The Beatles' work has many recurring themes. Maybe there is a message encapsulated by that reality. Please post as many as you can think of. Here are a few to get the game started.
Blue Jay Way: Don't be long, don't be long, don't be long. Long Long Long: It's been a long, long, long time.
Hey Jude: Make it better better better... It's Getting Better: I do believe it's getting better, better, better.
Your Mother Should Know: Your mother should know. Cry Baby Cry: Make your mother sigh / She's old enough to know better.
Revolution 1 Revolution 9 (Revelation 1:9 "I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation..."

Revolution 1 Revolution 9 (Revelation 1:9 "I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation..." Weird! Revolution 1, Revolution 9....Revelation chapter 1, verse nine, and it begins with John introducing himself. If you only count the first nine words it's "I, John, who also am your brother, and companion". Cosmic coincidence, or did John Lennon know?

I tend to give John credit for things like that, because his brilliance shines through again and again in multiple layers of subtlety; though I suppose it could be one of Lucy's Sky Diamonds. -j

I Am The Walrus: "See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly." Lady Madonna: "See how they run..."
Wikipedia's entry says that "Paul" wrote the song mostly, but that "see how they run" part was included after John's suggestion.

Money...That's what I want, Money Can't Buy Me Love, In Baby You're A Rich man, "you keep all your money in a big brown bag..","You Never Give Me Your Money"
With regards to the Rev. 1:9....brother and companion ....to JPM...Not necessarily always meaning a literal blood brother, but when in close relationship/friendship and bond there is a "brotherhood"
Also with the idea of "brotherhood"...a term used for members of a secret order...secret cult...religion order...
Hmmm
The refrain after "Cry, Baby, Cry" Can you take me back where I came from, brother can you take me back?...."

I think there may be more than meets the eye when it comes to The Beatles and connections to the occult, i.e. Masonry, OTO, etc. Heck they DID put a RAOB guy on Pepper. -j

Is it just me, or are Nowhere Man and The Fool On The Hill about the same person/entity? I have always felt that these two songs carried an almost identical theme and feeling.
(I know they are portrayed as different characters in the films, but what does that really have to do with anything?)

I never really thought of that, jarvitronics. Thematically, the two songs are very much alike, though I think the Fool was written about a man no one sees, like a ghost or something (Sir Paul did say it was based on an encounter he had with an apparition). I think Nowhere Man is an actual person.
FOTH: Nobody wants to know him/nobody ever hears him....
NM: Isn't he a bit like you and me/Leave it all till somebody else lends you a hand....
Maybe I'm wrong. But unless the story about seeing an apparition on a hill was fabricated, I'd go with the ghost theory in regards to FOTH.

LSD: Picture yourself on a boat on a river Dig A Pony: You can syndicate any boat you row I'll bet that this has been covered before, but the boat theme is rich in the Beatles myth. Note that Paul did some of the Anthology interviews while steering a boat. John had his own sea adventure and had sea shanties on his composing tapes. There is the river Rhine from the Get Back sessions. And let's not forget Yellow Submarine! In Beautiful Night Paul sings: Someone's gone out fishing Someone's high and dry. Someone's on a mission to the lonely Lorelei. Some folk’s got a vision of a castle in the sky And I'm left stranded, wondering why. This is a quote from Wikipedia: The Loreley (also written as Lorelei) is a rock on the eastern bank of the Rhine near St. Goarshausen, which soars some 120 meters above the water line. It marks the narrowest part of the river between Switzerland and the North Sea. A very strong current and rocks below the waterline have caused many boat accidents there. Loreley is also the name of one of the beautiful Rhine Maidens who lured navigators of this river to their dooms with their alluring singing, much as the ancient Greek Sirens did. And check out this poem from the same source: The Lorelei by Heinrich Heine Translated by Aaron Kramer I cannot explain the sadness That's fallen on my breast. An old, old fable haunts me, And will not let me rest. The air grows cool in the twilight, And softly the Rhine flows on; The peak of a mountain sparkles Beneath the setting sun. More lovely than a vision, A girl sits high up there; Her golden jewelry glistens, She combs her golden hair. With a comb of gold she combs it, And sings an evensong; The wonderful melody reaches A boat, as it sails along. The boatman hears, with an anguish More wild than was ever known; He's blind to the rocks around him; His eyes are for her alone. --At last the waves devoured The boat, and the boatman's cry; And this did with her singing, The golden Lorelei.

Good post, tafultong. You're right on target, imo. The wreckage of a boat is a part of the mystery, though it comes up more in other artists' works who were contemporaries of the Beatles. It is my opinion that they tried to tell the story through their own works. Among them:
Elton John, in "Madman Across the Water":
I can see very well There's a boat on the reef with a broken back And I can see it very well
There's a joke and I know it very well It's one of those that I told you long ago: "Take my word; I'm a madman, don't you know?"
Once a fool had a good part in the play (the band, but more: the 'play' the Beatles were 'in'.)[/b] If it's so... would I still be here today? (etc.)
Also Procol Harum: "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and "A Salty Dog".
As for the Beatles' material: there's an audio 'storm at sea' through the repetative refrain at the end of "I Want You/She's So Heavy"

They have significance both as identities of people in the Beatle organization, (in some instances, the Beatles themselves) and as indicators of when things happened. "Stupid bloody Tuesday, man, You've been a naughty boy; You let your face grow long!" (John calls Paul naughty for letting his face "grow long"; i. e. for letting Bill take over the role.) ------ "Wednesday morning at 5 o'clock SHE is far away." The time of when something occurred. "She's Leaving Home" is based on a newspaper story about a girl who ran away from home, but imo it also has undertones about Paul's 'running away from' the Beatles. The weekday names have been examined six ways to Sunday. But keep on keepin' on.

The weekday names have been examined six ways to Sunday. But keep on keepin' on. I am aware of the "standard" interpretations of the days of the week in The Beatles work, however, each one of these interpretations presupposes that it is all about PID/PWR. Promulgating these interpretations as though they are facts is, IMO, folly. I think a better way to approach these things is to assume nothing about what the messages mean. In that way my biases won't prevent me from seeing what is really there, or conversely, cause me to see something that is NOT there. Firm and ardent "belief" has absolutely nothing to do with the truth; the two are frequently mortal enemies. All of the PID/PWR "clues" might possibly be nothing more than misdirection, aimed at masking the real message. -j

Hmmm The refrain after "Cry, Baby, Cry" Can you take me back where I came from, brother can you take me back?...." Take this brother, may serve you well (Revolution 9) Come home brother, all is forgiven We all cried when you were driven away (Fine Line) [In the bible, the Gospel of Matthew 18:21-22 says: 21Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" 22Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."] Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can, No need for greed or hunger, A brotherhood of man (Imagine) Sister Suzie, brother John, Martin Luther, Phil And Don, Brother Michael, Auntie Gin, Open the door and let 'em in. (Let 'Em In) What about relatives? If you don't let 'em in on the secret, another option is a brotherhood... Gospel of Mark, Chapter 3 31Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you." 33"Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asked. 34Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! So, yes I agree that brotherhood is a recurring theme with far reaching connections.

Sister Suzie, brother John, Martin Luther, Phil And Don, Brother Michael, Auntie Gin, Open the door and let 'em in. (Let 'Em In) Whenever I hear the word "door" in any Beatles post-Pepper work I think of Diana Dors. There she is on the cover of Pepper, obscuring the RAOB "brother" from full view. (Does that make her a jar? heh.) Her name is Diana, who in mythology is Apollo's twin sister. What do you know? Apollo! Now back to the revolution/revelation thing: Revelation 9:1: The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. The FIFTH angel? (Fifth Beatle?) Sounded his TRUMPET? (Ringo has the trumpet). A star fallen to Earth? (There is a fallen star on Sgt Pepper, lower left. Who was in the sky? Lucy was.) The STAR was given the KEY? (STARKEY!) The shaft of the Abyss? (Abbey? road) A shaft can be a tunnel or a beam of light, but it can also mean SOMEBODY GOT SCREWED. -j

I agree that it's good to keep an open mind about the interpretations, allowing for multiple meanings and multiple levels of meaning. At the same time, it's been 40 effing years, and leaving the puzzle apart in individual pieces for the sake of keeping an open mind is a luxury we don't really have at this point, imo. We know there was a message being delivered. Let's get to it, before its significance has been voided by the passage of time. If a message is given in the forest, and there's nobody around who hears it....

If a message is given in the forrest, and there's nobody around who hears it.... While it is possible that time is of the essence, it is just as possible that The Beatles' message is timeless. (Either way, dogmatic interpretations do not save any time unless they are provable.) There is an amazing amount of shenanigans going on in The Beatles' work. That much is obvious. It appears that there is just as much shenanigans going on in the PID/PWR community. Buyer beware. -j
