the Beatles. Whitaker considers these images, taken in the garden of the Lennon's Weybridge home, among his favorites. Whitaker further acknowledged his inspiration as being "a meditation on Narcissus." On the reverse of this 16 x 20" photo, Robert Whitaker has written the following in pencil: "'Narcissus' An original vintage print made at the time of the negative - Robert Whitaker 1965." The photo exhibits pin holes in three corners and lower left hand border, a lower left corner crease, lightly rounded corners and several barely- discernible wrinkles.
