They existed but were not for HOME use, which is not to say you didn't have one at home. My dad had one in the 1970s but he was in the business. the point is, in 1966 it was very rare which is why we don't have a complete video of the tonight show, and why it is so unlikely (statistically) that it exists. I don't disagree, more or less what I said. Btw, RE: the 70's, the Betamax home recorder came out in 1975, but obviously only the early adopters had it first, just like anything else. Wollensak reel to reel audio recorders became popular in the 50's. Realistically, the debut of a kid's show would not motivate most to break out the tape recorder, probably the kids weren't allowed to play with the grown-up's expensive machine anyway. I did, I still have reel to reel recordings of stuff I recorded off AM radio in 1970. (bootlegging was fun)

The Mormon church teaches that any child seven years or younger who dies goes to heaven automatically. Once you turn eight, you are fully eligible for hell. This sounds good and all, if one wanted to convert and then have kids. Are there any guarantees? Good news! You don't have to convert. The rule applies to all children, not just Mormon ones. -j

Ah! Good news indeed! Now for a more serious question. Can you be 'saved' if you are a Mormom? If so how much $$$$ is it? Are there payment plans available? If my credit sucks do they charge a higher interest rate? Are you screwed if you die before you are paid in full? Do married couples get a discount if they want to be 'saved' together? Thanks in advance.

Oh, but we did! The kids weren't allowed to play with the grown-up's expensive machine (a Wollensack at that!) but when they weren't around, we did - A LOT - and I have some audio of Soupy Sales (somewhere) and reversals of Revolution 9 ;D, as well as stuff my parents did when we were kids. It's downright freaky to hear my parents telling me to "Get your elbows off the table!" Jojo, Do you, by any chance, have any WABC in its heyday in your collection?

Jojo, Do you, by any chance, have any WABC in its heyday in your collection? Unfortunately no, although of course we could get WABC at night up here in NH. I recorded WRKO 680 from Boston, and then later FM stations once we got cable and could pull them in crystal clear. WRKO broadcast the top 100 hits of the decade, that was the motivation I believe.. And if I'm not mistaken, Hey Jude was the winner.

I'd love to have a casette of those WRKO days, if you ever feel motivated. I know it may be a hassle. I still have the original Wollensack and another one to pull the tape (the original lost its drive-belt) but it takes a bit of coaxing to get it motivated these days.

Problem is, I have the tape, but no reel to reel machine anymore. I may be motivated to change that someday, but may be a while.

beatlies brought this up almost 4 years ago, but I must have been asleep. invanddis.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=3097 <---- hereI believe the lyrics being played during the car demolition scene in the Monkees video above may have been these below. Ditty Diego - War ChantHey hey we are the monkees You know we love to please A manufactured image With no philosophies We hope you like our story Although there isn't one That is to say there's many That way there is more fun You told us you like action And games of many kinds You like to dance, we like to sing So let's all lose our minds! We know it doesn't matter, Cause what you came to see Is what we'd love to give you, And give it one, two, three! But there may come three, two, one, two Or jump from nine to five, And when you see the end in sight The beginning may arrive! For those who look for meaning, And form as they do facts, We might tell you one thing But we'd only take it backNot back like in a box back Not back like in a race, Not back so we can keep it, But back in time and space! You say we're manufactured, To that we all agree, So make you choice and we'll rejoice In never being free! Hey hey we are the monkees, We've said it all before The money's in we're made of tin We're here to give you more! The money's in; we're made of tin We're here to give you-- *bang!!* *scream!!!* Gimme a w! W! Gimme an a! A! Gimme an r!! R!! What does that spell!!?? War!! ---------- Diego Garcia is a nice, out of the way place. An island in the Indian Ocean that is under control of the US Navy. The kind of place that - if one were going to attempt something bizarre, like - say, time travel experiments, it would be quite suitable.

The Monkees - HEAD (Terri Garr & Violin Scene)Teri Garr in WHERE'S THE BUS10 miles from the Dewsbury Road? ("beetles" at 5:05 and 5:15)Another " 'violin' scene": Please take note of the fact that it is a 'violin' that appears at the 'top' of the pyramid (stairs) in the video at 2:36. ("Music" is at the top of the pyramid.) The Beatles come running out at 2:26 and are playing with a ball. They disappear, and then children are shown playing at 2:46 - 3:15. "Flower children" one might say. The Beatles are shown again briefly at 3:16 - 3:18. All the while George is singing " please Don't Be Long". Someone was making a trip through time, it seems, and his return was anxiously awaited, and anticipated. For those who look for meaning, And form as they do facts, We might tell you one thing But we'd only take it back...back in time and space! At 3:23 the "magical mystical boy" is shown; missing his head, in the Blue Jay Way video. The name of the Monkees movie is "HEAD". The "magical metical boy" is missing his. Perhaps someone went back in time to get it for him. Look again at the Terri Garr "violin scene". Mickey Dolenz walks "through time" (a set wall) from one location to another. Salient lines are spoken about the heartlessness of the woman who is pretending to be dead. Salient lines are spoken by Mike Nesmith about breaking the head off an arrow to remove it. The Monkees- Too Many Girls [opening scene]The Monkees "Too Many Girls" UNCENSORED!!!Who is that getting his shoes shined at 11 seconds into that video above? The old fortune teller lies dead on the floor Nobody needs fortunes told anymore The trainer of insects is crouched on his knees And frantically looking for runaway fleas La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la Let's all drink to the "death" of a clown You all saw "the trainer of insects" (beatles) in this video, at the end: By the way, just for laughs, listen to Michael Nesmith talking at the start of that video with your eyes closed, and tell me he doesn't sound like George W Bush! Now... there's something rather curious about this "Too Many Girls" episode of "The Monkees". I will comment further shortly.

I suppose I really should watch the entire episode before commenting, but even what I've seen of it seems totally transparent. There are a few things that really jump out at me here. Davy Jones represents Paul of the Beatles. Being "the cute one", he attracts the ladies. The going off into a daze seems to have been a real thing with Paul, if some of the clues we've discovered here have validity. What really jumps out at me though, is the chair! The one that Davy Jones is chained to. He lugs it around, as if it were a ball and chain he was attached to. What's even stranger is that we've seen it before. Or should I say, "more recently"? And it's easy to say, "Oh yes: 'Hold you in his armchair; you can feel his dis-ease'. Yep, it's a Beatles reference, all right!" But think about this: At the time that episode of The Monkees came out, people weren't looking for clues. That didn't start happening 'til late October of 1969. So why put in a visual clue into a Monkees show from the first season that would relate to Paul McCartney or PID/PWR? And who would have known or thought to do that anyway?! Who would even have known to do that, given that as far as anyone knew, the Beatles were alive and well at the time?! The episode aired on December 19, 1966! (Season 1, Episode 15) The most recent Beatle album out at that time would have been "Revolver". ;D I'll bet that guy getting his shoes shined knew! Superman - er - I mean, "Clark Kent" would have known! (Gosh, he sure looks familiar!) He would have known because he is the backwards traveler. Wool unraveler. According to the script. And you may not have picked up on this, watching the clip the first time, but Paul - er - I mean Clark Kent, is sitting in the chair that Davy is pulling, and then his mates (Davy's) go running after someone who they think is Davy Jones but it turns out not to be! Who, in 1966, knew to put all that stuff in a TV show that, presumably, would be forgotten by 1969, and certainly by the year 2010! Whoooooo?

Do you think that I'm creepy? Lemme take a minute & tell you my plan Lemme take a minute & tell who I am If it doesn't show Think you better know I'm another person Better look around before you say you don't care Shut your fuckin' mouth about the length of my hair How would you survive If you were alive Shitty little person? Stupid & blind? Do you think that I dream through the night Of holding you near me? Lemme take a minute & tell you my plan Lemme take a minute & tell who I am If it doesn't show Think you better know I'm another person -------------- Believe it or not, these actually are clues, imo, 'though they're presented in a rather obtuse way. The same can be said for the cover of the album.

Wow, did that come out of left field! And yet I shouldn't be surprised; it's just not where I thought I was going with this. Nice work though, P(D)enny. I must say... Heck, I was going to talk about Zorro! Hmmm. Zorro! Zodiak Killer.... Neither would seem to have much to do with The Monkees, but then again..... It's a strange strange world we live in, Master Jack! ;D

Now for those of you who may not be old enough to remember, the TV character Zorro was sort of a cross between The Lone Ranger and Batman. By day he was a dashingly handsome lady's man named Don Diego, a man highly esteemed by the locals, who, in this instance, were Mexicans.
But at night.... Ah, at night indeed! He would put on his mask, hat and cape, mount his black horse, and become Zorro! the man whose "sword is a flame - to right every wrong". Of course, no one knew this because, like Superman, he kept his identity well hidden, other than carving "Z"s into people and stuff.
Hmmm... like Superman.
His nemesis, the fellow who you see get "Z"ed in the video, was Sargeant Garcia, head of the Mexican military forces.
Hmmm... Sargeant like Pepper
And the show was on TV from about 1957 to 1960 or so, and was a Walt Disney production. And "all of us kids" at the time watched the show faithfully.
And now, when I look back on it, I find it just a little bit strange that the 2 main characters (enemies to each other that they were) had the names Diego and Garcia. Because, as I have mentioned previously, there is an island in the Indian ocean called Diego Garcia, which is controlled by the US Navy, and is used for military communications and other kinds of secret stuff, and nobody much pays attention to it who doesn't have a need to, but still, it's odd that the names Diego and Garcia come together in two places in my mind: the TV show "Zorro!" and the island out in the middle of nowhere where all kinds of secret stuff goes on.
And - gee whiz! - if I didn't know any better, I might be tempted to think that maybe some time traveler from the future may have wanted all of us TV-watching kids in the USA in the 1950s to remember the names Diego and Garcia for some reason, and think of a character who was like Superman, except that it began with a Z, in connection with it.
You know, like in the movie "Back to the Future" where Marty McFly goes back into the 1950s, and meets his mother, (though she was born a long long time ago).
And all of this is by way of saying that when the Monkees did that WAR chant in the movie "Head", also known as the "Ditty Diego Chant" - well - maybe it was like a WARning from the future, by someone who had been there. And of course, since "The Monkees" tells the story of The Beatles after a fashion, then by calling the WAR chant the "Ditty Diego" Chant - the producers of The Monkees may have hoped we'd put 2 and 2 together, and understand about who might have been involved when, where, and why. That's all.
The Monkees - HEAD (WAR!)

Well of course, Disney studios were never one to miss a trick, and so before we leave Zorro, we may want to have a second look at who he represents. The short answer is: I'm not sure. Out of the night, when the full moon is bright, comes a horseman known as Zorro.... One might think perhaps the femi nine side of the holy trinity: the Holy Spirit. When the full moon is bright: Luna/Isis/holy spirit Whose "sword is a flame - to right every wrong" compares to "rightly dividing the word of truth" that Christians call an attribute of the Holy Spirit Zorro, of course, could be a nod toward Zoroaster; a nickname, as it were. Most Westerners don't think much in terms of Zoroaster; he is best known among the Persians. The closest link most Westerners have to Zoroaster would likely would be this: 2001: A Space Odyssey - Opening as he was also known as Zarathustra, and the music for the opening of 2001 is "Thus Spake Zarathustra". Besides, I don't think the Disney folks were asked to stay "on script" too much regarding the religion, so they seem to have just thrown together a bunch of religious imagery: lightning strikes, the full moon, a sword of truth - yeah, that'll work. Here's a representation of Zoroaster you might take a shining to. quotes below come from: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoroaster"Greek Zōroástrēs appears to have arisen from an association of ástra “stars” with the leading zōrós meaning “undiluted.” So he was an "undiluted star". He was "a superstar". "Zoroaster sees the human condition as the mental struggle between aša (truth) and druj (lie)." "The purpose of humankind, like that of all other creation, is to sustain aša." (which is to say: 'Free will'). "Pliny the elder names Zoroaster as the inventor of magic". "...the "inventor" of both magic and astrology. Deriving from that image, and reinforcing it, was a "mass of literature"." "Within the scheme of Greek thinking (which was always on the lookout for hidden significancesand "real" meanings of words) his name was identified at first with star-worshiping (astrothytes "star sacrificer") and, with the Zo-, even as the living star. Later, an even more elaborate mytho-etymology evolved: Zoroaster died by the living (zo-) flux (-ro-) of fire from the star (-astr-) which he himself had invoked, and even, that the stars killed him in revenge for having been restrained by him." "Nimrod is killed by lightning and posthumously deified by the Persians as "Zoroaster, on account of the living (zosan) stream of the star (asteros) being poured upon him." OK, so now, knowing all this, you now have the keys to all of these: ZosoBLOODROCK - D.O.A./EVERY BODY'S NIGHTMARE"Among the named works attributed to "Zoroaster" is a treatise 'On Nature'" In short: "Zoroaster was known as a sage, magician, and miracle-worker". Oh, and uh, Zorro was played by Guy Williams.

In the "Too Many Girls" Monkees clip, why do you suppose that there "just happened to be" a sign on the table saying "judge" on it, knowing all that you know now? I suspect the answer is that the woman represents the feminine side of the trinity, the Holy Spirit, (aka "the Goddess") and Mr. Jones will be "judged" by how well he heeds her prompting. But hey hey, it's just a silly TV show, afterall, and I shouldn't read too much into it probably. I mean, you're probably supposed to say, "Oh yeah! She's a ten!" I must be Greek or something. (I'm not.) Could TV shows be magick?
