Just my opinion, but I think the hype in the media doesn't come close to the reality. Having said that, I am prepared with generator, plenty of gas to run it, food, etc. However I'm thinking we might not even lose power where we are, given the expected track that almost misses NH entirely. By that I mean the eye will miss it, obviously the storm is big in its spread.
NYC is in danger from the water surge perhaps, and it will hit CT at a weak CAT 1 strength and then on to MA, nothing to sneeze at for sure, but not an Andrew or Katrina by far.

Well, looks like I needed the generator after all. First we had a brief half hour or so outage, probably a branch fell on a line somewhere. Got the generator set up to run the essentials (like the computer of course, haha) and then the power popped back on. Then an hour later, a big transformer went BOOM just a few hundred feet away. Now that was a bit scary! No power yet again..

katia means "Pure" pure c.1300, "unmixed," also " absolutely, entirely," from O.Fr. pur (12c.), from L. purus " clean, clear, unmixed, chaste," from PIE base *peu-/*pu- "to purify, cleanse" (cf. L. putus "clear, pure," Skt. pavate "purifies, cleanses," putah "pure," M.Ir. ur "fresh, new," O.H.G. fowen "to sift"). Replaced O.E. hlutor. Meaning "free from moral corruption" is first recorded mid-14c. In reference to bloodlines, attested from late 15c. Pureblood (n.) is recorded from 1882; purebred from 1868.

Hurricane Sandy is a Category 2 as it passes over Caribbean. They say it's heading for the northeast where it'll meet up with arctic air and the jet stream, and create conditions for the perfect storm. Hurricane Sandy Tracker

Hmmm. Looks like they're currently predicting a direct hit on LovelyRita, and then me! My sense is more like New York City, but with some snow here. I'm not hearing HAARP yet, and usually I do when they're steering stuff this way. a bit spooky ...

Akin to "καταιγίς" hurricane. The shield of a deity as described above "goatskin coat", from treating the word as meaning "something grammatically feminine pertaining to goat" (Greek αἰξ (stem αἰγ-) = "goat", + suffix -ίς (stem ίδ-)) The original meaning may have been #1, and Ζευς 'Αιγιοχος = "Zeus who holds the aegis" may have originally meant "Sky/Heaven, who holds the storm". The transition to the meaning "shield" may have come by folk-etymology among a people familiar with draping an animal skin over the left arm as a shield. lol

This is the worst case scenario, 1/3 of the country in a power outage, they postpone or cancel the presidential election, they force marital law, and we'll be taken to Fema Camps. The not quite that bad setting, being without power, and some heavyrain, and it only lasting a short time. If it's just a scare, and we didn't get that bad, then we have enough toilet paper, candles, flashlights/batteries and enough PB and crackers.... So I will say this, take care if you're on the east coast. Hopefully in a few days I'll be able to make sarcastic remarks on the weather forecasting and causing mass panic by the mass media.

I'm hearing HAARP now. It's screaming!looks like it could be pretty nearly a direct hit for moi:www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/10/26/us/hurricane-sandy-map.html?ref=us I'm confident that all those fracking ponds just north of here have all been properly secured, and no doubt they were constructed to the very highest standards, so as to easily handle the 4-6 inches or more of rain we're supposed to get. Yes, I toadily believe that. What could possibly go rong?
