This was pretty interesting. I'm curious as hell now to hear from Jimmie.

Very interesting take, and there's plenty of material from the author of the book himself out there already. Jim Berkenstadt is also known as the rock and roll detective and has appeared on a few podcasts and interviews plugging his book. The presenter comes across as factual and anodyne, but there's a few comments that sound like propaganda without evidence to back them up. Still it's worth going over those things again because it sharpens the picture on that crucial period. One thing I've neglected to look into in depth is Jimmie Nichol's career post-Beatles and the first record I listened to must be the worst song ever put to vinyl... I did a search using 'Jimmy nichol and the shubdubs' as a search term because I thought he'd joined a band called The Shubdubs. Something about the images made me think that he didn't fit in - possibly because of the different coloured suit he was wearing, but also he just doesn't look like one of them. I searched The Shubdubs on their own and saw the same images. The whole thing looks like a vehicle to keep Jimmie distracted. He looks just as out of place in The Spotniks before being eased into obscurity. I got this quote from the Beatles Bible and it's by Jimmie about the July 12th Brighton concert which I think is performed by imposters. I'd like to know when this comment was made because it's quite chilling.
Looking deeper into their discography a chronology on Jimmie's Wikipedia page has The Shubdubs recording Humpty Dumpty before he toured with Georgie Fame and The Beatles. Man whoever wrote that Wikipedia entry for Jimmie Nichol is sowing confusion. His next recording comes out in 1965 and it's possibly his only one before joining The Spotniks in 1965. Who knows man? I think it's him in The Spotniks but have not seen any material from Mexico.
