I starting looking at songs by Cream and I found an interesting song that was the flip side of the single that had BADGE (the Paul-Faul song that George Harrison co-wrote with Eric Clapton) on it. The song's called WHAT A BRINGDOWN: Dainties in a jam-jar, a parson's colour in the sky. [PLENTY OF JAM JARS by the Ravellers?] Water in a fountain doesn't get me very high. Moby Dick and Albert making out with Captain Bligh. So you know what you know in your head. ["Even though you know what you know. . ." SHE SAID SHE SAID] Will you, won't you, do you, don't you know when a head's dead? What a bringdown! Winter leader Lou is growin' 'amsteads in the North. Betty B's been wearin' daisies since the twenty-fourth. Wears a gunner when there's one more coming forth. And you know what you know in your head. Will you, won't you do you, don't you wanna go to bed? What a bringdown! There's a tea-leaf about in the family, Full of nothin' their fairy tale. There's a tea-leaf a-floatin' now for Rosalie, They'll believe in ding-dong bell. Take a butchers at the dodginesses of old Bill [Campbell?] Aristotle's orchestra are living on the pill. One of them gets very very prickly when he's ill. And you know what you know in your head. Will you, won't you, do you, don't you wanna make more bread? What a bringdown! Listen to this on youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6FFnwp/E7cAt 0:51-0:52 and 1:11-1:12, it sounds very much like John Lennon on GLASS ONION. Wow, Paulumbo! I'd never heard this before, but it pretty much HAS to be about the switch. I mean, it's barely even veiled. BTW, your link didn't work. This one will: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6FFnwplE7cOh, and I also noticed that this was your 111th post, and that it contained a reference to 1:11. I see 11, 1:11, and 11:11 EVERYWHERE. Been happening for about three years. Anybody else?

Yes, all the time, as well as 911 and 12:34. Lots of Cream material to consider apparently. In "Strange Brew" there's this verse: On a boat in the middle of a raging sea, She would make a scene for it all to be Ignored. And wouldnt you be bored? Strange brew -- kill whats inside of you. I immediately think of the "stormy sea" type repetitions at the end of "I Want You/She's So Heavy". "ufo-y looking thing" for Iameye:

It's all Rhyming Slang!
Jam Jar = Car
'Amsteads = Hamstead Heath = Teeth!
Daisies = Boots (Daisy Roots)
Tea-Leaf = Thief.
Take a butchers = Take a look (Butchers Hook)
Now the weirdest one is Aristotle Aristotle is rhyming slang for Bottle which is rhyming slang for Ass or Arse (Bottle and Glass), which normally gets shortened to Aris which almost takes us back to the original word Arse.
A Daisy up the Aris! We can work it out!
Dainties in a car, a roses's colour in the sky. Water in a fountain doesn't get me very high. Moby Dick and Albert making out with Captain Bligh. So you know what you know in your head.
Will you, won't you, do you, don't you know when a head's dead? What a bringdown!

There's a thief about in the family, Full of nothin' their fairy tale. There's a thief a-floatin' now for Rosalie, They'll believe in hell.
Take a look at the dodginesses of old Bill [Campbell?] Ass's orchestra are living on the pill. One of them gets very very prickly when he's ill. And you know what you know in your head. Will you, won't you, do you, don't you wanna make more bread? What a bringdown!

China Doll (Grateful Deaf) (Mis-typed, but I like it! ;D )hear it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX3ll_cCkqgA pistol shot, at five o'clock, the bells of heaven ring, tell me what you done it for, No I won't tell you a thing. Yesterday I begged you before I hit the ground, all I leave behind me is only what I found. If you can abide it, let the hurdy-gurdy play, stranger ones have come by here before they flew away. I will not condemn you nor yet would I deny, I would ask the same of you, but failing, will not die. Take up your china doll, take up your china doll, it's only fractured and just a little nervous from the fall. La-la-la-la-la-la-la. Anything by the Grateful Dead is suspect, imo. Wonder if it was on a Wednesday.

More info on the Harrison/Clapton song, BADGE. I was looking at the Random Notes article of the 4/5/69 ROLLING STONE about BADGE. Harrison played rhythm guitar on it (under the pseudonym L'Angelo Misterioso.) Also, a NEW MUSICAL EXPRESS reporter interviewed Cream member Jack Bruce and he said: "We messed around with it a bit in the studio, speeded up the voices and played it backwards. The lyrics are very interesting if you can fathom them out. They are very dark and devious with hidden meanings but you'd have to ask Eric about that." It might be interesting to compare the album version with a live version, because when George Martin speeded up voices, he was trying to make Faul sound like Paul. Also, if someone can play the album cut backwards, there might be backmasking. One more note on the song. In Harrison's autobiography, I ME MINE, he said of Clapton: "It's funny, now he actually sings in concert at the end of the song 'Where is my badge?'" !

Don't have time today, but the album "Marshmallow Pie" by Spookie Daly Pride seems to have some subtle references in several of their songs... where's EB when you need him? lol I'd almost be willing to bet he has it in his collection. I'll have to get back to that later.

OK, normally this song wouldn't make the cut, but there are some strange things about it. Why would someone go to Liverpool, and "do nothing all the days of my life"? Is this a clue that somebody did exactly that? (Remember the David Frost interview where Paul said he'd like to retire.) And then there's Leonard Nimoy as the chauffeur. Another link to "Star Trek"! Holy Charlie Brill, Batman! So for what it's worth: The Bangles - Going Down To Liverpool "According to Wikipedia, Leonard Nimoy actually directed this video as well as making the cameo. It also said his son Adam Nimoy was a friend of Susanna Hoffs from college."www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWC2-MFwWr8&fmt=6Going Down To Liverpool (K. Rew) Hey now Where you going with that load of nothing in your hand? I said, "hey now - All through this green and pleasant land". I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing All the days of my life All the days of my life Hey there Where you going with that UB40 in your hand *I said, hey there. All through this green and pleasant land I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing All the days of my life All the days of my life. Hey now Where you going with that UB40 in your hand I said hey now All through this green and pleasant land I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing All the days of my life All the days of my life Possibly a jail sentence for 'Life'?* en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UB40"...The [UB40] band members began as friends who knew each other from various colleges and schools across Birmingham. The name "UB40" was selected in reference to a paper form issued by the UK government's Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS) at the time of the band's formation for claiming unemployment benefit. The designation UB40 stood for Unemployment Benefit, Form 40." -------------------------------------------------- Still, the line is similar to the line in "Hey Joe" that asks: "Where are you going with that gun in your hand?", and the song structure is similar as well. Hey Joewww.youtube.com/watch?v=b2qRKy36dL4So are we to pick up on the implicit message: Happiness was a warm gun?

Very interesting, B... I came across something this morning while researching a company stamp for an antique piece (or not) recently acquired from a thrift store... Anyhow, it led me to a site about the evolution of the different eras of jewelery... "Jet" is a type of onyx that was commonly used in MOURNING jewelery in the 19th century. I don't think I ever realized there was such a thing. Well, here's a link to various individuals' take on the song: www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=699 Labrador puppy? I don't think so.

I don't think I ever realized there was such a thing. Well, here's a link to various individuals' take on the song: www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=699 Labrador puppy? I don't think so. Yup. This is where the term JET BLACK comes from, Girl, but I never thought about it like that in terms of the song. Hmmm. Here are some tidbits about jet: MISCELLANY: Tends to feel warm; becomes electrically charged when rubbed with cloth and thus will pick up such things as small bits of paper; flammable, giving an odor like that of burning coal. OTHER NAMES: Black amber - name given in the Middle Ages, apparently because of its becoming electircally charged like amber was then known to react. "Witches amber" - name given to "necklaces of alternating Amber and Jet . . . [worn by] Wiccan High Priesteses (White Witches)" -- (www.luckygemstones.com/jet-jewelry-black mourning-gem.htm) USES: For the most part in mourning jewelry -- e.g., brooches, pendants and beads, commonly faceted; for statuettes, carvings and souvenirs; as the base material for pietra dura; and rarely for such things as carved plaques and rather small vessels of several genre NOTEWORTHY LOCALITIES: Near the coast in the vicinity of Whitby, Yorkshire, England; Languedoc, France; Oviedo (formerly Asturias), Oviedo Province, Spain; El Paso County, Colorado. REMARKS: The term jet is usually indicated to be from Middle English after Anglo-Norman geet, from the Latin gagates, from Greek gagates, for Gagas, a town of Lycia (an ancient region/Roman province on the Aegean Sea, southwest of Asia Minor).Incidentally, Lycia is very close to several GREEK ISLANDS, including LESBOS. During the 1500s, many Rosary beads were made from jet, which was frequently dubbed "black Amber." More: www.cst.cmich.edu/users/dietr1rv/jet.htmAnd this: Jet, known also as “gagate”, is a carbon fossil, compact and very light. Jet, known also as “gagate”, is a carbon fossil, compact and very light. It is a lustrous black stone which has a hardness of 2.5-4 (quite soft) and a specific gravity of 1.30-1.35. This stone was named after the city of Gages in ancient Lykia. Another name of jet is “black amber”. Jet was known in ancient Egypt, where it was used for making mirrors, in Greece and Rome they used it for cutting amulets, bracelets and rings. Even now people believe that jet has magical powers, it protects from nightmares and helps to overcome one’s fears. www.skylineminerals.com/Gagate.html

Thank you for that fine bit of well-rounded & multi-faceted research, PL... ;D
Interesting also, within the same link you provided, "The Pueblo Indians were known for burying Jet with their dead. A famous, exceptionally beautiful and well-made frog carved from Jet and inlaid with Turquoise eyes, was discovered in the Pueblo Bonito in 1896 by Mr. Pepper. It is believed these Indians thought Jet would protect them in the after-life."

I found a song that Paul(?) wrote with his brother in 1974, called NORTON (or variably, NORTON LEAVE IT):
Norton is a mummy's boy [it isn't stretching it to suggest "mummy" might be a dead mother] Norton's very clever Norton's very good at sport In the nicer weather.
Norton is a pretty boy Norton is a sissy Norton's gorra lovely girl, Now isn't that a pity?
Norton is a daddy's boy Norton joined the army He thought they'd make a man of him He must be bloody barmy!
Truck on!
-"22433133 Private Norton reporting for duty, sir!" -"A-Jolly Good, Norton, recommend a commission, Sergeant." -"Sir! About Turn! Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left. . ."
Norton's still a pansy boy Norton's still a pet. And if he gave me half a chance, I'd wring his bleedin' neck, oy!
I love you, Norton. Right on.
DID Paul join the military?

And then there's CRACKERBOX PALACE. Watch the video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=iq7Zg-A5-RwThe lyrics are: While you're a part of Crackerbox Palace, Do what the others all do [at 1:56-2:05, they show a soldier] Or face the fact that Crackerbox Palace May have no other choice than to deport you [at 2:10-2:16, they show a Bobby with a cross on his helmet and a soldier, and at 2:19, they show a skeleton in front of a tombstone.] BTW, Crackers is defined in the DICTIONARY OF THE UNDERWORLD [by Eric Partridge, 1949; 1961] as: ". . . men of all ages who have received head injuries, or such injuries to the cerebral column as to render them at times irresponsible . . . Also, those who have suicidal tendencies."

Paulumbo, the link doesn't work. Here's another: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSmN_dOhvhwHere's a truly bizarre song from The Go Gos: The Whole World Lost Its Headwww.youtube.com/watch?v=mVcMwB4chTUPope's on L.S.D. Muslim girls are getting down In bikinis Nazis selling tupperware Door to door Telepreachers mud-wrestling On the dance floor I read it in the paper I see it on my TV Has the whole world lost its head (Is it just me) Has the whole world lost its head (Is it just me) Has the whole world lost its head You can buy tomatoes That last 500 years Claudia Schiffer's fiancee Made her disappear (?)Drag queens have the navy Tossing in their beds Mary ate her little lamb And punk rock isn't dead I read it in the paper I see it on my TV Has the whole world lost its head (Is it just me) Has the whole world lost its head (Is it just me) Has the whole world lost its head I read it in the paper I see it on my TV Has the whole world lost its head (Is it just me) Has the whole world lost its head (Is it just me) Has the whole world lost its head (Is it just me) Has the whole world lost its head Lost its head Lost its head Lost its head The video is repulsive. I have to think an insider message to somebodies in the music industry. A kind of "We know what you did" thing. Total Information has made a big deal of Paul having been beheaded, in his opinion, as part of a ritual sacrifice. Also the reference to "Mary had a little lamb" in the song may be a wink to Faul's recording of it. Paul McCartney and Wings- Mary had a little lambwww.youtube.com/watch?v=qaZ9s7S26qgAlso worth noting: the Go Gos album this song was on was called: Return to the Valley of The Go-Go'sclearly an allusion to the movie: "Valley of the Dolls" which apparently relates to "A Doll's House" by Ibsen, which relates to the Beatles' White album, according to Total Information and if that weren't enough....[/b] Stuck In My Car The Go Gos www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyYzEmGgRvgSomewhere the sun is shining Somewhere the moon is rising I'm sitting here Somewhere someone is laughing Somewhere something is happening I'm dying hereLet's go Let's go Stuck in my car trying to get to you Stuck in my car nothing I can do Turn the radio up and scream along Stuck in my car stuck in my car Slow motion disaster Wish I could go faster I'm standing still ("They are standing still" - Rev 9)I know the world is spinning But it never brings me any Closer, closer to you Let's go, let's go Stuck in my car trying to get to you Stuck in my car nothing I can do Turn the radio up and scream along Stuck in my car stuck in my car Come on come on Oooh get me out of here Oooh I gotta go I gotta go I gotta go from the album "God Bless the Go Gos" which has many, shall we say, peculiar, titles

"I'm gone! Maybe there's another way to be..."Does anyone know if this is the original video for the song? It sure is remeniscent of the one that Youknowmyname231 (I think) did with the girl saying "Wake Up!" in it. Look at the story that plays out in the video. The person, being a VIP, is taken to be judged ahead of many other "mere mortals", who stare as he passes by. He is clearly mentally unfit in his fantasy of what will take place "if he is caught". I have a sense of deja vu all over again with this one. I'd love to know what you all think about this video. I'd venture it is part of the story of Paul. Bird wings flapping at the end: "Free As A Bird" And when you're done with that, consider this video of Helter Ske- oops! - I mean - Roundabout by Yeswww.youtube.com/watch?v=TS_vJ1W7uKwor even: Yes - I've Seen All Good People www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zZVlo5zBQk"captured for the Queen to use"

I'd venture it represents the story of Paul. I don't remember all of that "live stuff" in the beginning of the "Owner" video, B. I remember it beginning at around the 2:13 mark, like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=goMsbyfPRZMIncidentally, the drummer in that version of Yes was Alan White. Yes, THAT Alan White: Born in Pelton, County Durham, White began learning to play the piano at age six and after switching to drums, played publicly with a local band at 13. Later he worked with a number of bands during the late 1960s, notably the Alan Price Set, before being invited to join Ginger Baker's Airforce with Steve Winwood in 1968. The following year, 1969, White received a call from John Lennon (he thought it was a prankster) asking him to join the Plastic Ono Band for a show that became the hit album, Live Peace in Toronto. He also performed with Lennon on the legendary Imagine album and the single, "Instant Karma". When Lennon introduced White to fellow Beatle alumnus, George Harrison, he was asked to perform on the All Things Must Pass album, including the single, "My Sweet Lord".

It seems that they threw in more snake and spider scenes to fill in the space that had been the 'live scenes' in the video I posted, (P)Denny. It is unfortunate, because the non-music scene which ends with the words: "I'm gone! Maybe there's another way to be..." is missing as well. It may have been removed because it would have been too transparent to insiders who would recognize what this video was about. Clearly (imo) it is a reference to Paul's decision to "bag production" and flee. ("Run Like Hell") This corresponds to many other references to Paul being "on the run". I think the video I posted is invaluable. Thank God that someone posted it at YouTube.
Thanks for pointing out the Alan White links too, P(D)enny La(i)ne . It all fits together, doesn't it.

Uh...guys...Please watch this video: Yes - Owner Of A[glow=Red,2,300] Lonely Heart[/glow]www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELpmmeT69cElyrics: www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Owner-Of-A-Lonely-Heart-lyrics-Yes/5404DDB310B489B84825697300136748"...After my own indecision They confused me so My love said never question your will at all In the end you've got to go Look before you leap And don't you hesitate at all - no no Owner of a lonely heart..." Does anyone know if this is the original video for the song? It sure is remeniscent of the one that Youknowmyname231 (I think) did with the girl saying "Wake Up!" in it. Look at the story that plays out in the video. The person, being a VIP, is taken to be judged ahead of many other "mere mortals", who stare as he passes by. He is clearly mentally unfit in his fantasy of what will take place "if he is caught". I have a sense of deja vu all over again with this one. I'd love to know what you all think about this video. I'd venture it represents the story of Paul. I don't remember all of that "live stuff" in the beginning of the "Owner" video, B. The original uncut video featured the typical video entrance, with the band playing, and then they stopped midstream and segued into the main video where the guy is removed from the crowd 'midstream'. The video was cut and edited for mainstream play on the video channels, and some scenes were removed, like the maggots to the face bit.

Given all the Humpty Dumpty/fall/coming down fast and... clues, I have to think this song may have been inspired by whatever happened. An example of the "young dudes" telling the news, as it were: Jump by Van Halen With Lyricswww.youtube.com/watch?v=KFPjGtxOdIo

Here's another song from the same album. It's one of those lyrics that can be taken at surface value as a song about the ending of a relationship, or one could note the Alan White connection, and dig a little deeper... "CHANGES" "I'm moving through some changes Ill never be the same Something you did touched me There's no one else to blame The love we had has fallen The love we used to share We've given up pretending As if you didn't care Change changing places Root yourself to the ground Capitalize on this good fortune One word can bring you round Changes I look into the mirror I see no happiness All the warmth I gave you Has turned to emptiness The love we had has fallen The love we used to share You've left me here believing In love that wasn't there Change changing places Root yourself to the ground Word to the wise - well you get whats coming One word can bring you round Changes When I look into your eyes and try to find out how There's no way to save it now And everything I feel Changes Keep looking for Changes Changes For some reason you're questioning why I always believe it gets better One difference between you and i Your heart is inside your head One word from you One word from me A clear design on your liberty Who could believe when love has gone How we move on like everyone Only such fools Only such jealous hearts Only through love changes come Change changing places Root yourself to the ground Capitalize on this good fortune One word can bring you round Changes One road to loneliness Its always the same One road to happiness Its calling your name" www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRUmjphVqFkEDIT:
One more interesting connection.Trevor Rabin: "Along with a budding solo career, Rabin began working as a producer and session player. Some of his prominent work included South African vocalist Margaret Singana ("Where Is The Love?") and fellow South African expatriate, Manfred Mann (The Mighty Quinn) and his Earth Band." Klaus Voormann was the bass player for Manfred Mann, and played on the Dylan penned "The Mighty Quinn". Well...not to veer too much off course, but when you post a song called "Changes", I can't help but think about: david bowie - changeswww.youtube.com/watch?v=pl3vxEudif8Oh yeah Mm Still don't know what I was waiting for And my time was running wild A million dead-end streets and Every time I thought I'd got it made It seemed the taste was not so sweet So I turned myself to face me But I've never caught a glimpse Of how the others must see the fakerI'm much too fast to take that test Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Don't want to be a richer man Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Just gonna have to be a different manTime may change me But I can't trace time I watch the ripples change their size But never leave the stream Of warm impermanence. So the days float through my eyes But still the days seem the same And these children that you spit on, As they try to change their worlds, Are immune to your consultations. They're quite aware of what they're going through: Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Dont tell them to grow up and out of it Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Where's your shame? You've left us up to our necks in it! Time may change me But you can't trace time Strange fascination, fascinating me Ah changes are taking the pace I'm going through Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Oh, look out you rock n rollers Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Pretty soon now you're gonna get a little older Time may change me But I can't trace time. I said that time may change me But I cant trace time. --------- which may or may not have to do with PID/PWR, but then, Bowie never did any PID songs, did he?
