Written by Richard Warren Lipack. Essentially a very detailed day by day accouting of the events during their touring of the pacific countries and the final US tour in 1966. Got it through Amazon's used book service. This book also has a lot of candid photos that I've never seen anywhere else, I'll be posting those as time goes on. It also goes off on totaly unrelated tangents regarding conspiracies, (not Beatle related) which for obvious reasons I won't go into here. But the behind the scenes stuff is fantastic. The writing is style is a little verbose, I could almost picture the guy continually running out of breath as he wrote..  Anyway, the first thing that caught my eye was these pages that mention an impropmtu recording session taking place on 8/26/66 in LA. So what, you may ask? Well, I've read a lot about Beatle timelines, and perhaps someone will say they already heard of this, but I've never heard of this before. As far as I knew, they recorded Revolver, went on tour, and then recording for Penny Lane and so forth commenced in late 1966. (Nov 24 for SFF one source I have says) The book says they "recorded some live vocal arrangements over some pre-existing tracks". (sans Ringo) I'm wondering, which songs were these vocals for? Just a theory: This is the source for the "scraps", such as the mid section of ADITL, or perhaps "Your Mother Should know", among others. Some scans of the book: Btw, some educational material as well for music novices. (like me)     |

It's the one thing that keeps my brain entrenched in the possibility that Paul was replaced... these pictures were taken only a couple months before the Kenya stuff, and Paul looks dramatically different. It's not even a gradual change of appearance. His face just radically morphs, and then slowly (but not ever completely) begins to reshape into what it was as the years go by.

Although I am not a PID believer, I see a very tired thinning Paul. Not the alledged Faul. Yes I know it is odd to say I can see and recognize Faul, even though I believe it is still Paul. I wonder if drugs and overwork just aged him. There are those who claim it can't happen in a year, but drugs can do that in days. As far as not having a hairy chest. I think he just shaved it in the early years. Look at his arms. I saw Beatle images where he had no hair on his arms, but look at that.

Tired maybe, but thinning, nah, he's still got some meat on them bones. And shaving the chest? How do I say this...well first of all, if there was any public image reason for this, that doesn't figure, they didn't present him like they do male rock stars these days, where they take the shirt off early in the concert, this is almost the first I've seen of it. And second...well let's just say it doesn't figure.. (no metrosexual makeovers back then...) As for drugs, well you'd have to alledge specific drugs, weed ain't making anyone thinner. Lsd, nope not really. Heavy coke users forget to eat after a while, as do heavy heroin users. Lennon said he was a heavy heroin user around the Let It Be time, I believe him, he looked pretty emaciated. (as did George then and earlier) From what I've read, They all did weed, with Paul being the last LSD holdout, whether it was at this gathering or "later". Wouldn't be surprised at some coke being passed around pre 67 either, but the heroin use came later, but never by Paul. (or the alleged Faul) No one needed to kill any pain prior, and that's what herion does, kills the pain. |

Well. I wasn't really looking for a specific reason to shave a chest, just that it is a possibility, but since we are at it. The reason could be personal. Maybe he doesn't like it. The reason is really irrelevant. The fact that he has tons of forearm hair mean he is not genetically incapable of growing hair on his chest. The lack of it in some images does not mean it was never there.
But I think I have gotten off track. You can just forget about twhat I am saying and go back to the main thread topic.

Paul looked remarkably healthy just coming off a grueling tour. The PIA theory about his sudden change in appearance in Kenya was supposed to be because he lost weight after the tour. Doesn't appear he needed to lose any weight. Anyway, I would think the tendency would be to gain weight after a tour, once all the activity/stress is over.
Regarding drugs, LSD is reported to suppress the appetite, but you'd have to be on it continously for it to affect your weight much. The Beatles tended to use "uppers" only while they were on tour so they could keep up with the relentless schedule.

The Beatles were using uppers starting way back in the Hamburg days, so that wasn't anything new.
If they were doin' LSD, that wouldn't effect anything that drastically.
During the late 60's-'76 I was doin' LSD a few times a week & never missed a meal.
And I always looked the same.
(LEGAL NOTICE: 28 yrs.... I think I'm past the "Statute of Limitations" for tripping!)

I think a 40yr fade of Brian Wilson would be in order.

Something tells me Paul may have recorded a demo for Blackbird at this session. Is there anything more about this impromptu session?

There's not really anything more about the recording session than what's in the scan I made, unfortunately. What stands out is how what was recorded there is unaccounted for in any other source, not just that it's existance is news. (to me) In other words, every song post revolver is stated (by numerous sources) to have been recorded some months after, so what songs were done there? There's a lack of agreement here.. As for the house, well it was not really stated, that's why I put a (?) as to the ownership. There were no more books written by this author, looks like he never completed the project. But I'd recommend it highly. Search around the used book stores. Interestingly, this particular book was a free copy given to G. Gordon Liddy, complete with a dedication! Neat, huh? Guess he didn't care for it much, LOL. |

Yeah, the "official" chronicle by Lewisohn, afaik, only includes tapes in the EMI/Apple vaults -- nothing about demos recorded at the guys' homes, or other studios they may have visited on tour or even on vacation.

No he's cool, I think it's just standard procedure to make a letter like this as strongly worded as possible. I would have done it even if he just said hey would ya mind.. (but he doesn't know me so..)
We talked a bit, and he reiterated that I could use five pics and five text pages if I included the attribution he requested, so I will do that when I have a chance. A new product is coming soon, but he wouldn't tell me what it is. (looking forward to it though, whatever it is)

Been reading "The Gospel According to the Beatles by Steve Turner. Not sure how "gospel" it is, because a photo with caption is included:  "Refused access"? No. Aside from the two part series in Datebook (Nov/Dec 1966) where it's clear they have quite imtimate access, to the point of hanging out and taking those photos at Benedict Canyon, there are also these photos of Arthur Unger with John and Paul backstage at Candlestick Park: Datebook, Dec. 1966:  Epoch Moments and Secrets:  With the exception of Richard's book, many Beatle tomes are at the very least badly researched, something you notice after a while.. |
