[glow=blue,2,300]BLUE[/glow]
I'm tangled up in it.
I was, by chance, listening to "Baby Blue" by Badfinger,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=C53QAuOoSgc
when the light went on. Not literally; I'm like CoconutFudge, and sometimes the street lights do
go off and on when I go under them, but this time it was figuratively.
And I can't quite explain this, but it was as if there was a voice saying, "Blue. Check it out."
But there wasn't really a voice.
This was a little while after I had posted the comments about the Jefferson Airplane song:
"J.P.P. McStep B. Blues",
and somehow the two blue references clicked, and it occurred to me
that there was something about blue.
So naturally, I thought about Sylvie Vartan being the "bluebird" of France, and how she wore a
blue dress when she performed (sometimes).
And I thought of the back of the Abbey Road album:
And I thought about how there had been some speculation that the woman in the blue dress
was Sylvie, who, by alledgedly having a tryst with Paul, had caused him to "bag production".
So, we had speculated that the "devil with a blue dress on" had kind of set the wheels in motion
for the Beatles' demise, and that this is what was being shown:
Sylvie walking defiantly, but victoriously, off to the right as the remaining 3 Beatles feigned quartetdom.
And then I thought about how I had speculated that perhaps the love that lay bleeding in Elton
John's song was Sylvie in Paul's arms. And perhaps she had died, and the "Funeral for a Friend"
was her funeral.
And I thought of the imagery of Paul in a dress in the Magical Mystery Tour comics, and the
TKIN discussion of whether that was who Jenny Crowley was. That is to say: Paul in a dress.
And I thought about how I had speculated that if Paul felt responsible for Sylvie's death,
that he might have tried to live the life she would have lived, by
attempting to let her spirit live
in his body, and living his life as hers.
And then it hit me!
"Well you should see Polythene Pam!
She's so good looking,
But she looks like a man.
Well, you should see her in drag,
dressed in a polythene bag.
Yes you should see Polythene Pam!
Yeah! yeah! yeah!"
Polythene Pam is PAULythene Pam, and it is he, or should I say,
she who is represented exiting stage right on the Abbey Road album!
And then I started thinking of all the songs that came out in the late 1960s and early '70s like
"Suite Judy Blue Eyes" ("Sweet JUDE-y Blue eyes") or "Behind Blue Eyes" by
The Who, or "Old Blue" by the Byrds, a song about a dog.
And of course I thought of the song "Blue" by Joni Mitchell.
And it doesn't quite work, because, you know, Paul had brown eyes. And yet.....
And yet there's a song: "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" by Dylan that was referenced in a George
Harrison song. So even if you say, "Well, 'sweet judy blue eyes' was Judy Collins, and "Blue"
was about David Crosby, I still have a feeling that there's something there.

Early one mornin' the sun was shinin',
I was layin' in bed
Wond'rin' if she'd changed at all
If her hair was still red.
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like Mama's homemade dress
Papa's bankbook wasn't big enough.
And I was standin' on the side of the road
Rain fallin' on my shoes
Heading out for the East Coast
Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through,
Tangled up in blue.
She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam, I guess,
But I used a little too much force.
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out West
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best.
She turned around to look at me
As I was walkin' away
I heard her say over my shoulder,
"We'll meet again someday on the avenue,"
Tangled up in blue.
I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell.
So I drifted down to New Orleans
Where I happened to be employed
Workin' for a while on a fishin' boat
Right outside of Delacroix.
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind,
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew
Tangled up in blue.
She was workin' in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer,
I just kept lookin' at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear.
And later on as the crowd thinned out
I's just about to do the same,
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, "Don't I know your name?"
I muttered somethin' underneath my breath,
She studied the lines on my face.
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,
Tangled up in blue.
She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello," she said
"You look like the silent type."
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you, (Rubber Soul)
Tangled up in blue.
I lived with them on Montague Street
In a basement down the stairs,
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air.
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died.
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside.
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn,
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew, ("this bird has flown"; Norwegian Wood may be about Paul)
Tangled up in blue.
So now I'm goin' back again,
I got to get to her somehow.
All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now.
Some are mathematicians (Lewis Carrol = John Lennon)
Some are carpenter's wives. (devoted Christians, essentially; Paul)
Don't know how it all got started,
I don't know what they're doin' with their lives.
But me, I'm still on the road
Headin' for another joint
We always did feel the same,
We just saw it from a different point of view,
Tangled up in blue.

I just can't put my finger on it....
So...I may be crazy, but I'm tellin' ya: Paul is Blue.
Love is blue. Yer Blues. I'm a Bluebird.
And he's Monday. (So he's 'Blue Monday'.)
And he's "Jude, Jude, Jude, Jude, Jude, Judy, Judy, Judy".
And he's "17".
And he's Paulythene Pam.
Of course.....I could be wrong. ;D (But I'm not. )
